I don’t think you’ve read the strip in recent years. Typhan-knee still views himself as a gay man, he’s currently being written as a Transman.
The whole reason he split up from Denver was because Denver couldn’t accept that.
I actually got the opposite impression from Denver especially based on this page.

Also thought that Denver left because he both learned the truth about his heritage and that he could be changing any day now. Hence no choice but to leave.
