It’s amazing. At times, Peonie can be so bright. But at other times, she can be the dumbest person in the world.
The Theory of Oscillating Intelligence explains this phenomena. Intelligence acts like a pendulum, so the brightest individuals are also the dumbest, because their pendulum oscillates more widely between genius and stupidity. This means that if you are having one of those days when everything you do seems stupid, you just have to pause and wait, because some kind of brilliant idea is coming. On the other hand, when you think you are all that, you are headed for a blunder, badly.

I was expecting her (Peonie) to flash the guard, but instead she does something smart.
I have another theory: When there are other people around, the princess puts her brain in neutral and defers to them. When she is put in charge she actually uses her brain.
