I wonder if he’s ever seen A Christmas Story. If so, he should fear what wearing steel armor will be like in the North. There’s a reason the Vikings went for furs and leather.
Well, he is going to “get essentials”. I, for one, want to see him out of the armor and in some leather & fur. Could we get that lucky?

Only the Norse very much DID wear steel mail and helms.
The vikings wore metal armor and helms, yes, OVER the leather and furs. The full plate is likely to be somewhat padded, but not to that extent. It will probably be even less comfortable than usual, but within the tolerances of an elite soldier.
