OK, there are three spelling mistakes on this page alone. Not to mention four grammatical errors. I don’t mean to be a grammar Nazi, but this is going overboard. There are plenty of free spell checkers out there. Some are even on-line. Or you can find somebody to proof read the page for you.

Personally, I agree with the kid. These guys were being jerks – and insecurity is a good description for it – bounce him off the walls a bit, scare him for a change, maybe the skinwalker will get the point.

Of course the kid will probably flay his skin from him, which will be less good.

Maybe Faden had issues with Skinwalkers or other shapeshifters in the past.

If slapping one in the nose causes a diplomatic incident, I don’t know how
    they’ll handle having one ‘Fadenized’.

Well he’s certainly starting to show some of Fayden’s sense of humor…as I said in the Chatbox though, is it really Fayden taking over, or just a case of Power Corrupting?

How about English spelling Nazis? There are 13 sentences on that page and four spelling mistakes and four egregious grammatical errors. It’s not like it is that difficult to get a spell checker and run it on half a paragraph of text.

Besides, you are calling a guy with the alias “Elim Garak” a dork? Duh! I’ve done things that you people wouldn’t believe.

    “Egregious grammatical errors”?
Firstly, your use of the word egregious tells me that you’re insecure about your intelligence and feel the need to go out of your way to prove it by putting others down.
Secondly, these characters are talking to each other. They also happen to be from the countryside, which happens to be in a mythical land. Of course they won’t stick to the rules of grammar.
Thirdly, I only see one genuine mistake, which is the use of your in the second panel when it should be you’re.

    And @Grimghost:
Her name’s mentioned in this strip as Mira.

    @ MrGBH
No, I used the word because I am bored and sleep deprived. 🙂 And because usually my vocabulary is quite low – the word popped into my head and I used it to force myself to improve. Had to look it up to double-check that I was using it in the right context. I don’t care what you think about the fact that I used it – or about my intelligence. Of which you know very little, since I’ve not exhibited any in this thread, one way or another.

You may be right about the rules of grammar and their use in the countryside. Although I am not that this makes sense here – these sound like run-on sentences that conflict with the way people usually speak. The sentences read to me like they were said in a monotone, without any emphasis. That’s what punctuation is for. Besides, when was the last time you’ve heard anyone end a sentence with “don’t like”? That’s just confusing. Unless that’s supposed to be “don’t lie”. Which doesn’t make much sense here either, frankly.

Third, here’s what I see for spelling: “your” vs. “you are”, “fezs” vs. “fezes”, and “don’t like” vs. “don’t lie” – although the last one could be a grammar mistake instead. As far as grammar, I think the following speech bubbles have issues: 1, 3, 4, and 8. Others could use exclamation marks. Run-on sentences and no punctuation, basically.

I don’t claim to be even close to an expert on grammar and spelling (you should see some of my e-mails), but if you are at seven mistakes per page with just thirteen sentences, you should start thinking of using some sort of tools. If 50% of your sentences contain some sort of (extremely) obvious problems, you are doing something wrong.

ElimGarak I would suggest you go to the top of the webpage, mouse over the ‘about’, and click the ‘On Dyslexia’ link. If after reading that you’ve still got issues with the comic, I’d say quit this comic and read something else.

I don’t know, he Does set off a phrase there with commas…it could be worded a bit differently (I’d use “even less” instead of “More or less”, for example, but it seems like a perfectly good insult, if a bit wordy, but then Talking is a Free Action…

    @ElimGarak:
The way you used the word made it seem like you were being deliberately rude and insulting. I thought it would be a good idea to actually be deliberately rude and insulting. This way you know what it’s like and can take a moment in future to pause before pressing the ‘Submit comment’ button. No-one likes being put down, and Drowemos has created a lovely comic for us to read.

I personally don’t know the plural for the word fez. But I have said “I couldn’t care less about what you don’t like!” in conversation. As for being monotone without punctuation, we can see their expressions and body language. That says far more to me about how the words would be said than punctuation, but that’s how I view comics. You may view them differently (Such as reading the words first then looking at the pictures. I’m not being too clear on that I know).

Third. I’m sure your explanations are more useful to Drowemos than your previous “I’ve spotted errors” comment was.

Finally, since I don’t want any needless arguments, can we agree not to bear our fangs any more?
    (Geddit? Oh, I slay me.)

Really? Damn, sorry, didn’t mean to give that impression. That’s why I tend to use smiley faces so much – internet posts have no good way to convey emotional information. Didn’t mean to sound like a dick, sorry again.

Also, I’ve spent many years at alt.startrek.vs.starwars – you weren’t even close to rude. At least not from what I could tell. You want to know rude, check out some archives from that newsgroup. 🙂

I agree that the comic is pretty good – which is why I am giving constructive criticism. This particular comment (about spelling and the like) is not new, BTW. But it is worse than what I’ve noticed on the earlier pages. My point is that it is very easy to fix this issue – use a spell checker before writing things down. I am sure that I am not the only one who noticed this problem and is bothered by it. Some people would just stop reading.

Yes, “I couldn’t care less what YOU don’t like” is quite common. But there is no “you” in that sentence. That whole sentence/speech bubble is quite confusing. All of these explanations are more for your benefit – a conversation with other commenters. Only the first post was for him.

    Sure, about the fangs.

AH, the SW/ST battle STILL goes on? How can anyone look at the massive tech gap and not immediately conclude that any civilization that has TELEPORTATION devices in everyday use would inevitably defeat a civilization that can’t even keep their ships from running into each other if the ship they’re pursuing flies between them?

From my memory, those teleporters caused more trouble for the people using them than anyone else. And that’s only when they remembered that they had them (I can’t count the amount of times they could have ended an episode within five minutes but didn’t).

Don’t know. I left after a couple of years. First of all it got rather boring, since by then I could predict every argument and counter-argument 3-5 steps ahead. Second, I began to hate 90% of the other (SW) side. It got so bad that somebody from their side went to a skinhead forum and asked them to flame me or something.

As for ST vs. SW it is a whole thing. SW has a galaxy spanning civilization and a much larger resource base. Despite huge inconsistencies in their culture, technology, and rationality this does put them on a more even footing.

The transporters statistically were safer than walking. It’s just that we saw people mention them when
    1. They were in space on top of some crazy anomaly.
    2. Something went wrong.
On planetary scales those things were incredibly safe. Also, the episodes you are thinking of all had reasons why the transporters couldn’t be used. Often contrived reasons, but reasons nevertheless. ST has a bunch of variations on transporters, BTW – some go through shields like through butter, but aren’t safe for people. Quite safe for nukes though.

Love the comic, good storyline, great humor, great artwork. I admit to being one of the grammar nazi’s though. Not because I get all huffy when someone doesn’t use “proper” Englitch. For instance the “your boyfriend” is no real problem to me because I know what is intended. The “More or less what a bunch…” in panel 3 is more of an issue because I have to pause in my reading and figure out what the author was trying to say. Probably meant “Even less what a bunch”.

There are places like that on other pages, where joining words like ‘that’ or ‘to’ or “I’d” are completely missing that give me pause as well. So the only reason I worry about the ingrammaticalities (and yes that’s a word, it’s right there can’t you see it?) are because it slows down my appreciation of the wit, insight and humor of the author, not because I get all sweaty when someone doesn’t abide by the rules.

On the flip side, if author is doing all this great work with dyslexia and the only suffering I need endure is these little pauses, then all I can say is go man go! 🙂

Amusing to see that the typos started an argument in the comments back in 2011…

And interesting to know that my guess about dyslexia a short while ago was correct. Still… that is all the more reason to utilise spellcheck technology… though I suppose those sorts of things aren’t quite so great at picking up where the wrong word was used, like on the last page.

    Oh well… still entertaining.
