This is going to be interesting to say the least. I just hope that I do not have to wait another week to find out what happened next.
Sigh… you’d think she’d have seen that coming, wouldn’t you? She’s been working closely with him for months… she must know that he plans for every contingency, and that “attack with magic” is certainly going to be high on the list of threats he’s given thought to…
So, next week we’ll see Theresa with the head of an a!s. Really hate this one-per-week crawl.

Hol-e cow, the new artist is fantastic. (Not saying the previous ones weren’t, but wow!)
Way too much tooth. Has the artist ever seen someone sing? With that mouth shape, the teeth shouldn’t show at all. This makes her look like her teeth are as long as a horse.
Hmm. Maybe THAT’s why he still wears his crown in the shower. Perhaps a defensively enchanted item?
@Sumguy I have to disagree. Whether the teeth show or not depends on the words (if any) and notes being sung as well as the individual singer’s mouth shape.

I didn’t see EXACTLY this coming … but i saw it coming, so to speak.
Yeah, there’s no way this could end in sex.
So what now? She turns into a woman? That’s already happened, she turns into a little girl with no mouth? That would unacceptable for other reasons. She turns into an old bald guy with a lecherous attitude? (named Cliff Hanger) Or she becomes Tiffany’s twin sister?

I forget… when they tried to use magic on Typh, it reflected and made them all women and thus we got Theresa. Do those women reflect magic back, too? Because Theresa and Urtykins might get stuck in an endless loop.
Or would Urtica have prepared for that, too? And did he prepare for me asking that? Well… RUBBER BABY BUGGY BUMPERS! Did you know I was going to say that???
Oh and… no complaints about Shipeng and I’d normally worry about an artist change but I have no reasons to complain. I could, anyway, if you want. I mean, this is the internet so there’s probably a quota… but I think Sumguy has it covered.
Farewell Shipeng, you’ve done a great job but hello to Antipus, it appears you’ll keep up the standard so sad but sweet.

Theresa is a bit of an idiot here. She should already know that most/all of her magic will either fail against or be reflected back by an unbreachable shield. Urtica has Niels and Bohr for protectection, is not stupid, and, as we just saw probably doesn’t need either.
Sigh… Unlike with the previous page, I’m actually here early enough to post this without anyone having already said that:
Even if Teresa didn’t understand from the hydra skin that Urtica probably has a contingency plan for everything, she should have at least expected, that on the same day that he was already planning on facing the head of the church, and several of his lackeys, he would probably not be betting everything on them trying to attack Typh first.
She must have known Urtica wasn’t planning on her protecting him from Coriander’s spellsongs, or any other similar scenario, but had rather made sure he would be protected no matter what.
And now she’s going to turn into a donkey.
Unless, by some miracle, she actually expected this, and planned for it. That would certainly be a twist.

That’s EXACTLY what I thought when I saw this.
@SlugFiller I’ve played Exalted for over a decade. The question isn’t “are you facing a perfect defense?” because while playing Exalted the answer is always “yes”. The question is “how do I breach or bypass that defense?”
I’d say, based on the exclamation of surprise from Terry (“Ahh!”), she actually did not expect it to reflect. Foolish not only because she should know Urtica would be protected, but because Spellsinging in general is being wonky (hence the fact that she is now a woman, since trying to help Tiff….”I have hair! Long, luxurious hair!”…lol). The only angle I can see that Terry has planned is wanting to be affected or harmed by the king somehow (directly or indirectly), for the sake of the Church. Maybe if she shows up with a donkey’s head or something, the rest of the Church will reject royal interference?
Hmm. The spell pantsed him (so to speak) and revealed his a!s. So maybe the reflected spell will pants her and reveal her a!s?
@Joe Botz: Urtica probably did not predict that you would ask that, but I’m sure he predicted *somebody* would, and thus prepared for it. Probably by making sure that nothing could reflect the spells his reflection reflected, but that his reflection could reflect any reflected spells… Or, if he couldn’t do the latter, he just doesn’t use magic offensively himself.
I’m making two possible predictions here.
Possibility #1: the spell was meant to make the victim uncontrollably aroused and desperate to please. Her attempt to make him into her toyboy love slave backfires and she ends up begging to be his sex slave/queen instead of going off to head the church.
Possibility #2: she DID know what was about to happen – and spellsinging is something that can only affect others, not the singer. Which means that she deliberately bounced a buff spell off of him in order to give herself augmented strength and combat ability. “Theresa smash!”
I conclude that this spell is an badonkadonkafier. I support this conclusion on her words before she spellsang, and the angle of the spellsong on the King’s body. The royal towel fell for a reason.
And, BTW, Urtica– nice!Love the pose with music swirling around him. 🙂
And now we have the answer as to why he never takes his crown off, even when showering.

Just attacking a king like Urtica head-on is a sign of stupidity…
In the previous strip Teresa said “Urtica, you’re an A!S. Perhaps it is time you had a more PROMINENT reminder of that” (emphasis mine)
Taking it literally, I fully expect Teresa’s posterior to enlarge in size in the next strip.”
(I’d also like to see variations on the theme, such as “you’re a boob” or a non-reflected “you’re a dick”)

Is it just my interpretation or does Urtica seem concerned about Teresa’s spell reflecting back on her?

Antipus, welcome to the comic. Your art is great.
However, whoever is doing the lettering needs to bump it up a bit. On the webpage, it’s rather miniscule.
Sure attacking him is almost always a bad idea, But she may not have fully adjusted to the biological and hormonal changes she’s undergone. Also it may be her time of the month.

@Lurker: Urtica does sound concerned about Teresa.
Just because he distrusts her and tricked her, doesn’t mean he’s indifferent to her welfare.
@Gallstone, that’s pretty much what I was thinking.
As I see it, if trying to give her the benefit of brains, she either:
A. Is so angry it over-ran her common sense and self preservation.
Or
B. Thought that if she showed up to the Church totally unscathed with his order (or whatever it’s actually called) that it would look like she was okay with being under his thumb. So if she shows up in some sort of state that’s Less than whole it’ll either have the affect of telling the other Churchies she fought it and is therefore loyal to the Church First and/or a way of showing he’s not somebody you want to tangle with.
That’s all hanging on whether or not she understood that there was no way she’d get to have her cake and eat it too… In which case, she really Is that stupid and some of us overestimated her intellect by several Leagues of where she actually is mentally.
On a different note, welcome to the new artist.
Looks great. Reminds me of some of my favorite comic books (“graphic novels” for those so inclined) such as the Amazing Spiderman and some of the earlier X-Men… Though not quite Cat Woman… Not enough shading and contouring to be quite That defined. Not saying it’s not good or Great even, just comparing detail and similarities. No offense is or was meant in the comparison. I love pretty much All the different styles out there short of the ones that try to make regular guys into Arnold Schwarzenegger when he was still body building. That sort of musculature just sort of… [shudders a little creeped out]

[le sigh] He seems to have some issues with his possible wives possibly turning into barnyard animals… Wasn’t his first wife possibly a dragon? Or is that just what some of us were wondering about her/his mistress…
Ah well, either way, none of us is perfect I guess.
I have been around since the beginning, and I will be here for a long time to come. I also hope to see Tiff whoop some butt, very, very soon.
