Hey, erm, Tiff, not dissing you or anything, but you couldn’t have spared Mask Lady’s dress could you? It was actually quite nice. A bit low cut for me (although in Exiern it was practically Victorian in its modesty), but with a few minor tweaks I would have worn that.

Yes, it IS stupid that they carry weapons that can kill them. Just like it’s stupid that Superman’s planet can kill him.

Hey, that isn’t correct, it isn’t bits of his planet that can kill Superman. it’s bits of the planet Krypton that was exposed to certain exotic elements found in supernova of specific types of red suns, that have an adverse effect on Superman. Which, admittedly is pretty much all of Krypton these days, but if Superman had a bit of Kryptonite which hadn’t been subject to the supernova of a specific type of red sun then he’d have been fine. Which is marginally less sillier. Unless that has changed with the reboot, in that case I withdraw my objection.

It’s always sad to see the destruction of a nice pair of boobs – even if it’s for a good cause. Cleavage Fracture Girl, we’ll miss you.

Speaking of hot women with no names, we have the return of Cytx and (not quite) Mira. The question is, with Tiff in the picture, will Cytx feel safe enough to tell-all about Mira? Can Cytx remove Theresa’s collar? How far will skinchanger-Mira go to get her hands on the amulet? OK, so there are multiple questions…

In addition, it’s not stupid that they carry weapons that can kill them. Humans do it all the time. In fact, I’ve heard a variation on an old theme: It’s a poor sword that can’t cut both ways. The best weapons are the ones that can kill _anything_, including its wielder. The best reason warriors get all that special training and skill is to prevent that last part.

It will be interesting to see if Cytx and Typhan-nee recognize one another and, if so, will the Faden hand take over and attack her. Where is that necklace? Certainly not around Typhan-nee’s neck. Of our group of heroes, only Typhan-nee has met Ctyx before for certain, though I believe Peonie has met him “off screen”.

Don’t forget the unicorn. Ctyx would be dead if they did not meet. What was his father thinking? That name is well nigh unpronounceable!

I’m shocked that Tiff wasn’t shocked. Um, isn’t the sword made of steel? Doesn’t steel conduct electricity?

I believe the boy’s name is pronounced “Styx.”

@CrypticMirror: Original explanation was that Kryptonians had extra-dense atomic structures, so they were far more vulnerable to all forms of radiation. The destruction of Krypton left the remains hyper-irradiated (hence they glowed green… lolwut?) so it had a massive affect on Kryptonians (but a lesser affect on other beings too)

Then they retconned the almost-credible solution with a crappy one. After all, otherwise the Hulk would be an AWESOME rival for Supes

On the other hand, Humans ALWAYS carry weapons that can kill them, otherwise they couldn’t kill their opponents (being humans and all). The barbarian, for example, can be killed by any sword she has if someone else takes it away from her, so by her logic, she must be stupid!

@CrypticMirror Depends on the origin in some the Eradicator started a Mineral reaction (kind of like mineral cancer) that created a energy field that Kryptonians needed to stay alive (the reason all Kryptonians lived on one planet) his dad altered his son so he would not need it. And could leave planet as a unborn child. But left him vulnerable to it.In others it was phantom zone energy that blew-up Krypton and it was that energy that poisons him.
Again depends on the reboot,They have not explained it yet in the new reboot. I always liked Eradicator explanation the planet was poisoned with kryptonite that kept aliens off krypton as it was a long term poison. And it altered Kryptonians to need it to stay alive. It left Krypton and the radioactive reaction got out of control and a few thousand years later blows Krypton to bit.Why did the Eradicator do it create suck a weakness A genetic defect in it’s creators? Simple It was Racist. Programmed TO KEEP Krypton PURE of Alien Scum. And stop Kryptonians from leaving and coming back with Bad Alien Influences.

But they rebooted it about a three dozen times lol.

This is on my mind for a while but why Typhanee not effected by masks magic?

18. chemiclord
December 15, 2011, 9:17 pm | # | Reply

The masks work on the premise of a Someone Else’s Problem field… other people really don’t want to think about what trouble these masked people are getting into, so they don’t. They’re magic, but more a magic of suggestion than outright illusion.

For people like Tiffany, and Neils (for example), it very much IS their problem, thank you very much, and so they see through it (even if it might take a moment).

Not to mention that masked people slinking around the palace is not entirely unheard of… but that’s a story for another time.

Eric, did you half to make those bad puns? Poor N-Golem, she thought she was in Exiern, but she wound up in Cleaveland. With a splitting headache.

Chemiclord has definitely taken the story in a new direction. At the end of Drow’s tenure, it was an “I’m turning into a girly-girl” soap opera. But now it’s Theater of the Add-Sword.

Tiff brings up the question of why intelligent monsters always have the “Slay My-type-of-monster” weapons in their horde. You would think they would have either destroyed, or if indestructible, dropped into the deepest part of the ocean or down a volcano, such weapons.

Oy, comicbooks continuity. I’m glad I’m a 2000AD fangirl really, at least they make an effort to stay consistent. Doesn’t always stick, but at least they try.

Okay, new rule. The only thing that can kill Superman is Batman! Batman is back to being Bruce Wayne, right?

or possibly Terry McGinnis

December 16, 2011, 9:36 am | # | Reply

ElfGuy: wouldn’t YOU want to keep an eye on the thing what could kill you? No, throwing the Slay-Me sword into a volcano never works, it just gets belched up somewhere else, mined out of the stone by some do-gooder hero who finds out what it’s for and decides to use it. No, keep your friends close, your enemies closer, and the things that can kill you instantly in your pocket. Better that your killers find these things after they’ve killed you than before.

CrypticMirror: Well, as I recall, Superman was once quoted as saying that Batman was “the most dangerous man on the planet.”

There was also an Elseworlds one-shot once wherein instead of sending one baby to Earth, the entire Kryptonian race went to Earth to survive, and became benevolent tyrants to the helpless humans. Bruce Wayne was conducting a secret resistance campaign against them (yes, against an entire planet of Supermen), which they knew about and tolerated, figuring he couldn’t actually hurt them and that they always knew where he was and what he was doing anyway. Or so they thought…

CrypticMirror, I’m sorry, I don’t have the issue, and I can’t find it on the Wiki List of Elseworlds. I don’t recall the title or even much of the rest of the plot. It would have been published between 1995 and June 1998, the dates when my family owned a comics and collectibles shop. That’s all I can tell you. 🙁

1. I think the kid’s name is pronounced ‘sticks’. After all, the C in Prince makes an S sound, so following the same rule makes the name pronounceable.

2. While I welcome the return of Typhan-Nee, I wish she’d gotten a change of clothes first. Or, in true Exiern style, simply lost her clothes. That dress disturbs me. Who would enchant a dress to retract itself and get smaller in a fight? In fact, who would expect to get into a fight in a dress far enough in advance to specifically enchant one for the purpose?

And don’t tell me Typhan-Nee is just getting bigger. If that was the case, the dress would have been ripped to shreds long ago, and her head would either be scraping the ceiling, or busting through it. No, this dress is enchanted, and something about the way it looks when it’s in combat is just disturbing.

swk3k: Actually, the dress didn’t get smaller – Tiff hiked the dress up just before she kicked in the door. And that dress has been discussed before – it’s either enchanted, or made of adamantine, Either way, it’s completely defying the rules of clothing in this universe, which is: the hotter the person wearing it, the less durable the fabric.

I’ve worked out why the bad-guys have a “kill self” sword. What is evil’s favourite past time, after world domination?

Betraying their comrades in the name of world domination! They have the kill self swords so that when the moment to pull a Starscream comes, they can And also just in case another of the number decides to pull a Starscream before they can pull a Starscream themselves.

It’s in the “Evil Villain 101” course.
