Swords, Sorcery, And Then Some!
Howdy, New Readers! Thanks for reading Exiern!
Written by Scott T. Hicken with art by Antipus, the comic updates Mondays. Please check out the Archive to enjoy the earlier adventures of Typh and Peonie!
Exiern contains mature themes and is best for readers 18+.
It’s all there in past pages. Check the pages about Typh’s brother for going pyro and when Typh first met Captain Ro, not long after that they discussed training sessions but it had to be late so the crew wouldn’t see as Typh is supposed to be a prisoner.
So yes, it was established earlier that they’d fight. But that was a fight to practice with the hammer. The hammer that hasn’t even made an appearance in this fight scene yet.
The best reading of this I can find so far is that the captain has used Typh’s request as an excuse to act out her own cheesy action movie gratuitous action sequence rather than actually help him practice like he asked. Which doesn’t fit great with her initial reluctance to allow these fights, either?
Reviewing the past pages has really just shifted the exact nature of the “Why are we doing this?” feeling to me. It’s also reminded me of how much I wish webcomics would move filler, guest, and announcement pages to a separate archive after they move off the new page, because they really mess with the flow of an archive crawl.
The Captain clearly has no idea what she’s asking for. A post-Pyro Typh could easily find herself hanging onto a large piece of wrecking floating in the sea among smaller bits of a ship previously known as the Dawn Treader.

Superhero landing! She’s going to do a superhero landing! Wait for it!
Hopefully on the Captain’s thick skull!
Is there a point to this? Only updating once a week makes this feel incredibly drawn out.
I’m sure you guys work hard, but it’s still slow going.
We’re working on it, there will be a major announcement soon about the long term future of the Exiern Universe.
And by soon I mean early September.
Er… why exactly is the captain attacking Typh? Is this supposed to be a training montage?
Also, I’ve been following for years but I have no idea what they mean by “going pyro”. Got a link to an example?
It’s a barbarian thing. Involves going berserk and murder happy.

I added some links back to the pages referenced in this comic.

I can sincerely say that Roh has some of the same concerns, and is trying to give a hint…
