Definitely both. We already have references to the Boomstick (12 gauge double barrel Remington, S-Mart’s top of the line), the Metalsteed (Ash’s car?), the One handed Warrior (Ash), there was a reference to the moving blade on a blade (Ash’s chain saw), a reference to the Necronomicon, I think I remember a reference to Klaatu Barada Nicto (if so, I read that section years ago). So, clearly, Army of Darkness is part of this world’s history.
