And right when Tiffany was elsewhere so she couldn’t get the combined victory and guilt-trip of seeing her rival brought to shame.
Not that I suppose it will matter to her too much in the long run, but I don’t like the idea of removing a powerful magic user right before a fight, it tells me that they’ll need her back before too long.
Yes, people who try to be themselves must be punished, harshly. Happiness is something to be crushed at every opportunity! Religions don’t change much, do they?
Organized religion isn’t inherently evil, it’s just… lawful. They have rules, and Theresa has broken them. She’ll have to be punished – maybe a good spanking?
Srsly, though, most medieval kingdoms didn’t have a “Rule of Law” concept – if the king or the church made a law, it was obeyed because the king or church was strong enough to hurt you if you didn’t, not because of any legal precedent. This also meant that leniency was a simple matter – the authority could waive or adjust punishment if he wished, because the law was based on his own power. Thus, whatever the rules in the church, Theresa won’t be seriously punished unless somebody _wants_ her to be punished. And, as the king kinda needs her right now, I think she’ll be fine.
Downside is though that the church appears to be ruled by a council. Nothing run by a committee is ever supportive of maverick elements.
Theresa, by becoming a woman, enjoying it, and using her priestly trained powers (even against Tiffany still counts) while in female form has become a complete and total maverick. She’s most likely considered a deviant and against the teachings of the church. So ‘just being herself’ in this case makes it worse, because if her true self is an unstable element, then she’s been hiding it all this time during her training and hasn’t ever held to the tenets of the church.
Since it’s a Council, therefore, it’s likely that the punishment is to be quite… mentally degrading for her. I don’t think she’ll be punished physically very severely, but whatever is done will be far more painful for her mind; she’ll never be quite the same in her head.
I worry… but then again, I know that Drowemos, when he wrote this script, had a real purpose for Theresa, so she’s still got some kick to her yet XD
I always thought that Teresa’s “real purpose” was to be the anti-Tiffany. Figure, the same thing happened to both of them — each of them a man, doing something that only a man may do, and then they each get turned into a big-breasted blond OMFG hottie. Typhan-Knee has been fighting the transformation every second from the start, till just recently; while Thomas had the reaction at the very start of “Wow, look, I have pretty hair.” And seeing Thomas/Teresa acting like that made Tiffany feel doubly alone.
But it looks like Teresa is about to be forced into helping Tiff become more masculine, less girly. What I foresee as a possibility is that Teresa might become less girly too. Tiffany would like being tall again, and having chiseled muscles — but for Teresa, that would be torture.
@deanatay Organized religion has always been and always will be evil. Crusades, Spanish Inquisition, jihad, etc etc. Then there is the fact they are constantly butting their nose into s!!t they have no business being in, telling those who don’t worship at their evil alter what we should be doing or not doing by getting in bed with politicians who are just as evil as organized religion. Then there is the fact they are indoctrinating youth to stupid to think for themselves and call it a school. Organized religion is the bane of society, worship should be you and your deity not you > evil holy person > deity.
@Hikaro: Just for the record, I find it thoroughly disgusting that you say you couldn’t blame the priests for committing rape. Rape is in no way funny.
organized religion isnt inherently evil it just can be very easily corrupted if it has too much authority or power. problem in medival times is that the church had as much power as secular authorities which should never ever ever hapen
Actually MNH, I have virtually the opposite opinion about organised religion. If it was actually the religion that was organised so that everybody believed and agreed on the principles and tenets set out in their belief system, then there would be no evil in it.
What corrupts it is the individual interpretation of those tenets and beliefs. If I were to make a really cartoonish comparison, then say this: all it takes is for one King to say ‘hmm, bring the true faith to the unbelievers? How?’ and be looking at a rack full of swords at the time to start a Crusade. All it takes is one crazy person to say ‘It is noble and just to die for your faith’ to say ‘Well, if I die for my faith and take a whole bunch of these unbelievers with me, then that’s even better!’ to start a suicide bombing.
It’s the interpretation of religion by small groups or even individuals to make religion evil.
By ignoring the parts of the Quran or the Bible that say ‘thou shalt not kill’, ‘a suicide has forsaken the life given him and will go to hell’, or worse yet ‘love thy neighbor’, people commit some incredibly evil acts.
And if those few are figures of authority, then they can easily interpret that to their people.
Organised Religion is a needed source of comfort and social interaction among people, it gives a group of people, otherwise entirely unconnected, a reason to gather. Individuals can ease their own mental burdens, families can share time outside of the home, and more importantly to all of them they have something to believe in that is outside themselves and capable of being both the healer of and the blame for the events that take place in their lives.
So basically, by organising a religion, you’re supposed to make it better. However the anger and misinterpretation caused by individuals, by rabble rousers or authority figures who would use quotes from their religion as nothing more than an excuse for their actions, is an evil in and of itself.
People will always hold that capability, to do evil, regardless of what faith they believe in. However, if enough people believe in the right thing, the real points that their religions base themselves on, then their faith and their support of each other, will be all that is needed to balance that evil.
Now, pass me another comic page, we’re devolving this into something that isn’t supposed to be here!
Don’t forget the King’s warning; he rather pointedly told the deacon they should not punish Teresa, so I think it’s likely Alexander and Franklin are about to get some disappointing news.
I think this could be an awful bonding experience for Tiffany and Teresa. Teresa gets taken away. Tiffany learns about it. Tiffany gets unholy angered by the idea. Tiffany goes Ti-fan-ee (sp) Smash on the church council for doing it. Then Tiffany and Teresa walk out together, maybe not friends, but at least people who…well…maybe next time they fight, Teresa will go for vital organs. 😉
King stands back and smiles as his…um…sorta twisted plan works out perfectly.
Also please send Faden my way I have use for his (un)natural talents. Don’t send the boy I don’t like weird little boys who go around wearing Jason’s mask that is to evil.
MNH: To backtrack: In the King’s study, the deacon mentioned that Thomas’ behavior had been erratic, and the council had decided to… do something, probably bad. Next comic, the King declares, “I don’t care if you become a 5-yo girl w/pigtails, but I might suggest that there is a priest who would be immune to any backlash. You would have to postpone her verdict, but that’s your decision, I don’t involve myself in the internal affairs of the Church”. Thomas, already being cursed, would be so immune.
She may not be immune, the curse could doubly intensify or worse, not likely but at the very least probable. It’s what I would do if I was an evil sorcerer.
I’m always amused how people cherry pick both their religious texts and history. The Crusades (not called that till modern times) was a COUNTER ATTACK to the Muslim invasion of Christian held lands. The Byzantines (Orthodox Christians) called on their allies (Catholics) to aid them in repelling the invaders. Then got pillaged by their allies when they got arguing religious differences (Great Schism) during the war leaving both of them weak enough for the Byzantines to be smashed and doomed to whither and the Catholics to weak to hold anything in the Holy Land (Christian since before the fall of Rome).
Thou shalt not kill refers to murder, not ANY killing. Otherwise the same Bible wouldn’t be telling people they have a responsibility to be armed so they can defend the weak from the evil who would prey on them.
Oh yeah. Atheism is a religion too. One that has also killed millions. One that has no more proof for it’s faith of ‘nothing’ then any other religion has for their ‘something’. The negative sampling of ONE planet, in ONE solar system in ONE galaxy, in ONE universe of the multiverse that scientists propose, does not constitute proof there is no god. As if an omniscient/omnipotent being should even care or feel compelled to ‘show up’ for authentication.
And no, I don’t subscribe to any religion. Just tired of the Atheists trying to act like they don’t follow a religion like the rest that they bash. They just believe ‘nothing’. As much a matter of FAITH as any religion.
Atheism is not the belief of nothing… its the denial of a almighty being dictating your life. Nihilism is the nothing!
Apart of that the Islam and the Christianity both don’t have a right to claim the “holy land”. Neither do the Jews. Not by a religious argument they don’t. The jews conquered it in the old testament which only tells us the past. If everyone could keep a land as theirs they once owned… well I don’t want to see the Italian annexion list in the name of the old rome.
It’s war, simple war. Greed shrouded in a legitimate cause in the name of a god… maybe to recruit idiots or to hide in the shadows because of the idiots rebelling in your home. Sorry, Sleel, but atheism isn’t a religion any more than “bald” is a hair color. Nobody ever carried out pogroms, or Crusades, or mass killings in the name of atheism. They did it in the name of MARXISM, which is an ideology that is indistinguishable from a religion.
The Communists didn’t try to eradicate Christianity because they wanted all religions destroyed. They did it because Christianity was COMPETITION. By the same token, for some people, Capitalism, America or Soccer are religions, and those people are just as potentially dangerous as any other religionists.

but now that all of our horizons have been thoroughly broadened, our opinions changed and our beliefs shaken or strengthened, maybe we could focus on the newest developing scene of Tiffany dancing with Denver now?
Nope… it only happens if you define “in the name of Atheism” any kill that is not done by a religious motive. If that is the case than yes, even the bastards of Atheism lions kill hundreds of animals EVERY WEEK in the name of their Atheism! To hell with them!
If one person starts to kill to extinguish every religion while NOT following a doctrin of his own it might be called “in the name of Atheism”. Yet there are not many situations in the world history where this really happened to be the case.
Hitler killing jews? Definetly no “Atheism” as he revoked the nordish gods and created a ideology of blood in his own accord… furthermore he spared many christians. That does not seem to fit! Stalin? He forbid open religion still he did not kill every follower of a god. He did not crusade against the belief of the cellar only against the belief on the street. Does not fit!
Now please stop this spouting or proof a valuable situation where the conditions are meet.
Sleel,
The crusadors killed an AWFUL LOT of Christians, because they “looked funny and might be muslims”. [Because, ya know, I’ve been to enough history museums to know this.]
Organized religion is a great thing — for certain personality types. For others, it leads to Worse Problems than following other rules. Because GOD Said So.
Yeah. I know I shouldn’t have said anything. I know I’m not going to change anyone’s mind, and that this discussion is completely irrelevant to the comic. It’s hard not to take the bait sometimes. Though I will admit that I’m hoping to “change someone’s mind” about even posting something that flamable on a board like this.
My view on Atheism is this, a religious man walks up to me and says “there is a God up there, and if you don’t do as I … *he* says, you will go to hell and be tortured forever.” and I reject the notion as irrational. Sure, I can’t say it’s impossible, but it sure sounds irrational. Does that make me religious ? No, I think it makes me an atheist, possibly an agnostic atheist. He has faith in his God, I don’t, hence I’m not religious.
@Khaji
What mass killings are you thinking of when you say “in the name of Atheism” ?
I’m curious, some examples would be good.
@Sheela: I don’t think there are actually any mass-killings done in the name of atheism. However, the largely atheistic philosophy of Communism directly and indirectly has killed over 100 million people in the process of trying to achieve its goals.

Something tells me those two will break their sacrimental vow and there’s gonna be a rape tonight. Then again, I couldn’t blame them.
Bet you a hundred quatloos they won’t.
I’ll get in on that action, I’ll put 10 quatloos on rape at 50 to 1 odds.
Teresa’s hair has gotten about three or four feet longer than when she was first “born.” Back then, it was only down to her armpits.
Yes, people who try to be themselves must be punished, harshly. Happiness is something to be crushed at every opportunity! Religions don’t change much, do they?
There goes evil organized religion again.
Independent worship is by far infinitely superior.

Mediator,
@Khaji
