Hey, P-cups took out a land-shark, while on horseback, heading back from the North-lands. Sure, she lost her balance afterwards, but that doesn’t take one iota away from the accomplishment.
Olivia’s first words after the priests yell “Fight!” Don’t make any sense. “My arm!” Is she saying something has taken control of her arm? If so, whet’s the point of her next statement? Is she trying to say, “Don’t control my actions; I know what I’m doing”?
hmm I wonder based on this if the “participants” are actually just puppets being controlled by the two who actually have the issue via spellsinging using the orbs as foci or something.
the hmming while Teresa is doing the countdown leading to Olivia immediately attacking was a preset command “on ‘fight’ stab immediately”
it could also explain why anyone could take one of the orbs- they’re not actually doing the fighting themselves so skill and ability doesn’t matter as much (though things like physical endurance, agility and flexibility for dodging would come into play in a “spirit is willing -via spell, but the flesh is weak ‘sorry Teresa I can’t do a quintuple backflip and land on my feet behind Olivia’ kind of way” )
@Chaucer59:
The spell is forcing them to fight, using all thier expierence and skill. She is warning Peonie that she won’t be an easy opponent.
@Fairportfan:
I think the whole spell is forcing them to fight “seriously”. Olivia can’t just stand still and let peonie slowly pierce the orb, maybe even cut a bit into her chest doing it.
They really have to duke it out. Without the northwind one is certain to die.
Peonie says, “Its like a ghost moved my hand!” She felt an external force move her. Coriander is not the sort to trust his fate to another. He knew that whomever he chose, HE would be the one in control.
To me, it seems clear Peonie and Olivia aren’t ‘champions’, they’re puppets, and Teresa and Coriander are the ones fighting this duel. Teresa was going to chose Olivia because she’s the Queen’s hand, and she was (she felt) within her rights to risk her life. Coriander chose her for the same reason, to hurt Teresa on the remote chance (in his mind) that he might lose.
If this is the case the skill of the physical combatants is irrelevant, and the notion of ‘piercing the orb and not the body’ probably moot. Fighting with puppets doesn’t usually involve a great deal of fine motor control.
@Chistopher: No, Olivia says that because she sees Coriander is only using her as a puppet. She’s pointing out that he doesn’t need to do that because she’s already a skilled fighter.
Again, this why I said Olivia’s advantage is moot.
Yup they are puppets. But i would give P-cups 2 advantages .
1 recent training, physical sword fighting.
2 a magic sword that does not wound if it doesn’t want to.
-The one disadvantage is Queenie will probably hold back and fight fair.
Olivia might have training but is she up to it physically?
Maybe she is, we will see.
Olivia has a puppet master that does not care, in fact if he can kill the princess that would sever his purposes. So that is a advantage.
My prediction is P-cups wins but is wounded and scarred permanently some how. But earns much respect.
Tiff has to deal with a douche bag that doesn’t surrender after losing the fight.
Tess has backup arrive to take out douchie Mc Douche bags friends.
Dragon lady learns a important lesson about caring and friendship from some colourful ponies. Also from helping Tiff subdue Mc Douche bag. Because she need Tiff to lead her to her brother.
With Northwind’s habit of cutting of cutting clothes, and Peonie’s habit of loosing clothes, anyone want to lay bets that by the end of the fight one or both of them will be naked?
Typhan’s scabbard is empty and so are his hands. If that’s not the North Wind, where has it gone?
I think she did take it, the panel after it’s in Typhan’s hands, he’s tearing off her skirt with both hands.
“Thanks, but I don’t think the sword will make much difference” doesn’t mean “find me another sword”. It means “sure, thanks, but allow me to be pessimistic about this”.
And the way I understand the whole fight works is similar to when you are moving instictively – you didn’t command yourself to move, but your movement will be proportionate to your skill. Hence, some people can avoid a ball hitting them and jump standing back up, some people can avoid a ball but find themselves floored, and some people will get hit by a ball in the face. None of them will have made a conscious decision about moving though. I think it’s similar to this.
@Jake: Length of swords are different as well as the guard are completely differentalso tip of hilts are in different shape too from what we can see on panel one and panel three so calling them exactly same is like calling a bastard sword and a long sword same.

The princess has a chance then, since Olivia’s experience doesn’t seem to amount to much in this contest.
P-Cups is racking up a lot of experience attacking people against her will. Remember “Watch out! I think I’m about to kick you in the groin!”?
Panel one – is Ming of Mongo spellcasting with that humming?
Olivia is pretty much outclassed in the swordfighting, since Peonie has the North Wind.
Hey, P-cups took out a land-shark, while on horseback, heading back from the North-lands. Sure, she lost her balance afterwards, but that doesn’t take one iota away from the accomplishment.
I still think the loophole is “pierce the orb”. An i just bethought me that “pierce” doesn’t necessarily mean “stab right through it”.
Strictly speaking, “pierce” could mean simply prick it like pricking a balloon with a pin.
I now believe that every serious combat situation should start with the fighters yelling, “3, 2, 1..FIGHT!”
Actually, @Fairportfan, “pierce” can mean either “to penetrate into” or “to penetrate through.” The ladies should have asked before the fight began.
Olivia’s first words after the priests yell “Fight!” Don’t make any sense. “My arm!” Is she saying something has taken control of her arm? If so, whet’s the point of her next statement? Is she trying to say, “Don’t control my actions; I know what I’m doing”?

GO GO NORTHWIND!
Totally called it.
Peonie says, “Its like a ghost moved my hand!” She felt an external force move her. Coriander is not the sort to trust his fate to another. He knew that whomever he chose, HE would be the one in control.

jpiv, Brandi: sounds reasonable to me.
North Wind was able to pass threw Teresa with out cutting her once. This is the out orb pieced Olive Lives…:( so sad as I hate her.
@Fairpoitfan. If that was the case, then why did this dual went out of practice?
Everyone involved thinks it will end with one of the fighters dead.
@Chistopher: No, Olivia says that because she sees Coriander is only using her as a puppet. She’s pointing out that he doesn’t need to do that because she’s already a skilled fighter.
Again, this why I said Olivia’s advantage is moot.
@Brandi.
And probably why all previous duels ended in one of the fighters dying.
Calling it: North Wind will have the ability to spare Oliva, but won’t because she’s actually plotting against the crown.
Yup they are puppets. But i would give P-cups 2 advantages .

She’s not using the Northwind, when Typhan-Knee offered to lend it to Peonie, she told him it wouldn’t make much difference.
Peonie and Olivia seem to be using regular swords.
Typhan’s scabbard is empty and so are his hands. If that’s not the North Wind, where has it gone?
I think she did take it, the panel after it’s in Typhan’s hands, he’s tearing off her skirt with both hands.
Just don’t pierce the melons!!!
My Prediction. Tiff gets to deal with a douche bag by Proving she can indeed Decapitate bare handed..
@Jake: Peonie’s sword is either the North Wind or an exact replica.
“Thanks, but I don’t think the sword will make much difference” doesn’t mean “find me another sword”. It means “sure, thanks, but allow me to be pessimistic about this”.

@T’Renn it looks exactly like the Sword Olivia is using, are you calming she has the north wind too?
@Jake Take another look at the first panel
@Jake: Length of swords are different as well as the guard are completely differentalso tip of hilts are in different shape too from what we can see on panel one and panel three so calling them exactly same is like calling a bastard sword and a long sword same.
