Are the bottom three panels out of order? Surely the kidney punch bottom left, which makes the mingalow bend over, should come before the uppercut (bottom but one right)? Otherwise the head is out of range.
@Fairportfan – oh, yeah… Tiff’s not stupid. She knows what Denver is, and it doesn’t take a genius to work out where his sudden ability is coming from.
People shortening the mingalow to Ming reminded me of Mink. And now I can’t get the image of Tadpole dressed like Mink out of my head. Damn you, internet, DAMN YOUUUUUU!!!
More like Tiff’s wondering when Tadople develops claws, tail, teeth, and a marked disdain for ‘lower life forms’, like his sister did. Wings seem to come much later.
@Quartz perhaps. Usually the punch to the gut goes before the uppercut to the chin since it bring the chin down to where the uppercut can be effective.
Blunt force in a padded mitten isn’t going to kill that thing. Let’s hope Tiff and Niels pull themselves together long enough to slice it into little bits and then bind the parts with rope so they can’t squirm back together again.
Note that Denver’s feet are off the ground in panel 4. He jumped. That’s why the head was in range. I think he looks more like Ryu than Ken.
Also note that he’s ambidextrous.
Also note that Tiff was clever enough to take a swipe at Mingie’s face in panel 1, which probably kept it from chomping her right away. Maraw made the mistake of not counter-attacking when he got grabbed.
Just noticed: Mingie has a red tongue, even though its blood is green.
Also, it has a tail. It is a corrupted Hanzalo, and other Hanzalo don’t have tails. Maybe the corruption process made it grow one, or maybe the other Hanzalo hid theirs.
to note: the stomach hit should probably come before the uppercut. Generally you want your feet planted to maximize the force delivered. You’re going to generate a lot more resistance from the ground than from your momentum; I’ll let that one pass with he’s a dragon and it’s cooler. Finally, elbow down & shoulders level on the stomach punch, unless you’re throwing a hook you’re going to generate better force with the elbow down (and then you’re flank isn’t open… perhaps not a big deal vs a larger opponent)

If Denver starts displaying a taste for human flesh, Tiffan-Knee will have to kill him. Considering what a hard time she has killing the Mingalow while Denver is solidly kicking its butt, that is going to be a tough job.
@Gallstone yes a Endless Immortal Life of near God like Power, Super Intelligence and the Discovery that sister still Lives. ..Yes It must suck…. His cursed Fate….
Looks like Denver has grown a pair … of wings. And I want gloves and boots that are sledgehammer-proof too.
Now a fight is all nice and carthatic. It might have been funnier if he had just walked and stared up and to the Mingalow, and the Mingalow would have taken to heels.
He’ll have a harder time explaining this in a funny way, like the magic fire extinguishing.
erejnion: not sure who/what ‘Mink’ is (unless you mean Tad dressing in a mink-fur coat), but was thinking of “Ming the Merciless” from the old Flash Gordan serials (and the Queen movie from the 80’s)
yep…I think we wont have to wait too long to see tadpole turn dragon…and also somehow control it, cuz it would’nt be Exiern anymore if he wen’t up n and left.
Or maybe he’s gonna channel his draconic powers into flaming fists and kicks? That would be awesomely ridiculous.
Now what is Tiff supposed to do? She can’t shrug this off inconspicuously, but she does not want Denver to think too much about it. The best case scenario would be something like
“What was that?”
“Don’t want to talk about it.”
“Fine with me.”
Too bad there are other people not likely to be fine with that.
Oh, I’m taking for granted that the race memory is correct about the respective strengths.
@David Tiffs is screwed. She never liked lying to begin with and she sucks at it. Time to Confess. The Not Dead sister the hole thing. Dever needs to know, for one thing if there any hope that he can switch back and forth he needs to know NOW! And a lot people King Priests , now maybe Neil already know and Denver not knowing is plain dangerouse to him and every one else. Basically Tiff was absolutely Wrong doing this and keeping it secret.Telling him his sisters dead. Really is her scummiest moment, But with good intentions, (and we all know what road is Paved with those) Think of it this way your Doctor calls and you friend picks up the phone, he tells your friend that you are Dying of a Disease and have 2 years to live. Your Friend Lies to you about it says Wrong number and keeps it a secret for the next 18 months(or how ever long its been)…Goon intentions or no that’s screwed up. Well I would be pissed!
Denver is not going to die. Dragons are highly intelligent, so all his learning is not going away either.
Tiff did not claim that his sister died, just that it was too late to save her. Now you could say that is akin to saying under oath that the NSA has no direct access to Google/Facebook servers when the _FBI_ has direct access and has to answer to NSA requests: it is not factually a falsehood but crafted with the intention of creating a wrong impression.
Did it create a wrong impression? Denver might already know what’s up by now. He is studying all the time, and one of the priests he confronted when snuffing out magic fire said something like “wait, I’ve read about this” and got scared before being silenced. So immunity to magic fire is discussed in literature.
And of course, Denver by now heared the race memory.
Denver is wearing a human frame, and a human frame has physical limitations. So it would appear that he delivers his punches not by mere mechanical means. Which would also explain why his clothes are holding up reasonably well under his barrage. Of course, the aura might not be focused similarly on the receiving end: we knew that his sister was prone to the Exiern-typical shredding of clothes.
@David ,No I fully agree with the assessment. The thing IS Do You Think Denver Will? Or If Some one Pulled that with Tiff she would ? Or if Tiff will buy it her self? And she DID SAY She KILLED His sister Killer the Monster, that it was to late to save her. So that was a Lie anyway you Spin it.
@ David
A good assessment but one thing, until Denver heard his inner voice we had no proof that Dragons are intelligent in Exiern but several indications they aren’t. The previous Dragon, and Denver’s partly transformed sister, were very fierce but relied on that instead of planning or cunning. What if Denver’s inner voice is just a way for us to know what he’s feeling, not a real voice speaking to him? I hope he is intelligent if it happens but I’m not betting on it, the clock is ticking.
@DocSavage: Regarding the intelligence, I’ll take Tiff’s word for it: http://www.exiern.com/2007/06/28/belief/ seems rather positive that dragons are not stupid as a rule. Even though Denver then tries to prove the exception.
I have no idea what indication you see that dragons are not intelligent. The dragon from that encounter was smart enough to let Denver off the hook, never mind his form.
“Blunt force in a padded mitten isn’t going to kill that thing” Inner dragon voice seems to think Dragon boy is more than a match for monster, and dragons are hyper intelligent.

Tiff knows what’s happening. Peonie and The Tin Can That Walks Like A Man are completely in the dark
Tiger Punch!
Are the bottom three panels out of order? Surely the kidney punch bottom left, which makes the mingalow bend over, should come before the uppercut (bottom but one right)? Otherwise the head is out of range.
SHORYUKEN!
@Fairportfan – oh, yeah… Tiff’s not stupid. She knows what Denver is, and it doesn’t take a genius to work out where his sudden ability is coming from.
Looks to me as though Denver’s feet aren’t on the ground when he delivers that uppercut. I assume he jumped.
What was that punch from Street Fighter? Soryuken?
And did he dragon kick Ming in the low? Low blow Tadpole, seriously lowblow 😛
Tiff fell in love with a submissive type Denver, will she fall in love all over again with this new one?
People shortening the mingalow to Ming reminded me of Mink. And now I can’t get the image of Tadpole dressed like Mink out of my head. Damn you, internet, DAMN YOUUUUUU!!!
More like Tiff’s wondering when Tadople develops claws, tail, teeth, and a marked disdain for ‘lower life forms’, like his sister did. Wings seem to come much later.
Denver already started developing a disdain for “humans” at least when the IGC “knights” burned his book.
@Quartz perhaps. Usually the punch to the gut goes before the uppercut to the chin since it bring the chin down to where the uppercut can be effective.
While I know Tiff knows of Denver’s lineage, the expression on her face on that last panel has “WTF?!?!” written all over it.
Panel 2: Falcon Kick!
Panel 4: Shoryuken!
Panel 5:Falcon PAUNCH!
The time for tiff to become a dragon rider is near….
DENVER SMASH!!!
Blunt force in a padded mitten isn’t going to kill that thing. Let’s hope Tiff and Niels pull themselves together long enough to slice it into little bits and then bind the parts with rope so they can’t squirm back together again.
Enter the Dragon…
(well, someone had to say it!)

@Ragingagnostic if he develops a taste for human flesh it will not be a Problem.Tiff has her big Brother to call upon ! And Feed to Denver…
I’m a little confused why Ming hasn’t slowed down. Didn’t its brother stab it in the neck?
Oh, dear. o_o Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.
While it’s good that the mingalow looks to be close to defeat, I don’t like what this means for Denver…
The Mingalo is wondering WTF at the moment, its world view just got a punch in the gut (and jaw, and kidney).
@Gallstone yes a Endless Immortal Life of near God like Power, Super Intelligence and the Discovery that sister still Lives. ..Yes It must suck…. His cursed Fate….
The order is fine.
1. Kick to the side which causes it to drop tiff and face Denver.
2. Mingalow Screech.
3. Denver delivers shut uppercut.
4.Denver punches in stomach to prepare for final attacks. Either knocking it down to bash it’s skull in or fire breath.
Looks like Denver has grown a pair … of wings. And I want gloves and boots that are sledgehammer-proof too.
Now a fight is all nice and carthatic. It might have been funnier if he had just walked and stared up and to the Mingalow, and the Mingalow would have taken to heels.

“Dragon Kick”.
“Dragon Fyling Uppercut.”
“Dragon Punch” to the stomach
“Finish it!”
Flawless Victory… Now for his Fatality Move!!! He reads it a Book and Bores it to Death!!!
MORTAL COMBAT!!!!
“What happened Mr Mingalow, he barely came up to your chin?”
“Yeah but he came up too often.”
Another thought =) I’m just a mingalow and everywhere I go people try to cut and smash me. – To the tune of Just a Gigolo.
YEAH!!! Go Tadpole!!!
It may take Tif a few seconds to realize what is happening.
erejnion: not sure who/what ‘Mink’ is (unless you mean Tad dressing in a mink-fur coat), but was thinking of “Ming the Merciless” from the old Flash Gordan serials (and the Queen movie from the 80’s)
@DanZ: “other Hanzalo don’t have tails” Huh? Just go back two comics, and you’ll see that the live Hanzalo had a tail right to his end.
SHORYUKEN!!!
yep…I think we wont have to wait too long to see tadpole turn dragon…and also somehow control it, cuz it would’nt be Exiern anymore if he wen’t up n and left.

ok no one else said it so ,..Denver says “I HAVE THE POWER !!!”
Use the force Denver… BRUTE FORCE

Tiff never actually said she killed “the monster.”
She said that it was “gone” and “would not bother them again.”
It was Feren who said “both the sister and the monster are dead. I guess there’s some symmetry in that…”

@DocSavage i got an entire archive that says otherwise… http://www.exiern.com/category/comic/filler-alicias-story/
