I don’t think he failed a spot check, Look at panel 1 again, the hallway is EMPTY, now look at panel 3. MAN those masked puppet people move FAST!

Look at panel 1, the focus is on Tiff and Denver’s side of the hall, panel 3, the focus is on the priests side of the hall – the masked puppet people never left, everybody was clearly just busy taking care of the two hot chicks and the Dragon Man.

I think these guys just roam around spoiling major plot developments in works of fantasy.
It was probably them who had a hand in the cave inscription in the ‘Holy Grail’.

“Here may be found the last words of Joseph of Arimathea:
‘He who is valiant and pure of spirit…
    ‘…may find the Holy Grail…
    ‘…in the Castle of Aaargh.”‘

Hey, it’s not the Fracture’s (yes, that’s the puppets’ name, kthx) fault that the priests were wrapped up in some petty ego fight, but they certainly weren’t going to pass up the opportunity to take out two powerful spellcasters. Since the Fracture seem to be magical machines of some sort, magic-users would pose a big threat to them – best to eliminate them fast.

A couple of other observations – I think Tiff was the first to make her spot check, she seems to have noticed the Fracture. Second – Theresa’s disappeared again. I realize Drowemos is varying camera angle wildly here (which is why you don’t see the Facture in panel 1, the camera’s looking the other way), but she should be between the two priests, or at least in their general vicinity.

you are all thinking to much into this. It would seem to me that the mask’s the attackers are wearing provide them with a sort of veil to hide them from being thought of as out of place. I mean there is indeed a party going on so the odds of someone being in the hull isn’t exactly extraordinary, so Its much much more likely that the priest and all involved had noticed the crowd behind them but thought nothing about it because the masks made them seem like they belonged there.

Think of when they first showed up in the palace, the kings head guard noticed them and that the little girl was out of place but quickly moved on after a few lines on conversation uttering the phrase “Oh, I guess that makes sense”. Well I’d imagine that he had a lot higher stats to resist the effects of the masks than these guys do, so for them its probable that they just never saved against the effects to notice that this crowd was out of place and likely hostile. Most likely because the entire group was too distracted by the drama unfolding between them to notice, hence a negative modifier to the spot check/resist check.

Yeah, the masks are meant to hide stuff from non mages, and Denver is not a mage, nor is tiff, everyone else wasn’t looking at them. In other news I think the silvery haired guy may have defecated himself when the penny dropped. Which is fair enough, realising you’re picking a fight with a dragon would be pretty stressful XD

In other news, where did the tsundere badass go, I want the old Tiff back, preferably without the rampant sexism.

Hades, the Nine Hells, Tarterus, and the Abyss are all about to break loose.

    I hope.

And I too want to see Tiff getting back to kicking a!s and not bothering to take names.

A quiet shout out to Galdon, for being a fellow Girl Genius reader too, and a query to GrimGhost for asking whether that single masked woman is, in fact, a rock band of no uncertain fame XD

And yes, you guys are definitely *not* reading too much into this. Where’s the speculation as to why the Fractured are even doing that? Where’s the theories about who they’re after? Are they definitely after Tiffany? Are they just passing through on the way to get somewhere else?

In a gigantic party, where they can lose themselves in the crowd (as long as the mages and sentinals don’t focus for too long), why are they all gathering in that one corridor and attacking two mages?

If I were to guess they were moving in a military fashion, then I’d say they were clearing out the strongest allies, fighters and mages that the King had gathered. If they were acting like assassins though, I’d say they were after somebody in that corridor and wanted no witnesses. But it seems to be a mix of both… they’ve subverted Neils, captured the Princess, isolated Tiffany, Denver and Theresa, and now Neils is also taking up the time of the palace guards and keeping them from noticing that there happens to be an army of Fractured in the palace…

And then *again*!! Those gelat-eonies weren’t Fractured. We saw somebody raising the first one, obviously to copy it, so are we to guess at some mastermind behind this entire affair, or worse?

A single group moving in to attack could be directed or their own will, but when you’ve got a completely unrelated (socially speaking) group acting at the same time towards a similar goal, then it’s either a masterminded plot, or a coup d’etat (or similar) by people desperate enough to use the outside help.

Where the theories on all of that then? Why aren’t we reading that deep into something that obviously *is*? [Pant… pant… pant…] XD

Thaylien….That quest from Grimghost about “AC/DC”….

Alternating Current or Direct Current….not the wonderband from Aussieland.

Typhanee needs a psychic healer…not a spell singing mage.

    That’s not a crucifix, Luthor. It’s a cross. There’s a difference.

A Crucifix is the version that actually has a carving of the crucified Jesus. Presumably that didn’t happen on Exiern-earth.

The cross was a powerful holy symbol to many religions around the world long before the start of Christianity. It wouldn’t be surprising to see it used on other worlds too.

The cross (with four even arms, the long base was a Christian change) was actually a Celtic glyph used to represent Odin, it also symbolized kings and politics and leadership. Draw the cross rotating, with some little movement lines, and it symbolized revolution and political change – a symbol better known today as a swastika. The Nazis chose it as their symbol because of its ancient meaning.

So, I mentioned Nazis – does that mean this conversation can end now?

Grimghost and hipiap, to be right back at you; *sigh* I hate it when people don’t get my jokes.

To explain; asking whether an electric shock spell is AC or DC, to me, is a mildly funny observational question, not a joke, and a little lacking in electrical basics, apologies if this hurts your feelings. What I made was a joke, with a slight element of ridicule or satire, on your comment because of how you typed it (with a ‘/’ instead of ‘or’).

Also, to spoil the party, yes deanatay, let’s stop the silliness; in a fantasy comic, you never speculate on the religion being a parallel to modern day ones, especially if there’s magic involved (actual magic), precisely because it causes these arguments.
