Notice he hesitates before saying ‘disappeared’. Hmm… wonder what that could mean.

I see the resemblance. Peonie has her mother’s … face.

Hm, the plot thickens. Did the queen desert the marriage, was she executed by the king, or was she kidnapped by aliens/Rus/Fracture/Faden?

She must have been kidnapped… if there is any mother-daughter resemblance at all. Maybe a proclivity to get abducted is in the family genes.

Years form now will find out that Faden was the queen along.

Wait, where did that picture come from? Was it always there and we never noticed, or does Urtica have some sort of Bond-Villain/Thunderbirds switch that causes it to slide out from the wall when he wants to look at it? It’s the latter isn’t it?

Disappeared? She’ll be back. People who disappear in fiction never just vanish, they just wait for a plot appropriate entrance. I’m guessing either that tiara, or the incredibly conspicuous locket will be significant.

Also, since it has been a good three or four hours since Tiff killed the spellsinger, so shouldn’t Peonie be kidnapped again by now?

Boob genetics FTW! I can see why he married her.

Seriously though, you just KNOW that gem around her neck is going to come into play and there’s little doubt the King is keeping something from Tiff about his Queen.

Maybe there’s more to these kidnapping attempts than just sacrificing a virgin princess. Something more with her heritage or that title “Guardian of the Third Key”

I think the word “Disappeared” is a word that says to children that they have died ,like ”They are far away now” or “They are on vacation” because the king did says Poenie was all that left now.

    Called it!

And of course she’s hot. This is King Urtica, here – with his brilliantly manipulative mind, he could win any girl he wanted to. Of course, he would claim the best. And, if Peonie’s any reflection of her mother, he didn’t marry her for her brains.

The king is good, yes her worried about his daughter, but if Tiff sticks around. It gives him, or Poenie time to work on the king’s ummm 2nd goal. 🙂

Wow! The queen is GORGEOUS! I think we’ve seen that necklace before too. I think Faden had it, meaning, HE probably had something to do with the “disappearance.” Glad to see the King wants his daughter safe at least.

We know where Peonie got her looks from, but not her hair color.

Queenie might be smarter than Peonie since she ain’t blonde.

If Peonie had her Dad’s intelligence and guile as well as her Mom’s looks and, er, boobs she would be far too dangerous for Faden to consider kidnapping.

@ MNH Peonie is a brunette. Now Tiffany is a blond but I don’t think you want her to hear that comment. 🙂

    @Ether101: LOL

But actually, the fact that Faden had the crystal and that he has the same hair color does lend some weight to that hypothesis. Who knows, maybe Mum was as manipulative as Dad. Peonie certainly is…in a bimbo kind of way. 😛

Let’s face it, its the kind of thing that happens in this comic.

My goodness, the King is his own grandfather! “Many, many years ago, when I was 23, I (the king’s son) was married to a widow who was purty as could be, this widow had a grown up daughter who had hair of red, my father fell in love with her and soon they two were wed, this made my dad my son-in-law and changed my very life, for my daughter was my mother ’cause she was my father’s wife…” Of course, once the king’s son started to say that his father should abdicate to let the son rule because the son is now the father because he’s married to the king’s wife’s mother, the king had his son and the son’s wife discretely removed. I recognize his wife, though, definitely her.

@Chimera: I was thinking there would have been some memory loss in there somewhere. Now if this did turn out to be the case, how far would the King go to get his Queen back is the question.

@ Rock, I could live with that, admittedly it gets in the way of my Denver/Teresa ship (I think he is good for her, and she is good for him in a weird sort of way), mainly because it removes the two main obstacles from my rabid insane-fangirl-Xtreme shipping of Tiff and Kingie.

I am pretty convinced that the queen _is_ Faden. The facial expression in the painting is not really projecting docility and reason.

Faden: Urtica never told you what happened to your mother.
Peonie: He told me enough. He told me you killed her!
Faden: No, Peonie. I am your mother.
Peonie: What?? That’s not true! That’s impossible!!
Faden: Search your feelings, you know it to be true!
    Peonie: No! NOOOOOOOOOO!

It’s also possible that the queen is a Faden meaning that she’s our Faden’s sister, cousin, progenitor or some other close relative. But I do hope that their the same person because if Faden’s the queen with amnesia just to see what the king does to to woe him back to his side.

@jack Who says he’s giving up? Look what’s happened here, Urtica has said he’s giving up on his plan to keep Tiff close for two years while he woos here. And he’s giving up in a way that now is keeping Tiffany close indefinitely and in a way that Tiff will automatically discount woo-ing because he’s obviously not going to be that blatant and obvious now that she knows…and he knows she knows that. He’s not giving up, just switching strategies.

@CrypticMirror: Nah, the King is being sincere here, he really is just along Tiff to look after his daughter and thinks Tiff’s a good influence.

That gem and hair color look suspiciously familiar. My money is on Peonie and Faden being full (Faden as a prince is a very scary thought) or half (same mom, different dads) siblings. …Although there’s always the possibility that Faden is Peonie’s mom (in which case, not sure which form is the usual one and which one is achieved through magic), but I don’t really want to think about that option right now.

To be honest, I really like the artwork of that portrait.

Any chance of that of a variant of that be made into a wallpaper for the cellphone/ipad as an incentive maybe?

Maybe an official potrait done of like Tiffany as well, later on, or Peonie and the other leads?

I’m going to say that due to an unfortunate painting accident, the departed queen up there got stuck inside the painting, along with any plot coupons that that may be relevant to this arc.

As for suprise relatives, she’s the parent of one (or both!) of those harmless ( and totally not slightly dead and/or possessed) children that happens to have arrived recently.

with a… chest that size it would be difficult to look at the face instead of the chest area.

But moving on we can deduce two things one, those aren’t natural, even god would say, “How the f!!k did I do that?” and two she was assassinated by a spy from a different kingdom. Or she is Faden, the Plot continues to thicken.

  42. David
    February 27, 2012, 7:36 am | # | Reply

Well, if the queen-Faden theory holds water: the queen requested to “cherish their daughter and keep her safe”. And we knew Faden needed Peonie as a royal-blooded sacrifice.

It would be rather impressive if Faden was planning this great act ahead for long enough to decide marrying the king and reproducing (before it would be feasible to change gender again) would be a suitable step in making his rather long-term plans move forward.

But nobody would be as evil as that, surely.
