yeah i definetly get the whole ”Queen is Mother” vibe. But i guess that excludes the whole ”Faden is the Queen” theory. Not sure which would be cooler actually…

I am guessing “Mother” is the head of the assassins guild, and not necessarily a woman.
It also sounds as if the King is a former member of the guild, possibly a retired “Mother” himself.

In Shakespeare’s time, all the “girl” parts in the theatre (lowercase) were played by teen boys. Hmm, a hot girl really being a crossdressing-guy assassin — that could be a big problem for somebody. This makes me wonder if “Mother” looks like Dame Edna.

I wish to acknowledge that my comments on the previous page (“Faced”) were wrong. Except that I stand behind my low opinion of Steven Seagal. 😉

HMmm, makes one wonder indeed why the Kings Court is off limits for the theatre. While I wouldn`t put it behind him to ahve benn ana ssassin, it just doesn`t strike me as the “right” answer…….

Actually Stephen Seagal is the real deal when it comes to martial arts. Acting…. not so much. Not a fan btw, just pointing out his 7th dan black belt in aikido .

This isn’t the first time the leader of a guild of assassins is referred to as ‘Mother’ – the Assassin’s Guild in the Elder Scrolls series did the same. They probably both got it from someplace else, though. I guess a good assassin’s guild is very close-knit…

Urtica is a very hands-on king – when there a problem with a shadowy guild, he confronts it himself, no underlings. He’s clearly had dealings with them before – maybe their ‘Mother’ once had a royal ‘daddy’?

You don’t get to be KING, and keep the title for very long unless you and the “shady” element of society have “an understanding.”

Or you`re just SO badass said shady elements are too afraid to do anything against you. ^^

“Mother” was the organization head in the old “Avengers” TV series with Patrick Macnee as well. Although that was only introduced when Diana Rigg’s character “Emma Peel” left the series and was replaced by Linda Thorson’s character Tara King. Only other reference I can think of. 🙂

Yes, as Doc Savage pointed out above, on The Avengers TV show, the head of the British spy organization (a man) was called “Mother”. I figured there was some connection to the head of the British Secret Service in the James Bond books (and movies) being called “M”. Perhaps both are a reference to (or a pun on) whatever the head of the real British Secret Service is actually called.

The reference ladyphilyra mentions is that the head of the secret service when it was formed as a modern organisation signed things with just his initial C, and as I understand it his successors have continued the tradition Fleming of course worked in intelligence during WW2 so would know this.

Wouldn’t it make more sense for the assassins to be theater critics and not the players themselves?
