Well… We do have Denver… I wonder if his sister Alicia simply had a name.

For that matter, I wonder what this page is suggesting. I understood that the dragons burned the home down and left their young, but this now suggests that they simply left their young with living human parents and the burning of the home was only done by the father… but then the decay is why the dragon young need to be fostered…

Very confused. From what I’m reading, hatchlings are normally raised by the parents, but because of it they are put with foster parents (in case the parents turn on them like this?) and the foster parents are supposed to live maybe knowing they’re raising dragon young or maybe their own children are somehow replaced with them. But when Denver’s parents were turned, Denver’s father managed to get to his foster home and quickly burn it down before he was chased away.

Note the title of the page – I think the dragon names are meant to be homages to the B-movie monsters we know and cringe at.

After all, this is Exiern – let’s not take it _too_ seriously…

While the writing “talent” is not quite as frequent with the shout-outs and humor as Drow was, he reserves the right to use them at any time and without notice.

    Thank you for your understanding.

Interesting side-story; I had initially planned for EVERY dragon to have an ersatzed name from old Japanese mega-monster movies, but

    (A) I still hadn’t decided how many dragons would be introduced and

    (B) really didn’t want to have to resort to Power Rangers episodes to find enough names.

You can see the remnants of the idea in Denver’s father and mother, but won’t see it too many other times.

    I don’t know if there’s ever been official confirmation, but I always assumed that Denver himself was named as an homage to this;

I’m beginning to wonder if Chemiclord, using his prerogative as author, has changed the nature of Dragons here. This is very different than we were led to believe before. Of course most of what we knew before was conjecture, what we have now is one of the elders educating a hatchling. Not to say they would never lie to their young, but I tend to believe, um, what is her name? Frohnknsteen? (Anyone remember Frankenstein vs Godzilla?)

@chemiclord, there’s a bajillion Japanese b-movie monsters that don’t get you into power rangers. A few other shows to use as sources:
    Gamera
    Kamen Rider
    Ultraman
    Super Sentai
    Guyver

But if you don’t like the power rangers you might want to stay away from Super Sentai. =)

oh, and while not quite as well known, Destroyah is the only enemy to ever actually kill Godzilla, King Ghidorah aka Monster X is pretty much rated as his top enemy, Biolante was one of the more unique ones and is a bastard child of Space Godzilla and Mothra, Anguillos is big G’s most common ally and earliest foe (also likely to be the dead kaiju in the leaked trailer for next year’s movie), the extremely unpopular US Godzilla by sony is often referred to by Godzilla fans as “Gino” for “Godzilla in name only”, but Hedra is probably the best fit for one of his enemies given the plotline since Hedra’s a big pollution monster.

Well, we don´t know much about dragons. There could be a mistake or retcon in there though.
The one sidebar about Exiern´s cosmology said that dragons were created to keep out he Authorities. Ok, probably they were supposed to keep out the Beyonders, too. The decay, well could be. It was never mentioned before but it´s possible that it was part of the setting since the beginning. The gods are called Travelers after all. Sounds like the guys were traveling around quite a bit. 🙂

And well, they sound just like the kind of guys who would have abandoned something that bored them. Their treatment of the nymphs and demons sounded rather dickish.

The stuff about dragons being tied to the land wasn´t mentioned but well, it´s not like the sources we had till this point are all knowing and i assume the dragons like to keep their secrets. And most of what we know is a conjecture by Tiffany. Being tied to the land sounds reasonable for a guardian creature. Perhaps it was intended as some kind of surveillance system. Something like ” I sense an intruder entering the land.”

But it´s a bit weird that the dragon didn´t mention the Authoriities at all. That the dragons were created as guardians against them was established in the sidebar. I wonder how powerful the demons must be if they were able to keep out the Authorities. Perhaps they were tied to the land, too and it was also meant as some kind of home turf advantage, so the demons could stop something that rolled over the Travelers.

The dragons have no real concern for the Authorities. The Beyonders were created to handle the Authorities, and the dragons created to the fight the Beyonders after the Beyonders rebelled.

It was a bit of a horrible oversight on the Travelers’ part really. Because the Dragons simply let the Authorities through… because… well… the Authorities aren’t Beyonders. Why should the dragons fight them?

(Am I trolling or not? You decide!)

The Decay… is something else entirely. This is in many ways, foreshadowing for the next story arc after The Wild North is concluded. I like to do that in my storytelling style; putting pieces in play for the next story within the one before.

The dragons’ reaction to the authorities is kind of like the guards where they imprisoned Fayden. Very similar in fact.

    @Chemiclord:
Uh eh, well, the sidebar that explained the whole thing years ago told a bit of a different story.

Quote:”After the war the Travelers created the races of man to act as there new servants and the race of dragon as the new guardians. And again things were good for a time. Unfortunately the dragons proved to be inferior guardians and the Authorities were able to breach into the realm of Exiern (Some say the dragons let the Authorities through as a plot to take over the world although they never say this in front of a dragon.) ” (Quote ends)

Seems that you are trolling us. 😉 Or simply misremembered some stuff, that was written years ago by another author. Happens. I´ve got a pretty extensive setting for my P&P RPG. I write the plot and when we play some player remembers that it was different years ago. And I wrote the whole thing myself..sigh.

@Harkness @Chemiclord Nope (Some say the dragons) at the End means it was all conjecture as Written from a scholar of the world of Exiern. The Authorities got through Dragons did not stop em must be treason logic. The other way to look at it is they(Dragons) Looked at the Letter of the Law of there Orders. I mean they a sentient creatures and the knew Authorities meant harm to there creators and CHOSE to do nothing. To Let them DO harm. Thats still betrayal even if they Were Following Orders to the Letter. But that means the Lore still correct. Dragon can argue its nether a trator nor coward just a opportunist but that IS WHAT Betrayal is. In there defence Perhaps they could not stop the Authority or perhaps the Gods wear Scum and mistreated them I.E.”Hey Thor pass your Daddy Odin anther Dragon Steak! I like the Baby Dragon Veil YUM!”
But even so they ARE Still traytors so both Author statements are true.

Like I said “They CHOSE To let the Authorities Capture there Creators and GodNap them” Ether so the could be free of Evil Gods ,or so they no longer had to take orders from Kind creators or because they chickened out. But Still be BETRAYAL and not there finest hour. And the above 2 statements both being accurate and happening that way ,(I.E. they do not contradict.) So since it had no relevance to Denver I could see there Leader skipping it.

Also it could be the Great Wyrm Lying. The Decay might be The Decay to Her but it might be free will. Denver Daddy and Mom might not wanted to Live as Dragons and CHOSE Human Lives. Ether Because they did not want to be part of the collective, or like said earlier hated they Leaders Betrayal of there gods. And Frohnknsteen while telling the truth from her point of Veiw the absolute truth, would still of hunted down Denver father for choosing a Life Denver would chose him self.
And that means the house Burned down was his parents and They were hidden in human form. I.E. Not cuckooes after ..

Basically we do not have his parents Side they might even call them selves there movement (The Decay) as in the end of Order. Not necessary that the (The Decay) is a Evil order and it might not even be what they call themselves. But if they wear Rogue from the Group mind and wanted Independent Free Lives from the Collective (The Decay) would be a good Name for it. The Insanity that would forced Frohnknsteen to Kill Denver might of been,”OH, NO He not PART of the COLLECTIVE KILL IT! ” Again this is all conjecture , We just do not know enough , And Chemiclord proven to be sneaky enough to mislead us to who good whose evil.

Of course to be clear Chemiclord’s (The Decay) might be straight up EVIL.
