Exiern Christmas Special 2018
Thank you again to Marshall Reeves from Yesterday Bound who has been working really hard for Exiern this holiday season (and he’s not done yet!) as well as Sean Harrington from Spying With Lana as Captioner and Dialogue Speech Balloon Inserter Supreme.
Special thanks to not just Sean but Electric Gecko of Puck and Colin Wells of Normal as well as Scott himself all answered the call in short order when there was a last minute Card Caption Crisis. All people who’ve done a lot for Exiern both in front of and behind the scenes for years now.
So, keeping with the theme of Holiday Special Continuity, we’ve got a follow up to last year’s Doctor Who themed Christmas Special and the fact we made it in time for Christmas (just) while Doctor Who for the first time since it came back in 2005 … is not. Instead, they’re doing New Year’s Day instead. Well, we’re doing New Year’s Day as well, so there! (and see you in a week!)
As for other details, as many Doctor Who references as I could comfortably fit into the top panel (notice anything about where they’ve landed?) and I’m definitely not projecting about the one thing I thought was a bridge too far and still can’t come to terms to about the new Doctor despite all my speeches from last year (see, all the 13th Doctor cosplayers get it! I mean doesn’t that one simple difference look so much better?).
Now as for the other panel … well … Frozen … snow … Christmas … any chance to dunk on Faden, how could we not?
Thought was the only one who didn’t like this Doctor (the only thing regret, is not getting to see the great Bradley Walsh in action 🙁 )
Got oldest sister a Doctor Who graphic novel that had stories from all the previous doctor’s (including the War Doctor), that basically retconned the entire history just to validate the change
for a science-fiction show about an alien with 2 hearts that rutinely changes everything about itself – the gender-bender was due for a while. Of course – that comic relief piece – Curse of the fatal death – did it before…
The outfit – it’s better-looking than the multicolored coat – but I’m anti-fasion – wouldn’t comment on someone’s look from an astetic point if my life depended on it. Just saying that showing legs means she has to invest more time in self-grooming than the guys – life’s not fair…
Considering there had previously been no indications of gender-bending, or even a limitation on regenerations, until the Second Generation, it’s called “Pandering To the Feminists”
Just like even the thought of a female James Bond (even if the ‘actress’ is transgender) is utter claptrap
Apart from the irrational anti-Feminism, anti-adding to canon and anti-logical extrapolation stuff, the fact you go off angrily about trans women with no provocation at all tells us that your actual issue is with anything that isn’t pandering to elitist and entitled allocishet white men.
Psst! You’re very obviously in the wrong place to be sneering about women, cis or trans.
The provocation is changing a well-established character just to be ‘diverse’, and it would be just the same if they tried to make Bond an African-American male (and before you start off on me being racist, it is simply Bond is a white Englishman)
Have nothing against trans anybody, or women, or African-Americans, just adamantly opposed to changing the basic core identity of a character in an unrealistic fashion (and yes, having James Bond suddenly become Jane Bond, or Jimmie Bond from South Philly, is unrealistic)
The barn needs a box with a big red button … 😉
Please, please don’t continue with the dumb “emphasize every other word with boldtalics” thing that super comics do. It ruins the pacing of the dialogue.
And yeah, the past 2 doctors are really weakly portrayed, but that’s the fault of the writers, not the actors.
Actually liked The Grumpy Old Sod Doctor, it was the one they had as the Companion in “The Adventures of Amy Pond, with special guest stars, Mr Amy Pond and The Doctor” couldn’t stand
Even sister (who is a he-yuge! Doctor Fan) didn’t like that version
You mean, the Adventures of Amy & Melody Pond?
Doctor Who (like most good shows actually) is mostly about dynamics between the Doctor and his companions, I thought in Whitaker and her pals they had a good team that was completely ruined by very poor storytelling; Chibnall wrote some good ones in previous seasons though, a pity really he couldn’t step up as a producer.
Gender bending in Dr Who started several seasons ago when the Master regenerated (off screen into Missy) For the record I like the new Doctor and I have been watching Dr Who through all of the previous incarnations starting in 1978 when Dr Who first came to the US.
Master becoming Missy was kinda-sorta hand-waved away in the same way they explained he couldn’t regenerate anymore: the High Council, somehow, removed his ability to regenerate (absolutely do not believe there would be a natural limit to the times a Time Lord {or Lady} could regenerate), so they got around that limitation by giving him a female body (would probably still would have worked, if Master didn’t actually kill Missy)
I seem to be one of the few people who actually like the new Doctor. The last one’s final season was one of the weakest of the new Doctor Who seasons so far (it felt kind of pointless) and the last Christmas special was just weird. There wasn’t a single episode in this season that I didn’t like, let’s see how the New Year special is. It’s not only the female Doctor, who works for me, but the entire team.
