I would say it is his dragon nature that is talking to him.
@Insectoid & @Christopher: Himself. When his sister was turning, she heard her ‘dragon self’ as a voice in her head for a while. I guess it takes a while for the ‘human’ persona to be fully incorporated into the real dragon one, and it suffers from a bit of confusion during the process.

I like that Peonie is holding up better in this situation than Denver.
ooh mid transformation combat thats always epic… I just hope his mentality isn’t that far changed that he doesnt recognize friend from foe though based on the people who were killed in the dragon attack in his village I’d say they retain the majority of who they are.

I question whether to call this ‘mid-combat’, especially for Denver, who hasn’t lifted a finger to fight in this battle, and has spent most of it quivering in Peonie’s lap. (Not a bad place to quiver, but still.) Call it, ‘suiting up and going in’.

@andyw : It’s also possible that there is an actual dragon in the vicinity, watching from a distance. The voice mentions “over there”, which is a rather odd thing to say for an inner voice.
I second Deimos’ belief that the sword will be used to keep Denver human. I think that the human part of him will not want to die to become a dragon.

Who says that Denver will lose his human side when he goes full-dragon? Besides, he would still be a baby-dragonnet. At worst, he might need to go to the wilds for a few (dozen) years to grow

I’m just glad someone made a “Denver The Last Dinosaur” reference, because that’s been on my mind since I first read the comic.
@Riniko @Deimos The Sword Breaks Spells cursed forms Denver is Not human cursed to become a Dragon. He is a Dragon cursed to look human till he is old enough to take care of himself. But he IS a Dragon under the skin. There Is a very good chance That once he merges with his Dragon self he will get to take human form again , but it is a Illusion. When Denver did not know all his power is there invulnerability super strength so on ,Example like Ripping doors off the hinges and playing with Magic fire. Witch makes sense since its to keep him alive. Like a hypnotic suggestion and a shrink spell and a little glamor. But chances this will be like his sister slipping between the two forms and not growing yet. Only a small Fraction of his Power witch will rip this poor sucker to pieces.

You know, for these last few,pages I keep seeing comments about perspective and drawing errors like that. Are you all forgetting the situation? A magical beast, formed by possession of a CATGUY, by a BEYONDER, turned into a MINGALO. Hm…. So, is it really inconceivable that it changes sizes? Especially since it was bigger than a catguy throughout. And, you know, it’s MAGIC. Cut the staff some slack, guys.
And while Tif’s curse is amusing, I for one would prefer the comic move on from the interminable and repeatedly fruitless quest to turn her back to a him. I’d probably be willing to wait longer, if this came out faster than 1 page a week. But as things lie, how long has it been since Tif was cursed? It was pretty much the first thing to happen in Exiern. So how long have we been waiting for this arc to finish? Too long.
Well, it’s going to be lady’s night when he turns back. At any rate, I am worried about his glasses.
Nssheepster; This is a discussion that occasionally pops up every few months or so, but the answer really doesn’t change.
We’d LOVE to produce more than two comics per week. We really would. But the budget for this comic really cannot afford it.
Alas, poor Denver. You’re such a loveable character, but now, it seems the end is nigh for the man we first knew you as. 🙁

The princess seems to be perfectly fine. If she does turn out to be a goddess, please don’t have her be involved in so convoluted plan that turns out to be completely pointless.
The dragon collective speaks! And Denver begins his change. If his twin sister is any indication then they don’t change back and forth, so these scales are permanent. Since only dragons venture into these lands I’m guessing they’re going to play a major part here and maybe we’ll finally see the end of Denver as he joins the collective and dragons up… or Maybe Tiff will even get a nifty new ride XD

@charles81 well his sisters Green and he appears gold not certain thats makes a difference but it might, Second We Know that She turned partly after the bandits tried to rape her and then back. Might be a whole will power element to this. And Lastly We do not know if she can turn back or not she was still shifting trying to Grow to full size and integrate when Tiff saw her. For all we Know she still Growing or She could be riding around in a carriage in her Victorian dress and umbrella waiting for Denver to catch up.. Loved her out fit by the way! Hope she can shape shift no offense to Denver but she was really hot! Had the whole Hottie English Virgin Lady Look Down Pat !!!

Hmm. Now I’m beginning to be reminded of Fey Winds. Not that they were first or anything, but the idea of being bailed out by dragon transformation came up there a few times.
Of course, here it would not be so… convenient.
Whelp that transformation came sooner in the arc than I expected.
If I remember correctly – Denver’s sister had green scales. Do the dragons of this world shift colors based on mood, like a chameleon? Or are the scale colors like the eye colors of children, varying by genetic inheritance or shifting color by age?

My guess is the black background voice is the Mingalow urging tadpole to stop cowering before the tasty morsel in front of him (Peoni) and feast.

It’s a little scary to think that as much trouble as that thing is giving our heroes, a dragon WHELP is far stronger than it.
