If the princess is kidnapped no telling if the captors took advantage of her.
This would decrease her desirability for marriage.
Having her rescuer marry her solves several problems including the rescuer taking advantage of her.
Also.. having adventurers in the royal lineage might reverse genetic degradation.
(Literally new blood in the bloodline.)
Too bad Typh can’t contribute right now… unless there are princes we haven’t met yet.
Maybe he wanted someone to marry her that he knew that would be able to protect her from being kidnapped again.

I think I’m with Norman728 here. I don’t remember anything having been mentioned about Peonie’s Mom since the start of this. Can’t wait ’til Typh figures this one out…
I wonder how “Mace” is going to survive without a head or some other vital body part.
I have to support Norman728 here and say that the king may have prepared in advance for this situation. If Peonie’s rescuer turned out to be a woman, it would be only natural that he would wish to fill the currently empty “queen” position on the throne.
It’s not like its a legal binding agreement. Right? Right??? Hmm, or maybe his word is the law.
Queen Typhan-Knee seems quite plausible. He’s already got her to babysit their daughter. And they share the same sense of humour. She just has to get used to life at the court before the king can make his move.
