The King should offer to let the snarky lady try to straiten P-Cups out. But first here are directions to the infirmary best of luck and don’t break a leg.

Hmmm … perhaps Teresa’s humming isn’t what we thought it was.

    But it probably is.

With her looking around it could be a spell to discover someone invisible

It looks like Tiff and Peonie are at least aware that something is going on. As for the snooty, ah, lady, I’d say it’s pretty obvious she doesn’t know Teresa’s past!

I’m starting to not doubt the new Queen so much. That noble? in the last panel has sinister written all over her outfit. I mean she even has her very own Igor minion!

That humming must be a counter or barrier spell of some kind.

Panel 3: “Can you smell something foul?”

Oh yeah, Tiff ain’t fooled for a minute, and neither is Princess P-cups

They probably don’t call Terry out on it because, like us, they don’t know WHY she is doing it and being friends they both want to give her the benefit of the doubt, and don’t wan’t to risk accidentally upsetting a precarious situation

I admit, I came from having read the Bad Webcomics Wiki entry on this, and their reaction section. I gave up on this one some time ago, but upon learning it was “under new management,” so to speak, had to see what had changed. With that said…

    …you have my attention.

It’s disgust at the two nobles walking toward them. The prior panel explains the Hmmm as the wedding march. Loosen those butts up people.

@rocketjsquirrel – glad to have you back! I’ve read it too (many times, actually), and the legit critiques have been taken into consideration as I continue the story. Hope you enjoy!

It’s the genre-savvy way to bet.

In a world where magic is known and practiced, you’d think Urtica would have defenses in place.

@Ben – Keep in mind I love Exiern’s stories, old and new, and I don’t practice arguing people’s opinions (because everyone is entitled to them and how they interpret any kind of art).
But Exiern has had a long history of being called – and I’m quoting here – “shallow transgender fanservice” and “shameless whack-fodder that refuses to admit its whack-fodder all while trying to grab your wallet.” I DON’T agree with those, as I’ve always seen Exiern as more than that even before I was involved with it. BUT I do know that this view of the comic has kept opportunities from it, and I keep those accusations in mind as I write – I know Exiern is more than that and I want it make the best of the opportunities Exiern’s story holds.
Not to say that this week I didn’t submit my first script that includes nudity, but I think when we get to that page it will be clear that there is considerable purpose to showing the skin. It’s a scene I’m really looking forward to sharing.

@Ben – Sure thing! Always happy to respond. And I know the answer is a bit long and wordy, I just wanted to make sure my response didn’t come off like I have any issues with critical reviews. There’s always something useful in them, whether I agree or not! 🙂

Beginning to think that Theresa’s humming is not so obviously evil after all. On one hand you can argue that it is a clear sign that she is controlling the king. But on the other as seen in the side story ‘A Woman’s Place’ she is a direct beneficiary of the king’s policies so she may be legit and providing magical protection to a room full of jumpy and snarky foreign dignitaries without letting them know what she can do.

Urtica is not pleased with Lady Snark.
I think Teresa is using magic to help the king.

Also cool to see someone behind the work be active with the readers. I know it can’t always happen with every work, but it makes a sort of personal connection to the comic, in a sense.

Here’s to a long and prosperous tale to unfold.

Oh I think I get it, Urtica isn’t even really here, he’s just an image conjured up by Theresa’s humming… Now where is he and what is he up to?

  24. Archone
    October 22, 2014, 11:55 am | # | Reply

Notice how King Urtica is sighing and expressing both a father’s resigned pride at how his baby girl is growing up, followed by naked antipathy towards the new arrivals on the scene. This is not the behavior of someone being mind controlled. And then Theresa sends Olivia to accompany Tiffany and Peonie… which means that Olivia is probably going to be able to fill them in on a few details (and Teresa likely sent her along for exactly that reason), while also helping to keep an eye on Peonie just in case (Since she DOES tend to get attacked a lot, and they need to confirm how genuine her maturation is).

Remember, the closest we came to seeing Theresa as a bad guy was when she expressed prejudiced views towards northerners (which their trek up north kinda validated; the barbarians were HORRIBLE under Tiffany’s father). After that even Tiffany acknowledged that she herself was being the bad one and Theresa isn’t doing anything wrong.

@ryumon – I think you’re right. They both seem to be expressing similar emotions on every panel they’re both shown, and there’s a certain degree of explicit mirroring tendency when they look at each other. That might be just trying to show marital congruity, but I think him being an illusion is slightly more likely. If so, I’d give better than even odds he’s in on it and controlling what his illusion is saying.

We have it on good authority that their Psalms are not cathy enough to hum, which means Terry is bullshitting for some reason, and we know Tiff and Princess P-cups will investigate (after that deal with Ms Palms)

Tiff knows Theresa is a spell singer, you’d think she’d realize that Terry is sustaining a spell of some sort. What spell is unclear, but obviously something.

Like many have said 1 she the Queen 2 it might well be a healing spell or Anti-poison.

  31. Eric
    October 24, 2014, 4:42 pm | # | Reply

I’m not saying Tiff should attack, the spell could be protective or otherwise, hostility is unnecessary at this point. I’m just thinking Tiff should have realized that straight off – and Terry could have claimed humming psalms because maybe an enemy “doesn’t* know Terry is a spell singer.

However, as Guesticus has said she could be confirming that Terry isn’t *just* humming. Being the suspicious sort she will likely suspect Terry is up to no good, although whether she is or not is far from certain.

I would be dam surprize if Queenie turned out to be evil. I have read the entire comic and have seen no indication she is. I fact besides some “I am better than you moments” she has be very good to Tiff and P-cups.
