Swords, Sorcery, And Then Some!
Howdy, New Readers! Thanks for reading Exiern!
Written by Scott T. Hicken with art by Antipus, the comic updates Mondays. Please check out the Archive to enjoy the earlier adventures of Typh and Peonie!
Exiern contains mature themes and is best for readers 18+.
Just gotta give kudos to the artist one more time. The art in this run, in my opinion, is the best in Exiern history. Very clean. Expressive. Just well done.
I think it was automatically added as part of the updates of WordPress somewhere along the way. Since comment threads have sprung up under the remaining replies (I seem to remember there was a third one, I suspect Scott did in fact delete that one), I’m going to recommend to Scott to leave the remaining two in this case and try and be more on top of approving comments caught by the approval filter (it can be a bit random with what gets caught and what doesn’t). I’m usually quicker in spotting these.
Reasonable and competent authority figure, supports her subordinates, knows when a carrot is more needed than a stick and vice-versa, and more importantly knows when to reassess a situation (like, when a exile turns out to be a royally-mandated assassin)? What’s not to like?
(well, as long as one is not on the receiving end of her ire; I suspect she could be quite scathing; she may even use irony)
No wonder readers get mom/big sister vibes from the captain. She is an authority figure, after all, and she is in her role in establishing a relationship with her passengers. A responsibility which comes with the territory.
And she is quite good at it. Iron fist with the untamed barbarian, more friendly but motherly firm approach with the royal brat, and research of a compromise once boundaries have been established.
Looks like the good Captain would like to give her a dressing down in her quarters or possible get one. I am not sure how the protocol work in the case of a Royal.
That means she has a handsome swain waiting in every port. She has no need to engage in inappropriate behavior with a guest aboard her ship. She can wait until shore leave, setting a good example for her crew.
Possibly she wants to mix business with pleasure. Clearly she is a strong driven woman and know what she wants. If you can make a friend in high places at the same time more the better for her.
I can’t help but feel we’re extrapolating a lot about someone’s life off the job and off the boat while all we’ve seen of them so far is on the job and on the boat.
In “World of the Wall” by C. C. MacApp, the adventurers visit The Lake of the Specters … They see a technology based warship … they become separated, one man sees his companions drift away and go over the falls at the outflow of the lake. Later, he sees one of his companions — alive, but very much older. Some of that may be alternate timelines.

Be a Producer!Your name/title with an optional SFW hyperlink will be posted prominently HERE following the close of the month! You’ll also receive monthly mailings from Exiern’s author, Scott T. Hicken!
These two play fantastically off one another!
What about “with each other”?
The Captain seems to be getting kinda hands-on…
Heh. Captain’s face in the last panel verges on the downright cute.
I get the feeling, the captain is actually her mom. and the face in the second-to-last pane is priceless…it sums up how daft Peonie can be at times…
Peonie’s Mom is called Amalia and is the leader of a group of Assassins. She has crimson hair and delicate features.

Nah, her mom had red hair
Aunt maybe?
Hair dye is a thing. Both red and black varieties.
Yeah, butt that would be far to easy, personally have confidence that the reveal (if there is one) will be bigger than a simple dye-job
What is it with you and butts?
Just minor stupidity, plus it grinds so many gears 😀

@Mr. Spock (reply function isn’t working for me)

Sorry, your posts were stuck waiting for approvals. I can trim them if you like.
Oh, sorry. I’m usually much more on top of these things.
Sorry, I didn’t know you added an approval system. I just wanted to reply to Spock once, so yes please trim the others.

Normally the filters tend to ‘kick in’ if there is more than one linkage (or if the poster is brand new)
Is it just me, or is anyone else really starting to like Captain Snarky-pants?
I quite fancy Captain Snarky-pants, and have done since she came on stage.
One more vote for Captain Snarky-pants.

Finally something Phi might know something about.
No guarantees in life, though – especially with Phi.
Shame he will be posted on the outside of the quarters 😛
Please! She is an officer and a gentleman!

(Emphasis: very handsome, and EVERY port. <3 )
Oh come on now. She’s the ranking officer on a military vessel, not an airline pilot.
Possibly she wants to mix business with pleasure. Clearly she is a strong driven woman and know what she wants. If you can make a friend in high places at the same time more the better for her.

That’s the best time to extrapolate: when you know nothing (personally do that all the time, just comes easy for me, knowing nothing and all…)
