Incidentally, our little Tadpole has a very interestig decoration hanging in his room. If it has a hidden message reading ‘From Mom With Love’, it would be rather ironic… Not to mention creepy.
Also (darn we need an “edit” button), I’m hoping that Theresa has fallen victim to some horrible scare stories about the North. If what she said is even half right then it sheds a rather horrible light upon Tiff really. I mean Tiff could always be a bit of an a!s (although so can everyone else in this world; that’s what I call realism) about women and magic, but that goes far beyond just being an a!s. Maybe the reason Tiff’s brother wants her dead is because Tiff was a less than ideal barbarian and refused to go along with the rapin’s and the tongue-slashin’ stuff and seen as letting the side down even without the turning into a woman and learning how to read.
Even if not strictly a foreigner, an argument could definitely be made that Typh has been ‘corrupted by foreign influences’. That’s even ignoring the gender switch. Which they wouldn’t.
As for Theresa – I should have expected as much. As I’ve noted earlier, she’s a city guy – er. girl – PERSON, and would spend the whole time complaining about how dirty everything is, and how much she needs a bath and a manicure. Scary thing is, he would have done the same things as a man, most likely.
@ Azure. I’m glad that has been retconned then. I mean I can accept a Barbarian Hero(TM) doing a bit of ravishing, but not raping. I know neither involve full consent, but in fiction its an important distinction.
Teresa’s reaction, while sensible, also demonstrates the depth of her feelings for Denver. He is nothing more than a dalliance; a convenient, good looking, intelligent man. Even if his relationship with Tiff doesn’t work out, he is well without her. She didn’t make much of an attempt to dissuade him from leaving, though that may be her way of acknowledging the fact that she knows where his true affections reside.
There are several barbarian clans, after all, and many of them have different customs and methods when it comes to foreigners, women, spellsingers, etc. There are some that behave exactly like Teresa claims, others are more benign.
Damn, I wanted Teresa to come along, but I suppose she is being smart about everything. I would rather her be alive in the background than end up dead. She is just such an awesome character.
@Freyja; in the spirit of total honesty, Denver and Tiffany need some time to grow, to really develop what they think they aren’t quite sure they might have. Teresa, as fun of a character as she is, would be a hindrance and a distraction to the character development I want to happen.
On top of that, I want to give some other characters some time to shine… but to go further would be telling too much.
I think Theresa’s got it all wrong. I bet they shower female spellslingers with gifts and praise and meaningless sex. When I find out that I’m wrong, I’ll keep thinking happy thoughts.
@chemiclord: I understand. I just like Teresa as a character but I’m happy that Tiffany and Denver will get time alone. Adding Teresa to the mix could complicate things. I think the story is on the right track. I would like it if Teresa found a different man that she got serious with instead of toying with Denver. Tiffany and Denver make such a cute couple, but I want Teresa to have some love too 🙂 Maybe Teresa and the King? Hahaha, both of them are manipulative and awesome. Hahaha, that would be hilarious. I guess I’ll just have to wait for the story to play out 🙂
Tiff was just playing up the barbarian image of “rape and pillage”. Remember, Tiff is a virgin, which was confirmed in the comic when explaining how she and the unicorn got along so well.

Probably for the best. If she had gone, They would have spent most of the trip making sure she and Tiff didn’t kill each other.
One thing you got to admit – this one has a brain. Good call. Very good call. “Yeah, y’all go on your road trip. Me, I’m gonna stay right here.”
Until the King says otherwise………..
Wow Teresa coming along would have been awesome but at least she makes a decent excuse.
Hmmm. What would they do to a woman warrior of their own kind? Or to a foreign scholar?
Incidentally, our little Tadpole has a very interestig decoration hanging in his room. If it has a hidden message reading ‘From Mom With Love’, it would be rather ironic… Not to mention creepy.
Heh. Trope subverted.
I think we are in Theresa’s room, as she was looking through the closet
Wait, someone sensibly turning down a dangerous quest? I don’t think that can be allowed.

@Cryptic. I know it’s “old version” but the original comic answered this question.
When Typh became Tiff, “she” cried out, “now I can’t rape and pillage any more.”
Peonie replied “but you can still pillage.”
Tiff replied back something along the lines of “it’s not the pillaging that I liked.”
Peonie: Then you got exactly what you deserve, you chauvinist pig.
Wouldn’t Tiffany be considered a foreign woman now? Especially if she wears her fancy schmancy armor the king gave her.

Teresa is both right and wrong.

I wonder how much of Tiffany’s willingness to learn to read stems from the fact that Denver is dating possibly banging Theresa.
It would be awesome to see what the King looks like in Chibiern

The king has Amalia and as everybody knows, redheads trump blondes.
