Howdy, New Readers! Thanks for reading Exiern!

Exiern contains mature themes and is best for readers 18+.
It seems to be a miracle that the Grand Luminary Alliance is still standing with this seeming to be an all too common problem with their troops as we’ve seen in the past.
@Shan, I think that shows the skill of the King and the few intelligent officers he has that they have kept things relatively under control despite the apparent intelligence of his general troops.
Query for a brief fan-fic I’m fooling with: Did Typhan-Knee ever got into berserker mode in his early wanderings? I seem to recall he didn’t, but I can’t find a confirming reference.
@Archone, remember the IGC? Inept Guard College? Somebody out there founded an entire training institution that teaches the guards and soldiers to be inept dunder heads! AS for making a large bonfire near the forest, that’s bad for several reasons.
1.) It alerts the local fauna of your location, and they are not likely to be friendly.
2.) Stray sparks could start a wildfire.
3.) Light from the fire will inhibit your vision while improving the vision of any hostile parties that stumble upon your location.
4.) Gathering materials to burn in the fire will, by necessity, cause your to seperate into small groups.
5.) The bonfire itself, if large enough, could also be a direct threat to the guards.
@uhl
1) local fauna are good food source, and good way to keep fit.
2) wildfire will drive away potential enemies while you stay safe in clearing in middle.
3) humans don’t see well at night, a watch fire makes more light, can enhance camp safety!
4) Gathering materials is good exercise and a chance to scout out your surroundings.
5) The bonfire if large enough could also be a direct threat to enemies like witches and wraiths!
Honestly, i don’t get the joke. And the comments thus far haven’t really helped, either, since people are approaching it from different angles and I’m not sure which side is “right”
Like is Glasses supposed to be the dumb one? Or the eternal sufferer in this page? He has proven to be somewhat useless previously, true… But the way the rest of the party responds, they are likewise idiotic, or even moreso.
But if they are idiotic, then that means that Glasses is supposed to be having a good idea, which they are opposed to because they are idiots, which does not fit with Glasses (whom I know has a name, but have forgotten from 4 pages ago) and his previous antics.
I suppose, either way, that Glasses’ reasoning is stupid, but that seems a bit too subtle for a solid joke. But building a fire should be part of making camp. THat’s how you keep warm and cook food. I’ve never set up camp anywhere and not had a fire started before the sun went down… Although, I suppose I don’t have monstrous creatures to worry about, so… maybe it’s different?
Alternatively, the two saying “No” could be the “best guards” which were recruited to the team, while the remaining two (Glasses and Blondie) are -each- one of the Guards which Phi referred to when he said “not […] all the guards [are] the best”
Building a small campfire for warmth and cooking, at a sufficient distance from the forest for fire safety, would be a good idea. Building “a giant bonfire near the forest”, which is what was actually proposed, is not.
Anyone that was a member of the Boy/Girl Scouts know how to set up camp, and these inept Guards are definitely ancestors of the F-Troop(I forget who mentioned them)! I started reading Exiern a few days ago and it has drama and humor that great readings!I’m going to stick with this till the end of the series,or I pass away before it happens, but I think I’ve got a decade or so left for that to happen (I’m not in a big hurry for that, either).
Be a Producer!Your name/title with an optional SFW hyperlink will be posted prominently HERE following the close of the month! You’ll also receive monthly mailings from Exiern’s author, Scott T. Hicken!
Why does it look like the horse in the last panel is the intelligent one? 🙂
The horses in the first panel look more intelligent than those guards, and they’re all facing away from us.
Because of their track record.
Thank you, thank you. I’ll be here all week.

Where did they GET these guys? And were they sent specifically to kill them off? The Reds and Blues are smarter than these guards…
Yes. Build the bonfire under some overhanging branches for shelter in case it rains.
I am the best at outdoor survival.
I think Isabel had the best idea about outdoor survival. Stay indoors.
and they were never seen from again. I mean the campers.
Are those red shirts I see under that armor?
Query for a brief fan-fic I’m fooling with: Did Typhan-Knee ever got into berserker mode in his early wanderings? I seem to recall he didn’t, but I can’t find a confirming reference.
Help, please?

All in all, it’s a really bad idea.

David, while those points may all be true…these are THE GUARDS we’re talking about.
I think they pretty much fail in all five of those departments.
@50srefugee – There is no canon recordings of Typh going berserker/pyro during that time.
Thanks, Scott. I didn’t think so.

Which is why he got two “NO!”s as an answer to his question
