So when he becomes she, Melanie will have no soul-searching about dyeing her hair yet again. Peonie is brunette, and Tiff is blond, so Melanie will need to be a redhead to complete the set.
Or maybe he already IS the red-headed step child and dyed his hair to blend in…;)

What kind of barbarians have hair coloring mastery? Look at his beard and his eyebrows, they’re perfectly colored. (I suppose this isn’t out character for a tribe with a ruling class whose names are Typhan-Knee and Melan-Knee.) Still, is this why the king wants to establish peace with the northern barbarians? To trade dye technology with them?

I’m starting to believe that Melan nee was framed by someone else to discredit and take over in a very bloody coup. Probably by the king himself so that Typhan would kill or pass the curse and she’ll be the new chieftain and the king can marry her and the North and the Alliance will be at peace.
Definitely not the sharpest tool in the shed…clearly Tiff got the brains in that family tree.
