Maybe the Northerners have a anti-lesbian bias culture.
It’s the only explanation for Tiff not to respond to Peonie’s advances.
I don’t see Tiff doing it with a guy any time soon.
So…. Tiff is going to be celibate for the duration of the spell?

LOL. I agree with Dragom, it is not that “she” is not interested in the princess, it is that she is upgrading to a dragon. It lets her express certain repressed emotions without having to fully psychologically admit that she is going after a guy.

Most ‘barbarian’ cultures would react poorly to same sex relationships. If you think of it from a historical perspective, it makes sense. Same sex relationships have no chance of reproduction, therefor in a situation where life is hard and potentially short, anything that is directly contrary to the survival of the group would be frowned on (first priority, make babies, and lots of them).

Of course there were groups that considered same sex relationships the norm, and that hetero relationships were ONLY for the purposes of reproduction. Those however tended to be ‘civilized’ cultures (some Greek city states for example).

I think in this particular case though, a big part of the problem is Tiffany is just too confused to know what she wants (“my identity crisis doesn’t have time for your emotional break down”), and her brain chemistry seems to be driving her towards heterosexuality – from the perspective of her current body (witness her reactions to Denver and her jealousy of ‘Brother’ Thomas) – and so reacts negatively to the advance because her body is turned off by the idea.

You can say that again …
The attempt at a 3-D drawing on a 2-D medium broke down … something about the angle of Tiff’s head went askew on one of the X/Y/Z plains.
But all in all … I know what is suppose to be happening.

As to the fourth (middle) panel, it’s quite simple, really. Tiffany’s eye was drawn too far towards the centre of her face. To be honest, most of her facial features in that panel could do with shifting a little to the left, and the eye is a tad too big.
Don’t take me wrong, the artwork is still amazing, which is actually why little slip-ups like this stand out so much from the otherwise top-notch work.

Actually Norse culture, and some others as well (Mongolian IIRC) tended to allow same sex relationships without any problem as long as both individuals acted appropriately. As in there was one male dressed and acting individual and one female dressed and acting individual. Now admittedly it was almost always male/male during those situations, in a couple of books about Norse culture there are also theories of female/female relationships that happened behind the scenes while the men were off exploring/trading/viking. The issue was not whether you had the relationship or not, it was if you preformed your societal duties. Did you raise children and continue your tribe? Even if it required adoption to actually have a child, as long as you did your duty and were willing to accept the consequences then most “barbarian” cultures had no real problems with homosexual relations.

Now a lot of those cultures also didn’t have a problem with people killing and/or raping others in certain situations so take it as you wish…

Been a while since this comic went up, but I figured I’d toss in a comment.

A lot of people seem confused about Tiff’s sexuality. To be fair, Tiff is confused too.

But many of you assume Tiff is a man, in a woman’s body, and I don’t believe that’s actually correct.

Tiff is a woman.

She’s a woman who used to be a man. Who remembers being a man, and has lots of ingrained habits and attitudes from being a man. But she’s not a man anymore. She’s a woman, and the evidence of the comic is that she’s a heterosexual woman.

When she first gets drunk, she ponders letting men buy drinks for her before realizing that’s a “bad thought”. Then she ponders how “adorable” Denver is, before also realizing that’s also a “bad thought”. (Forgetting 2007/04/12).

When Denver kisses her, first she’s shocked. Later she hits him. But in between those two … she kisses him back. (Oh, right, the body 2007/11/29). It’s not until her memories catch up to her that it becomes a problem for her. She’s startled at first, but then she actually likes it, until she remembers who she used to be.

In (Back 2009/12/19) she’s really excited to see Denver again. Then she’s horrified at her own reaction and tries to say something more sober and masculine … and then she gives in to her initial feeling and hugs him. Then she refuses to talk about it with Peonie.

Then in (answer-the 2010/02/26) Denver puts her on the spot and asks whether she’s attracted to him, and she admits it.

My opinion of course, but I think the evidence is pretty clear that Tiffany (regardless of what she might have been before) is actually a heterosexual woman.

I’m with Chris on this. There’s been virtually no evidence whatsoever that Tiff is bisexual (so far, anyway). Whereas there’s been plenty of evidence that she’s capable of attraction to men (even against her better judgement).

Not that I’d be upset with leztastic action in the comic, mind you. Just pointing out that it doesn’t seem likely unless something significant develops.
