ok you see someone jump out of a 2nd story window, take out a huge armored knight and then smash your magical creations to the ground, accomplishing all this with their bare hands. So what do you do? you attack them with a spell song(I think this action is classified as a bad decision)
While I love this story – I do hope that just because of comments made by viewers that our heroine isn’t suddenly going to become a “superman” like character where nothing effects her, and the mental issues she is dealing with (and magic that is on her) is suddenly disappeared…
I don’t like implying the future of any storyline, but I can say with some authority that Tiff will not end up as Goldendawn fears. I’m an avid critic of the “superman” problem and would not be pleased to see it pop up in Exiern.
Lets not forget that back in the very beginning of the story, before Tiffany became female, he mentioned that as a Barbarian he had gone trough rituals that makes him/her stronger against magic – Those enchantments should still be in place.
No wonder Tiffany is strong against a magic user. 🙂
Glad to see there is a will to avoid the Superman/Boring Invincible Hero syndrome. Although I should point out that Superman would be screwed in Exiern, he’s vulnerable to magic remember (unless that was done away in the reboot).
That, and quite possibly she is relishing the fact that her old tolerance for pain has returned; she’s bulling through the pain and the damage, letting her barbarian rage guide her.
On a sidenote: the spellsong witch looks prettier this time around.
It’s not like Tiff has won every fight she has come across. That priest/ess did a number on her when they entered the city, those guards rocked her like a hurricane, Faden damn near killed her during the eclispe arc…
I have complete faith in the writing that she WON’T turn into a Mary SUEperman.
There you see her
Sitting there across the way
She don’t got a lot to say
But there’s something about her
And you don’t know why
But you’re dying to try
You wanna kiss the girl
Yes, you want her
Look at her, you know you do
It’s possible she wants you, too
There is one way to ask her
It don’t take a word
Not a single word
Go on and kiss the girl
Sing with me now
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
My, oh, my
Look at the boy too shy
He ain’t gonna kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Ain’t that sad
Ain’t it shame, too bad
You gonna miss the girl
Now’s your moment
Floating in a blue lagoon
Boy, you better do it soon
No time will be better
She don’t say a word
And she won’t say a word
Until you kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Don’t be scared
You got the mood prepared
Go on and kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Don’t stop now
Don’t try to hide it how
You wanna kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Float along
Listen to the song
The song say kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Music play
Do what the music say
You wanna kiss the girl
You’ve got to kiss the girl
Why don’t you kiss the girl
You gotta kiss the girl
Go on and kiss the girl
She got cut jumping through a window, survived being hit by lightning, had a fight with agents of the faction, gelatonies, the King’s toughest bodyguard and nothing damaged her dress until now? I’d be more worried about the dress being from Krypton than her. She’s pretty much back to her old self, but how long will it last?
If the dress was from Krypton, it would have a lot more green in it. @Ether, I don’t think that particular song from Disney’s “Little Mermaid” quite fits the scene.
So Tiff’s going for the old “strangle” approach as opposed to the “broken neck” approach.
Ok, this witch is in serious trouble… It is one thing to attack and try to kill a girl, but you accually tore her dress. I would say a quick death is Far more than this witch could hope for.
Remember Tiff is immune to mind domination magic, which is why the spell didn’t work on her. Although Peonie should be effected since she’s not wearing her Unicorn hair Tiara.
@Doc Savage I’m betting the dress was enchanted and as its been battered the enchantment has been losing its power. If the comic runs true to form it should totally disintegrate at the perfect moment….
Like when the king shows up with his guards.
LMAO
As to Tiffany not being impacted by the spell as intended (she _does_ look quite more muscular just moments afterwards): it is supposedly evil magic. And however uncooperative that unicorn may be, it is still right there, and it is still not going to evil magic register as intended.
I mean, that’s why we got a female barbarian in the first place, right?
@Azure: regarding the “strangle” approach. I’d say that Tiffany’s first priority right now is the witch’s voice, not her life. Which does not mean that, if time and situation permit, she is not going to deal with both.
Look at how short the dress is now. I’d say Tiff has been putting on some size. No more demure little baby maker. Although her hair is still wank-fantasy long.
Yeah, I don’t think so… Looking back, it seems that it’s been pretty short for a while now… In most panels, it seems to be about an inch longer, but that can be accounted for if she has a wide stance while yelling, which is more menacing than having your feet close together…
Yeah, a power stance would definitely account for it… like she’s about to spring at her…
DanStanding – this is great news – as stated – I love this story – and always can’t wait to see more of it (having now been a member twice in a row to show my support)… so nice to see my expectations of great story telling to be continuing 😀
@David
We got female barbarian in the first place because of a over loaded White magic Spell. People keep forgetting that. The unicorn stopped Faden’s black magic so he resorts to Overloaded White. There was even originally a scene that Tiffany Admitted to being a Rapist and how it would not be the same now,I think that was reconned implying that the white magic worked because Tiffany had it coming and was as bad as Faden, I think it still apply’s to the spell a little but instead of rapist reconned to chauvinist who believed women are things and property. But the Big problem is the Spell is Still White and Deserved and way over loaded with power.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, where did this “Tiffany is a rapist” stuff come from? Give us a link, or it didn’t happen.
Especially as he-Typhan-Knee being a rapist would make the unicorn very unfriendly to Tiffany the girl. But the unicorn lets Tiffany ride him, even while he’s flipping-off Peonie.
I do believe dragondeathlord is referring to Tiffany’s explanation a long time ago pertaining to the typical barbarian behavior. I don’t even remember what exact page number it is.
Looks like some black magic spell designed to slash an opponent up and it does a bit… But shouldn’t the Unicorn’s presence prevent that, or is the unicorn a little to far away. Heck, maybe if it wasn’t as close as it is, Typh would be cut in half right now.
I’m thinking the spell was succeeding and Typh just yelled/screamed to put the spellcaster off their train of thought. Not sure about the repressed anger. Could also be that if the spell is given into then it can swing hard the other way for a short time and power him back to ultimate Barbarian… I reckon we might see a brief change to male, before it reverts back.
…Wasn’t there something about needing to use a witch like this one to break the enchantment of a living spell?
You seem to forget that there was a unicorn on one of the previous shots as well, and unicorn being the mystical animal able to stop and nullify magic. And as that unicorn is his/her ride, it could also protect him/her from the magic. So it’d be like a cup of water hitting the person and then just trickling down, no harm done.
You know, I had a thought. Since Typhan-Knee’s arrival in the city, the spell has started changing her. Beyond the obvious gender change, there appeared to be no real character changes. It makes me wonder: maybe Typhan-Knee only changes when she has no idea what to do. Up until her arrival at the city, she was basically in her element. Once they arrived, she was lost in a world of politics. Unsure of what to do, the spell started to take effect, and she started becoming Tiffany. However, the sudden intrusion of the different groups and their agendas put her into a situation where she knew what to do. While she did have to get knocked upside the head, it seems to have jump-started the portion of her brain that thrives in exactly that sort of situation, and she immediately started shrugging off the effects of the spell. Perhaps the protection against mental magicks only works when she’s confident (and possibly a little angry); in a world she didn’t understand, that protection faltered, and the spell started to affect her.
It’s a bit long-winded, and I’m not sure I’ve covered all the angles, but it’s an intriguing theory.
@GrimGhost Like I said I believe it was retro-conned like the dream wear she had been healed with traveler magic and was turned into a cyborg. Basically Tiff Said to Princess (originally in the first Origin that it ruined her life to be a woman and did nothing to deserve this and Peonie agreed but said “a woman could do anything a man could” and Tiffany Said” Well my rape and pillaging Will Not be the same for one thing” and Peonie said “Oh,Never mind Maybe you did have this coming!” Story not there anymore but it made a bit of a stir. Tiffany people are not nice to women, Later like I said it Got repainted And that story like the cyborg one disappeared. And it was never commented again. Except that Tiffany’s People Realy do Pillage and Are scummy to Woman and treat Woman as Slaves and Tiffany was a Stand up typical Male Citizen Of His People. So Tiffany Has Changed a lot but every Stand up typical Male Citizen Of His People probably deserves Faden’s Spell. As they see woman as animals. And are pretty much Awful (that was kept)
My point is even if Tiffany’s implied Confession of rape and pillage(never said defiantly) retro-conned that was probably why the overloaded White Magic reacted that way and made him a her, As Faden was originally hoping for something squish-able. Now it might be just Pillage but Tiffany’s people and Tiffany were pretty much Awful to women. Still hoping for the happy family reunion with her brothers. She did say she had some but I would love it if she had a sister!
So my point is the white magic rogue living Spell was used on a typical Male barbarian (who was not all that better than Faden) And Justice or Karma Was a Likely Factor. And probably still is even minus retro-conned Rape is normal in Tiffany Society.
Maybe Faden’s white magic spell does nothing more than make you become the thing you regard the weakest. So Typh regards women as weak and becomes one *shrug*
A few things. First when dealing with curses you must think about the nature of the curse. Theresa said that he became his vision of women, w/e that may be at the time. As s/he has been more depressed about being a “weak pathetic baby factory” s/he became smaller, weaker, less tiffanyish. But she decided “f@(& that!” and decided to be her macho angry self. So s/he has been getting taller (at least I think… waiting till tadpole gets back up for a good perspective as he is one of the characters I know is taller then her. Peonie is about the same height.). BUT the curse is still active. or should be. so s/he may be a very muscular scary woman. but still all woman.
And the moral of this comic strip is that life is about choices.
Bad choice: Attacking an already ticked off Tiffany with ineffectual magic.
Good choice: Make the gelatin creatures dissipate. “Oh, look, they’re gone. No need to kill me now. Oh, and by the way, this is me surrendering.”

Yes, well… I’d say anything that doesn’t involve being somewhere else is classified as a bad decision…
Hey, look–her dress is torn now… 😛

@Azure, its what I want to happen. Why can’t people defuse more situations with making out and sex?
I’m reminded of a line from Dragon Age: “And people still voluntarily attack you?”
…though I think it applies best to Commander Shepard…
lt’s like watching the Terminator VS Gidget.
@CrypticMirror off-topic the made kryptonite the krypton rocket fuel but Superman can be cut with magic witches teeth.
