The Season of the Witch – Exiern Halloween Special 2017
Happy Halloween, everyone!
Art by Marshall Reeves, who makes the webcomic Yesterday Bound and is currently illustrating the Exiern spin-off Neese for Patreon, and lettering and captions by Sean Harrington who makes the webcomic Spying With Lana and who formerly illustrated the Exiern spin-off Neese for a while and still also does a bit here and there about the place. He, like Marshall also likes making art in exchange for money. And thanks to Shan for his vision, coordination, and funding of the project.
Tune in Thursday for the story’s next page!
Who is Peonie supposed to be?
Oh, I see (I think).
The one night when both Universes overlap.
Happy Halloween!
@Ben She’s Anna from Frozen, just like Tiffany is Elsa from the same movie. Bit surprised you didn’t recognise it considering it’s gone so viral.
@Shan So is that a yes or a no? 😀
@Gromnir I recognize Frozen, and have browsed its trope page, and know the plot, and seen pictures of Anna online, but I haven’t actually watched Frozen, as a result I COULD tell Tiff/Typh was Elsa but Peonie wasn’t as clear. To be fair having Denver as Spyro probably complicated matters as I couldn’t use the all characters dressing up as characters from the same film as a baseline to help me out.
On a semi-related note who else thinks it would be fun to see Typh/Tiff weild badass Ice magic?
Let it go, Ben.
OK, so who wants to break to Ben that a closer reading of Frozen’s plot (and especially musical numbers is in order). I’ve still not seen it yet nor heard the relevant song in question but even I’ve heard of all these references and visual images (I guess that’s self-evident or it would have been a bit hard to script this otherwise).
As for Ice or other magic, part of the beauty of Typh/Tiff in all his or her forms is in not having magic of his/her own but in having magic users busting all their best moves on Typh/Tiff and having it bounce off followed by Typh/Tiff then punching them in the face.
Lol @ easy Frozen joke.
Now that I recognise Denver as Spyro, though, my chuckles at today’s strip increase.
OK, you see I just said Denver in a dragon costume when I was talking to Marshall about it. On top of being yet to have seen Frozen or hearing “Let It Go” (as opposed to hearing of it), I still have no idea who Spyro is. If I had to guess, is it a Pokemon thing?
Oh wait (and I didn’t look this up), it suddenly came to me that it’s Dragonball Z, isn’t it? Now if I’m right, how could I possibly know this considering I know even less about it than both Pokemon and Frozen (which in both cases is very little indeed).
Actually, @Shan, Spyro is a video game character. He’s from a generation of game consoles long since past, however. PS1 – 2 games, if you can believe it. He’s a purple dragon with a bunch of neat dragon type abilities, albeit watered down. Doesn’t look much like the costume, though except the colour scheme, being an actual dragon not an anthropomorphic one.
I owned a PS1 and a PS2 (I bought them just to play Tekken games).
But I remembered where I heard of Spyro the moment you said video game.

I’m surprised I didn’t remember sooner, given that that place led me to this place in the first place.
Cool, though i would have preferred if the third person had been Teresa instead of Denver.
“As for Ice or other magic, part of the beauty of Typh/Tiff in all his or her forms is in not having magic of his/her own but in having magic users busting all their best moves on Typh/Tiff and having it bounce off followed by Typh/Tiff then punching them in the face.”
What will happen once Tiff/Typh decides to lose his/her virginity and the unicorn know longer follows him/her? Granted that’s still a LONG ways off, but it’s still something to think about.
Teresa wouldn’t really work for this yet, though because she still doesn’t have a Dark Reflections equivalent as of now. If you recall the sequence of events that led to Teresa becoming … well, Teresa – that hasn’t happened yet – and may never happen at all for all I know.
In fact, they all went in quite a different direction from Asylum than was taken in the Prime Universe (each universe has taken the main characters in directions and to places the others haven’t been).
Also, given that orientations of the equivalent characters may well be different going by some things that have happened already, it’s also possible that the same goes for genders as well.
As we already know the equivalent for Denver in the Dark Reflections Universe (at least to the point where we had something we could start with it), he was one of the characters we could use with certainty for something like this.
Also, Typhan-Knee is dress as Elsa, who is a Queen, not a princess.
Well, I did say I still haven’t seen Frozen. All I know is what I learned through passive cultural osmosis and in this case, conflated it with the general Disney Princess trope. I guess that’s the case for this particular householder too.
Well, it is now.
“Granted that’s still a LONG ways off …”
Is it now?
Jacqui: tiff slash Typh being dressed as a Queen is kinda slightly betterer than just a Princess, don’t ya think? 😀
Would have thought Denver being dressed as a dinosaur would have been better, you know, “Denver the Last Dinosaur”?
Been calling him that for years now 🙁
As for the Spyro costume, it does look fairly accurate, considering it’s been made into an anthro-costume
I went dragon because Denver’s a dragon and princesses plural because of the Disney princess trope and Peonie’s a princess.
So totally Lowest Common Denominator on my part. LCD, yeah you know me.
Denver’s costume choice was all Marshall, so I’ll have to ask him sometime if the choice was deliberate.
“Is it now?” If it’s just around the corner, all the more reason to have a way to address the upcoming problem.
Is it around the corner? Have you heard something? That’s why I was asking. I really don’t get any super special access over anyone else here.
