Makes sense to me too, go back and re-read the whole thing. He’s guilty, therefore Olivia sucks at killing Peonie.
Peonie is very skilled at fighting while under mental control spells.

so if i remember correctly it is half songs purity half fighters skill. Purity may not related to current accusing however so
a) Coriander has a plan which is why he silenced two priest and others confirmed they are ready for something and by forcing Teressa to duel he might make her lose focus on what his cronies doing.
b) Coriander though Teressa’s songs would be inferior to his since Teressa is by definiton of church not pure herself.
c) When princess took orb Coriander though if he could choose a more relaible fighter it would get things in his favor.
d) one, two or all of the above which makes sense why Coriander choose Olivia instead of one of his priest if they are preparing something.
Plus he gets a partial victory if either of them is killed.
However, it still bothers me that he could choose someone to fight to the death without their consent.

Peonie is halving the power of her swing by ‘crossing her body’—having the opposite leg forward from her arm. For more power and control she needs to step with her right foot instead of her left.
Silly Green Monkey: um, no, leading with her left leg means she has that extra reach by following through with the right (if she lead with the right, she would be over-extended)
Princess P-cups has had plenty of experience with monologueing villains, just this time she is in a position to shut them up 😀
And who saw that coming? First blood to P-cups (does that mean her sword isn’t North Wind? or that it is fine with kill Olive? o_O )
As a Knight of the Siciety for Creative Anachronism and (prior to that) an enthusiastic Kendoka (black belt, nidan), i can show you how to generate power with either foot leading. Having the sword foot forward actually allows the highest power generation (from counter rotation of the hips–think of a clock winding against the spring). None of that matters, however, in a contest to pierce a glove at your opponent’s chest. This contest requires that the opponents fence, leading with the point. So the only power generation of concern is the power of the thrust. Typically, thrusting power is developed by leading with the sword foot and allowing the momentum of your entire body to provide the necessary power. The most powerful thrust I’ve ever experienced with a fencing weapon was using a technique created in the early 18th century, called the boat thrust or duck thrust. The trick is to lunge at your opponent and seemingly come up short. So, you lunge, landing with your right foot extended as far as you can reach and still maintain stance, but you find that your opponent is still a few inches beyond the reach of your outstretched blade. Now, while your opponent enjoys your “miscalculation,” you roll you knew forward over your planted foot. This drops you to your right knee and left hand. If you execute this maneuver without lowering your weapon, your point will run your opponent through at the sternum. The Scotsman who invented the maneuver claimed that, on the field of battle, he had actually run his rapier blade through two men at once.

Force isn’t everything, especially when neither is wearing any armor. Peonie’s previous attack was with the sword leg forward, and it only resulted in her being tripped. That’s because she over-committed. Using a crossed attack allows her to go for a poke, leaving chance for an extended attack if she hits, but also a quick recoil or defense if she misses.
It looks like Tess is starting to wonder if the fight is a distraction. I’d wager that is what her comment is about.
I suspect rather than just perving boys, our head of church Coriander was creating an army of brainwashed soldiers for a future coup.
This situation has signaled it is time for coup, hence round 1 silence anyone not brainwashed.
Example in real life would be “Lord’s resistance army” lead by Joseph Kony… in this case may involve magical training.
First stage of coup is neutralise or distract all non brainwashed mages.
The dialog including “silence you” is someone smug and quiet knowing his plan is happening while everyone is distracted. He only plans on gloating when everyone else notices his plan’s success.
I dare to hope this will end well.
For everyone but Coriander, that is.
Perhaps I am mistaken, but the orb only has to be pierced, correct? Meaning that neither has to die. You don’t have to do a blade in to the hilt to pierce the thing. And, as we have seen, North Wind has insane control. It can probably trash the globe without damaging the person behind it.
