well the question of whether or not she killed the witch has now been settled in my mind, sorry if it had already been revealed earlier and I missed it.
Just what were Peonie and Tiff doing that…you know what, I really don’t want to know. Although frankly I’m surprised Peonie managed to keep a secret for so long without accidentally blurting it out with no prompting. Possibly also with some advice on mingalow farming. The people of the Luminary Alliance must dread the thought of Queen Peonie.
Which brings us to the prospect of Queen Tiffany. Now this conversation is going to be a hard sell! Although I do love the thought of Tiff and Urtica being a couple, they work well together, so similar really.
Think about it. If a knight saves a princess, what happens? He marries the princess! there is Tiffany’s loop hole out of the marrage with the king. Tiffany probably would be happier married to Peonie anyway. And if later she changed back, the bedroom time wouldn’t be awkward.
Cryptic: I think we’ve figured out by now that Tiff doesn’t need an excuse to put Peonie in a headlock. Peonie doesn’t keep secrets well, so she probably let spill an odd piece of info, and Tiff ‘wrung’ the rest out of her.
uberpetty: I think the kingdom is too… traditional to support Tiff marrying Peonie, at least in her current form. Thus, the king’s… modification of their agreement. Sounds like they’re about to have a frank conversation about it. This should be good.
Also – No, Tiff, we would not be surprised at what Peonie will reveal under any circumstances – she’s pretty much revealed everything to us at some point or another. She’s pretty… uninhibited… that way.
@deanata, yes, she’s VERY revealing, in every meaning of the term.
Frankly, I find King Urtica’s expression in panel 3 rather creepy.
@uberpretty, I think the laws of all the kingdoms (Northern, Skinwalker, Urtica, and Cleric) don’t allow same-sex marriage for the fact that same-sex doesn’t make babies. Extra-marital relations between the same sex seem to be ok though.
It’s pretty clear that the King likes Tiff because of that. Though, it seems he would prefer if she killed in moderation, even if he prefers her as a badass Amazon.
Then again, the King isn’t above changing tradition, like they way he helped Teresa. So if he wanted, he could let Tiff Marry Peonie…..It’s just that the King wants Tiff for himself, for whatever reason.
@ Jake
The history of European Monarchy shows that a king can change rules within reason. Making an exception for a single priest(ess), doable. Altering the fabric of society so that the heir presumptive can marry her girlfriend. Yeah, the number of people who were thinking about dynastic change just increased, and pitchfork sales went through the roof. You can’t just say “I’m king, and sucks to be you ’cause I’m doing what I want”, Louis 16th of France, and Charles 1st of England learned that the hard way. Even the most absolutist monarch in the most monarchical states had to tread carefully and do the political dance and avoid appearance of abuse of power.
It also helps when the changes a king makes are ones the rank and file want to see changed. The Church of Rem had already been resisting considerable pressure to allow women to serve. This change to their tradition is one the Alliance has been wanting for some time.
What, so she could pummel MORE of his guards, if it came to it?
And honestly, I think that His Majesty has demonstrated he can defend himself perfectly well, the guards are more a matter of protocol, and to handle the MINOR annoyances.
@Cryptic Except it wasn’t an exception for one priestess, he out right change things so women could be allowed into priesthood.
He could do the same here, if it weren’t for the fact he wants Tiff for himself. And this isn’t Europe, it’s a completely different world. And it has been mentioned that their gay and lesbians in this universe.
@Jake: For the record; the only thing Urtica demanded was that Theresa not be executed and allowed to serve her faith (his reasons for that aren’t exactly altruistic, but that’s a story for later). The Church had to make it work within their dogma, hence the change.
If the king’s “ideal” version of a woman conforms to what Tiffany is now… then that aspect of the curse likely wouldn’t be a problem for him, jmucchiello, he’d get a nice strength bonus. Judging by his actions, he might end up with a bonus to every stat.
@jmucchiello to the best of our knowledge, the King is not a magical being that desires to be female. The pond spirit was both. Which is pretty much the same reason Teresa is stuck as Teresa, she used magic while, apparently, desiring to be female. The spell is contagious, yes, but it seems so far there has to be certain conditions. Either a direct threat to the curse’s existence (i.e. attempting to undo it) or a desire to accept it, and magic has been a common factor in both those contagions. So unless Urtica engages in some boneheaded move with magic in the wedding bed he is probably safe. As I say, this all comes with a caveat of “with what has been demonstrated so far” and that is as always liable to change based on any future info.
The person kissed by the pond spirit was a male who became female. (S)he also killed the pond spirit (while the pond spirit was trying to drown hir) and hasn’t been seen since. But that’s just one of the loose threads in Exiern. Reread the strip before and a couple strips after the strip I linked above. Especially the strip after the great big KROOMF. Whatever happened to Ms Pip? Here’s the category link: http://www.exiern.com/?cat=25
@hipiap
Yeah the kids could have Tiff’s sense of subtlety and views on women, with Peonies views on constitutional relations and ability to forward plan…I don’t see how that could possibly end in bloody revolution at all.
You know we still know very little about the King, He seems awful comfy with the Idea his queen was a Prince, No matter what his clerics say, Makes me Wonder if the king More happy that His Queen was a man. Probably completely Wrong, But if this is the case the King was “BI” or Gay, And had his child out of duty and Now needs a backup child it might explain some stuff.
As for Tiff are we so certain She be that upset being Queen if the Cure Dose not Take?
@CrypticMirror I agree with you about conditions of the Living Curse/Spell,I say again bc people forget. It Is White Good Magic Faden used As The Black would not work With Unicorn.
At the time Faden Said Some one was messing With his books, Alway Wondered if there was Anther Higher Power no one knows about at work.

Never ever change again Tiffany, you are so much more awesome this way. 🙂
She is pure Awesome sauce
well the question of whether or not she killed the witch has now been settled in my mind, sorry if it had already been revealed earlier and I missed it.
Huh, so the spellsinger is dead then. Oh well!
Urtica’s face in panel 3 makes me want to burst out laughing.
Tiffany will make a fine queen… she has an amazing instinct for negotiation…
Ding-dong…et cetera, et cetera. (Let me be the first to sing it.)
Now “Lady” Tiffany can breathe easy. Now Peonie can breathe easy. Now King Urtica can breathe easy. Because Spellsinger, she isn’t breathing at all.
Just what were Peonie and Tiff doing that…you know what, I really don’t want to know. And that’s not as bad as it sounds what with everything “Lady” Tiffany has already seen, there wasn’t much left to be revealed…
Think about it. If a knight saves a princess, what happens? He marries the princess! there is Tiffany’s loop hole out of the marrage with the king. Tiffany probably would be happier married to Peonie anyway. And if later she changed back, the bedroom time wouldn’t be awkward.

I really think the kind need more guards there right now
I mean King

@Jake
The reason the King wants Tiff is because she is a hot badass Amazon with a great rack.
Or it could just be the great rack.
Seriously, what happened to the king’s face in panel 3?
There’s something very wrong going on there.
@TJ

@MNH: Enough to overlook that she was once a man……,Or perhaps that’s what he likes about her.
@Jake: For the record; the only thing Urtica demanded was that Theresa not be executed and allowed to serve her faith (his reasons for that aren’t exactly altruistic, but that’s a story for later). The Church had to make it work within their dogma, hence the change.
CALLED IT.
@Jake: May have used to be a man but physically (inside and out) that is no man and that is all that matters.
What amuses me is nobody knows how “dangerous” it would be for the king to marry Tiff based on this aspect of the curse: http://www.exiern.com/?p=183

The headlock. Answer to all your diplomatic issues.
@CrypticMirror:
I’d prefer King Tiff and Queen Peonie….such pretty whelp they would spawn.

King’s so bubbling over with fiendishness that now and then a fiendish expression just pops out at an innocuous moment.
