I think that Tiffany’s changed a lot. As I said yesterday, she’s been slowly revising her world view as she sees what it’s like from the other side. In our world, a person of Tiffany’s age has the luxury of working out who they are but in the world that she’s in I suspect people tend to work things out earlier. That means that Tiffany’s had to revise her view of the world and that’s not a painless procedure. Hopefully, given the reason why she was crying at the Ball, she may have revised her feelings about what women are meant to be like.
This could get violent, very fast. Peonie is touching on something that could easily be more sensitive to Tiff that she can fathom… This is pyro rage material this is.
Some kind of enlightenment enchantment might be what Faden hit him with? Maybe he expected it to turn him into a worm to teach him humility or some such thing, but instead, the female form was seen as the lesser thing to become. Whatever it is, it was overpowered so it could easily have done much more than the spell would do with regular power.
Would seem strange that it’d make him something he idealised or desired because for a more orthodox/typical barbarian, that could have been REALLY bad for Faden.
Francisco, I think you might be putting too much into this. I just think Peonie is saying Tiff was gay the whole time. I’m not trying to dowplay anything about the way Tiff and her worldview’s changed, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with homosexuality, but from a Barbarian/middle-age standpoint, it’s not a good thing, so Tiff has probably surpressed the urge while she was still male, maybe not even realised that’s what she was.
So I think Peonie is just telling Tiff to come out of the closet.

I think a lot Happened in that Fight we still do not know. But know offence to Gays but Male Tiff was very Gayish Looking for a Barbarian. I mean They showed other males that wear manly but but tiff well he looked girly. On a different note: gay and transsexual are totally orthogonal things. Totally!. Being (male) gay means finding males attractive. Being (mtf) transsexual means not accepting oneself as a male.
Indeed, if you have hated your body parts for half of your life, then change gender, it’s quite common that you are then rather looking for same-sex partners: why would you crave in your loved ones what you hated half of your life in yourself?
The usual reaction of outsiders is then “but you could have had this in the first place!”. But it’s not about what one can have, but who one is.
Being in harmony with both sides like Tereisias is not likely a gift given to many, and the price of passing makes it hard to know.
Everyone should remember that Typh had mother issues, and probably felt “dirty” by having a “weak” southerner as a mother. (She didn’t adapt well to life in the North, remember?) That and the “foreigner purge” would probably put any “bear tribe” barbarian off from the South, especially Typh. We really don’t know what the “fight” was about either. It could simply have been Ravener Bear being an a!s by thinking his son wasn’t “man” enough because he hadn’t yet RAPED, pillaged and burned.

I think Tiffany just had more empathy than your usual barbarian. After growing up seeing what his (at the time) mother was like, he didn’t want to put anyone else through it — I’m sure that at least once in his life he came across his mother crying behind the house somewhere and she told him that it was nothing, to go play. I think his main modus operandi was to not follow in his father’s footsteps and take a wife in that manner. Not that he’s become a she, she doesn’t want to be “gay” (spiritually) and have sex with a man, and sex with a woman is equally “gay” (physically).
Tiffany thought that women were scum, worth almost nothing, right? Would you want to have sex with worthless scum? No? That doesn’t necessarily imply that Tiffany secretly wanted to have sex with men, though.
Reading what’s here, in the comments section and the chat, has given me a new theory:
I think there’s a reason why the unicorn likes her — he’s an honourable person who’s shy about sex. Yes, s/he didn’t seem to be that interested in the princess when s/he rescued her but he was concerned that they got out of his fortress without death and destruction. I think there’s a reason why she and Denver are a couple. I suspect that Denver makes up for his lack of an ability to date by throwing himself into his books and that, similarly, Tiffany makes up for lack of a date by throwing herself into fighting.
It’s clear that Denver and Teresa have been seeing one another. It was during that time that Tiffany went to the extremes of violence (either meek or outright fighter). It’s only when Denver has shown an interest in Tiffany that she’s given the appropriate level of effort in her fighting.
In short I think that Tiffany has always wanted a relationship and doesn’t feel that she has the social skills to do it. In her own way she’s just as geeky as Denver is. The reaction she had at the weapons store could be said to support this theory.
I like your theories, they are not bad at all, and do explain a lot of stuff, and I can accept both if they turn out to be the case 🙂 However, what Peonie is INSINUATING, as I see it, is still that Tiff was always gay, wether that is actually the case or not. While a lot of the other theories all have a degree of plausability, I think the theorie that Tiff has always been interested in men fits best. Peonie was thinking about how much Faden’s curse had really affected Tiff, so presumably she’s hinting at something we thought was a result of the curse. Certainly, Tiff has complained about the feminine body, but never about the attraction to men (the closest would be the reaction to Denver’s kiss)

I read it when it was beginning back in the day and was disspointed a little with how it seemed only gag-focused(and censored alot,more then most manga even…) so i dropped it.
But recently i found a forum with this comic among them as topic so i picked it up again, and i have no regrets!! 🙂
Read the entire archive in a afternoon, and it was great, only pity u have so much commercials on this site, really slows down the loading speed of he pages.
Also, might i suggest u run a spellingcheck trough the pages? couse i saw alot of misspelled words troughout the series, and if someone like me who comes from a country where english is not the main language can find the faults easy, then it must be easy for english ppl as well.
Anyway, keep up the good work!(and lower the ads on the site!! 😉 )
I just thought of something. What if Tiff was born female, somehow magicked into being male, maybe by (or at the behest of) the protective mother person, possible to protect her from a bigoted father.
I think that would be the most logical because it would mean Faden’s *white* magic spell returned Tiff to her true form.
Did seriously NOBODY take into account that Tiff might just be asexual, so always was a virgin? Not aromantic, obviously, but that’s not the same thing.

I did think of that myself but I rejected the theory because Harsh Memories and The Night (the strip before the kiss and the kiss) suggest otherwise. Tiffany was blushing as well so it’s likely that her feelings for Denver are more than sisterly.

I like to pride myself on my spelling and grammar however. Hopefully you won’t find too many errors as of the last two years or so (though I know there are some).
One thing to consider is Tiff reactions first to Sister Teresa – aka, Brother Thomas way over top reaction from Tff , All threw the comic Tiffs none a(no other words for it,) None Hater even with women, Tiff was open minded Hero even with her belief that women wear scum she felt that you had to show them kindness. But with Sister Teresa – aka, Brother Thomas it was clear she was Homophobic and a Gay basher, But wear would Tiff Learn that behavior? Were Would Tiff experience or see it? Yes her dear DAD but who did she see it directed at? Some how I do not think it was Wyll-line but it would be a surprising twist. No I am betting Tiff learned this from being Dads Target And was Angry Sister Teresa was so at Peace and Happy about the change so openly. Maybe just a bit Envious. Or a Lot Envious.

Since everyone is throwing out theories I’ll stick with my original thoughts, I think Typh is transgender. At her age she is just coming out of the confusion of who she is and hard into the denial phase. Around this time and earlier some transgender people would hate how they feel, maybe even hate themselves for feeling the way they do. They may try to do manly things to prove, to themselves not others, that they are normal. they get into rough sports, join the army, go face down all powerful wizards to save a princess…
They may see other transgender people and swear they are not one of those “Freaks”. They don’t want to be one of them, they want to be normal. Someone like Tresa is much older and has come to terms with who they are but to Typh she is a ‘freak’ and, although she may hate it passionately, how she feels inside. I think Typh is struggling with how she feels and what she ‘knows’ to be wrong.
If my theory is correct the princess pulling her ‘out of the closet’ might not be such a good idea! It sure isn’t going to be a sudden cure all for the situation.

If my theory is correct the princess pulling her ‘out of the closet’ might not be such a good idea! It sure isn’t going to be a sudden cure all for the situation.

As for Tiff, i think she just was a virgin before the change and that has’t changed when she got turned.
After all, rescuing princesses and killing evil wizards does’t really give u much time for some T&A..
