Cardis’Das? Where is that? Because it doesn’t sound like “banished to OUTSIDE the nation’s borders.” It sounds more like “we’re keeping you in a special location where we know where you are if we need you again.”
“OH no, Sir Knee, You’d better super special pinky swears not go off your prison reservation to unman anymore child-molesters or we’ll be super-annoyed at you, Mister.”
“I mean it, if we find out you’ve been off killing monstrous genocidal sorceror-wizards when you’re supposed to be confined to your banishment resort, we might be forced to only give you TWO wagons of Gold. Three at most.”
I can’t believe you made Urtica, ONCE AGAIN, succeed fully at making an awesome side step through legal means to avoid any serious repricussions… FOR TIFFANY.
The writing is all based on HIS MALE SELF. He can just walk off the damn prison because HE”S NOT A GUY like that.
Even better, you also snuck in a forced way to make Tiffany to stay female. You crazy son of a gun.
You guys aren’t giving Urtica full credit for the amount of serious repercussions of T’s actions. He also scribed a VERY STRONGLY WORDED LETTER condemning her actions, where it’s in safe keeping in the Royal Archives, just in case it’s needed again.
@Dear God: You must not have been paying attention, since Typhan-Knee has been identifying as male for awhile now and everyone else has started to refer Typhan-Knee as “him” and “he”.
More to the point, he has insisted that his name be pronounced as “Typhan-Knee”.
Yeah, I’m well aware, and have been watching for quite some time. Regardless of whether he identifies as male or female, the writing says entirely that he is male. The words on the paper matter, and the gender he currently is wont matter once ‘she’ is delivered to the province. In fact, they can likely easily identify ‘her’ as just a visitor by some fluke and back to adventure we go. Also keep in mind that Urtica is quite capable of keeping many tabs on many people that should not be able to have tabs kept on them at all. Also many of these people that currently object likely do not spend much time in the capital at all, and regardless of what Tiffany actually does, will likely not recognize the person on some random road in the middle of nowhere as an exile.
Except Typhan-Knee would still identify as male and say so if asked. So it’s not really much of a loophole. Especially since Typhan-Knee would not deny he’s the one the paper is talking about.
I’m still wondering how much of this is a dog-and-pony show until the Alliance and the Church is gone, and then Urtica can tell Tiff what the REAL assignment is.
I wonder if the designed area, might be a remote area of the kingdom where the king suspects trouble, and this banishment is a means to publicly do the whole punishment for crimes thing without being truly serious, and as a means to send Typh somewhere where she will be useful. Disguised mission any one.
I can’t read one pane a week. Unless you’re the Far Side, but each of your panels isn’t a fully-contained joke. I’ll come back in a few months and binge read — if it peaks my interest then I’ll step away for a few months, but otherwise I’ll permanently take it off my list. At this rate, in a full year we might only end up with about 40 panels, what with intro panels, etc., and I can’t wait five years for a simple story.
This is a bit like some of the Roman Banishment.. No We are not letting you go we are sending you to England Enjoy the Rain… More like a Personal Penal Colony. This way Urtica could argue her case…We Just had a war that diminished are Army and she the Sister/Brother to a Barbarian King, And you want us to Kill her, or worse Imprison her? … Opposition be like well are you going Banish her, that makes us look weak! Urtica be like “Right now we are weak but if we banish her to that Scary Place as say a commander she die in battle” Opposition “what place ?” “Cardis Das….” Opposition ” We thought you liked her! Wow that’s Cold! She be Lucky if all she does is Die!” Urtica to Typh” I am sending to the land of your Dreams! You be very Happy there! Lots of Demons Undead and Abominations! Have Fun !”
@Jonathan d wint: You’re assuming a lot there. We don’t know anything about Cardis’Da. We don’t know if it’s good or bad.
Also, Urtica has been referring to Typhan-Knee as “he” and “him”, ever since Typhan-Knee insisted. He’d probably do so in any council meeting, especially since he bothered to do so on the royal decree that’s being read.
This curse has a way of screwing with people, though. It won’t be to long before this “my pronouns are he and him.” thing bites Typh on the decidedly feminine behind, methinks… well… unless the one-frame-a-week pace makes it take long.
Except it doesn’t and it hasn’t. It’s been days since Typhan-Knee asked for that. The only way the curse has screwed with him is with what clothes he wears and there’s still ways around that going by his current clothes which aren’t all that girly.
Not to mention it does and has. It’s turned her into Dainty Tiffany, for example. There’s usually a reason for it (in that case, it was Typhan’s impression of what it meant to be a woman). That seemed to happen all of a sudden… when she started getting too close to accepting herself as a woman, I think. But now she’s straying the other way. I also don’t think ‘days’ matter. It took months before the change I mentioned above happened. It could be a more arcing thing.
It could very well be a route toward breaking the curse. Her grandmother told her to figure out who she was, prompting her.. well… him to ask others to call her ‘him’ and to properly pronounce Typhan.
Then again, I might be wishfully thinking. I preferred Typhan-knee as Tiffany. I was always rooting for her to figure out women weren’t the useless, dainty things he thought they were and that he could be happy that way. I could keep tuning in for that. I’m not so sure how interesting it is to be in a pronoun swap rather than a gender swap story… but that may be why I am a reader and not the writer.
The metagamer in me figures that breaking the curse is very much the end of the story. As interesting as that is, the comic is about burly barbarian dealing with gender swap issues. Once that’s done, there could be other stories to tell but THIS comic wouldn’t be the one that tells them… even if we still call it Exiern. I’d tune in to see Princess Peonie ‘become a ruler as capable but very, very different from her father’ arc – taking Teresa’s warning to heart not to be a scheming s!!t about it.. with Northwind providing some interesting elements to tat tale, perhaps?
Be a Producer!Your name/title with an optional SFW hyperlink will be posted prominently HERE following the close of the month! You’ll also receive monthly mailings from Exiern’s author, Scott T. Hicken!
Tiff, I miss ya, and I love ya still
“Begin as you mean to proceed…”
I have to say that this one-panel-per-week pace could – i won’t say “has” or “is” {yet} but it could kill my interest.
Cardis’Das? Where is that? Because it doesn’t sound like “banished to OUTSIDE the nation’s borders.” It sounds more like “we’re keeping you in a special location where we know where you are if we need you again.”
Yeah, sounds like it’s what they call the High Security Royalty prison
So, they are officially referring to Typh as being male then
Good to see his snark’s back.
“OH no, Sir Knee, You’d better super special pinky swears not go off your prison reservation to unman anymore child-molesters or we’ll be super-annoyed at you, Mister.”

@Fairportfan
I hate to admit it but… I am there with you.
@Guesticus: They have been for awhile. Either way, i’m glad to see Typhan-Knee again, i’ve missed him.

See? Justice is done!

@Dear God: Here’s the panel in question.

We also haven’t heard the whole document.

Yeah this pace is glacial enough that I already took exiern off my bookmarks.

Ironic enough all she needs to rip his dick off is to kiss him 😛
@Krahazik: That will probably be made clear once we see who goes with Typhan-Knee on his journey.

Josh: they are also not manly either

@Josh fully admit I am hypothesizing.
