So those 3 finally get names

So Neils and Tiff are indeed related, and Neils owes a debt to Melan-Knee. The plot thickens.

The last one is named Kill kiss – Virgin 🙂

So I’m assuming that Neils is Tiff’s uncle? Considering that tiff’s mom was murdered by the same people as Neil’s sister. NO ages given leaves it as an open possibility.

And the second one is named Rawhide.

Those 2 still haven’t realised just how dangerous it is to be provoking the enraged armoured Niels 😀

So…was Neils’ mother called “Marie” by any chance?

@ Grim Ghost: I don’t think so. Neils’ sister was named Irene, whereas Typhan and Melan’s birth mother was named Gillian. Unless Raviner-Behr renamed her after he enslaved her, I don’t think they’re the same person.

The irony, of two old barbarians trying to nip impending violence in the bud… Either they just want a peaceful retirement, or they don’t have much confidence in their leader’s chances against an irate Neils.

And now… you will all get the sense of the lengths I will go to throw out a red herring.

Niels and Tiffany aren’t related except very tangentially (their families having the same home town does lend to SOME relations after a while).

And on top of that, way back when I said someone’s theory was EXACTLY right, I was not lying. The answer was 4) Just a coincidence. 😀

It finally occurred to me – these two men are grey-beards. Older members of the tribe, pretty much retired from hunting and fighting. Their job is to remember the history of the tribe, and to critique the behavior of the younger members, thus ensuring continuity. They’re not provoking Neils – they’re giving him a history lesson, one he desperately needs. Neils might kill them, anyway, if he’s angry enough, but he’d be doing them, and the tribe, a great disservice, not to mention dishonoring himself.

Called it! I called it! You can forget guesses 1 through 3…and forget that I said I didn’t think 4 was accurate…That I was just covering my bases. I called it…:) At least I think I did. That sounds like something I think I did. But I could be wrong. 😉 You see, I like to cover my bases…hehehe

BTW…good red herring. You got us good. 😉 And I like the way those old two guys are acting. Obviously, in this tribe, the old folks are given respect. They expect him to act accordingly, because that is how they’ve been treated, and the fact that they expect him to, has so far kept him from blowing up simply because he’s angry. I bet he will now hold together long enough to find out what happened…which could just mean that Mel is going to live after all…

Wait, Niels and Tiff’s families come from the same town? But Tiff’s mother is not Niels’ sister? Does that just mean they are cousins instead of Uncle/Niece?

Considering they are from the same town, SOME form of cousin (either distant or close) is likely. Considering his “gotcha” I would say a distant cousin, not much closer than an average kinship in an average small town. Most probably something like “His mother’s sister’s daughter’s girl married her father’s mother’s brother’s boy” if even that close. Very likely add in at least one more generational step up and back down again. There was a time in small towns when you were either “from town” or “not from town.” If you were “from town” you were family. Literally. If you weren’t, you weren’t. Period. This I think is the general idea of Exiern’s small towns.

Note that in those days, being from the town didn’t really grant you special treatment. Well, except for the fact that you didn’t cheat townsfolk by jumping prices, or send the street urchins to pick their pockets, or whatever you did to the visitors to bring more coin into the town. It basically meant that you didn’t cheat townsfolk, while you robbed visitors blind. 🙂

Why should he kill them? For the “Young Bull “remark? It seeems that Neils was a bit annoyed with them when they were talking about him but most people wouldn´t contemplate killin someone for that especially when they backed down. He´s wouldn´t be King Urtica´s bodguard if he would lose his temper easily. Ok it´s a very sensitive topic but these two old men haven´t done anything to him or his sister and are actually helpful.

He didn´t even kill Wyll-Lyne when he first saw him when he thought he was his sister´s killer.
