Swords, Sorcery, And Then Some!
Howdy, New Readers! Thanks for reading Exiern!
Written by Scott T. Hicken with art by Antipus, the comic updates Mondays. Please check out the Archive to enjoy the earlier adventures of Typh and Peonie!
Exiern contains mature themes and is best for readers 18+.
All I will say is that she better give a good explanation for why she is humming those psalms latter. Well there may be a perfectly reasonable explanation for why Therese is humming it doesn’t change the fact that it is damn suspicious why would not call her out on that in public I would definitely want to good explanation in private
Can’t remember what it is called in the exiern series here, but my guess is the humming has to do with the whole song-magic, and thus why the king is acting different and seems to be waiting on Therese to do/say anything.
Well I can see why Urtica would marry Terressa. As well as being beautiful she is also gifted in the arts of spellsinging meaning that if she should bear him another heir then it is equally likely that heir will be a spellsinger as well.
I do hope she’s spell-singing to protect everyone, and not to manipulate Utrica.
He’s pretty creepy, but any attempt to control him is sure to backfire in the most hideous way… And I almost sort of like her. Sometimes.
I am on the fence about Theresa. On one had her actions are VERY suspicious. On the other hand using spellsinging to mind control everyone would be MASSIVELY out of character for her.
I think Urtica looks at Therasa in a way ‘wait the submissive magic not working on her? Hmm this needs adjustments’ while thinking to himself ‘my girl growned up’ 😛
I think you have Theresa all wrong she never was evil or manipulative.
Reread the story arc were she got her boobs. The only thing wrong with her is she thinks she’s better than everyone else and she is a little narcissistic.
The Kind didn’t show a different behaviour so far… until Peonie did, and apparently he was waiting for this kind of mature behaviour from her for years (we know of his concerns about her not being an appropriate heir).
And the way he looks at his wife when he is surprised and then they both smile, looks like what real couples do – and by real I mean couples that are actually functioning like couples. Something tells me that whatever Tereza is humming is part of a scheme of both of them….
Totally called it. Theresa’s never done ANYTHING to indicate that she’s evil or even manipulative. Her new husband, on the hand? VERY manipulative, and his personal bodyguards call him “evil” (in a complementary way). Plus he knew about Tiffany’s past BEFORE offering to marry her. My guess is that he always respected Theresa even when Theresa was a Thomas, and now he’s decided he needs a spellcaster he can completely rely on. And in exchange Theresa gets: Wealth. Luxury. Security from the Church’s attempts to censor her. A royal DILF to warm her bed, who almost certainly couldn’t care less if she got a little on the side.
She’s not stupid, and she’s not controlling him. She’s just protecting her husband/meal ticket.
Kingie looking at Terry with pride at his daughter standing up to him makes no sense: Terry had nothing to do with raising Princess P-cups, panel 2 was Terry humming what Kingie should do
And no Psalms, wedding or otherwise, would make anyone continuously hum them, even while talking to someone
You are all overly paranoid. Teresa is doing nothing worse than humming an ear worm she picked up from the wedding. It even SOUNDS like a wedding hymn.
Trust me, on your wedding day, especially as a women, it’s less that the psalms are catchy, but that just the song itself means you are getting married, which is amazing, so it’s no suprise shes humming it from how happy she is.
I have my suspicions about what she’s humming but I do believe she’s on Urtica’s side. My theories are:
A counter mind control spell but, given the occasion, such precautions are not deemed to be necessary and would probably cause a diplomatic incident
My other theory is even worse:
Urtica is seriously wounded (internally) or, in the attack, has been infected with with a slow acting poison. She’s humming a counter spell. They both agree the fact should not be made public as the perception of a weak ruler would encourage other forces to try their hand at toppling the regime.
Merodda, that would be from Star Wars. The most iconic music from Star TREK would be the “Amok Time” theme ( http://youtu.be/_dnZHea_TI0 ), which Spock can attest is a quite unfortunate choice at a wedding. 😉
If we follow the rule of Chekhov’s gun here which has usually held true for exiern stories, the humming must be significant otherwise she would not have been humming. If its suspicious it is most likely important to the plot.

I wonder i it really is or is not what she humming, but I love how cute she looking this page.

I just can’t get over her dumb hair.
That wouldn’t be THIS Ash would it?
http://misfile.wikia.com/wiki/Ash_Upton
Nope. It’s Ash the One-Handed, inspired by Ash Williams:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ash_Williams
Something is afoot.
I never trust a Spell Singer
Glad to see that Tiff finally noticed the humming, just hope she is not too stupid to be fooled about what is really going on
I am on the fence about Theresa. On one had her actions are VERY suspicious. On the other hand using spellsinging to mind control everyone would be MASSIVELY out of character for her.
Theresa never made much sense. The woman “who has hair” in this ( http://www.exiern.com/2009/11/05/confused-and-distracted/ ) comic is suddenly assumed to be manipulating the king? It only makes sense in a soap opera way.
@ jmucchiello My guess is that the otherworldly force hinted at in a woman’s place is manipulating HER and MAKING her manipulate the king.
I think Urtica looks at Therasa in a way ‘wait the submissive magic not working on her? Hmm this needs adjustments’ while thinking to himself ‘my girl growned up’ 😛
Theresa is mind-controlling the king. Or influencing his behaviour, at any rate.
Anyone else think Tiffany’s gonna punch her in the face to stop her singing?
“Ash” in this context usually means a religious figurehead like a major profit or Vatican level leader.
I think you have Theresa all wrong she never was evil or manipulative.

@Bad Taming
I agree. This does look wicked suspicious though.
The Kind didn’t show a different behaviour so far… until Peonie did, and apparently he was waiting for this kind of mature behaviour from her for years (we know of his concerns about her not being an appropriate heir).

@Phoebe, Bad Taming, and others:

Please replace “would” in the last sentence with “are catchy enough to”
You are all overly paranoid. Teresa is doing nothing worse than humming an ear worm she picked up from the wedding. It even SOUNDS like a wedding hymn.
Honestly, you guys…
Trust me, on your wedding day, especially as a women, it’s less that the psalms are catchy, but that just the song itself means you are getting married, which is amazing, so it’s no suprise shes humming it from how happy she is.

If I’m right then one of the things the king gets is 24 hour healthcare.
Teresa does enjoy being a woman. I’m happy for her.
You have a complicated imagination don’t you Francisco? Makes for an interesting plot theory.
I think she is humming to subtly manipulate the princess into accepting the King’s words if she is in deed spell-singing.
Thank you for the compliment, Tera. Even as a teenager, I could keep up with Sir Humphrey Appleby most of the time. Here he is in full flow.
Sorry, here’s a better example.
Has anyone else notice that it is the Imperial March from Star Trek that is being hummed?
@Francisco I forgot all about that show downloading it now.
Wonder how many takes that ‘not-truth’ scene took 😀
Merodda, that would be from Star Wars. The most iconic music from Star TREK would be the “Amok Time” theme ( http://youtu.be/_dnZHea_TI0 ), which Spock can attest is a quite unfortunate choice at a wedding. 😉
