Howdy, New Readers! Thanks for reading Exiern!
Written by Scott T. Hicken with art by Antipus, the comic updates Mondays. Please check out the Archive to enjoy the earlier adventures of Typh and Peonie!
Exiern contains mature themes and is best for readers 18+.
I am guessing that she is trying to provoke an attack via spell singing. The results will be fun to watch. That looks like she used the edge of the blade though on Coriander and with a lot of force.
@Fairportfan:
I don’t think it is the flat side of the blade. But otherwise, yes.
This attact vector is one of the classical sword maneuvers. It goes for the armor weakpoint between the legs.
Even a legendary cod piece would not protect against that cruel cut. I hope the next comic is Tiff splitting him in two. Also I hope all his henchmen learn why you don’t magic on Tiff in a most female way.
Holy s!!t! Typh hit Corriander so hard, he’s been lifted off the ground, and right in the groin! That’s GOT TO HURT. I don’t think healing magic’s going to help him now. He’s become a eunuch. Yep, feminized, but not by magic. SOB won’t be preying on little children any more.
A bit risky, given that Tiff didn’t check ahead of time that she’s actually permitted to just quit. Could go either way now on whether her actions lead to trouble or have just ended it.
@Metathiax — There are major arteries in that vicinity, the femoral arteries and whatever artery they branch from. And armor’s always weakest at joints. Armour intended to be worn while on horseback is probably even weaker at the groin, since there’s usually a horse in the way of any attacks.
Actually, guys, that’s right where the femoral arteries diverge from the descending aorta. That’s a kill shot, right there, even if it doesn’t go any farther up.
Yeah… from the look of the angle, that’s a broken pelvis, destroyed testicles, and almost certainly huge amounts of heavy bleeding. The alternative being a combination of broken femur and severed arteries and tendons. Either way… he’s pretty much done for. Though one of the two will be a slower, more painful death.
And Theresa looks shocked – she used to have what Typh just hit.
… I’m a fem and that made Me even wince.
And I know time is a little different for comics but some how even if it is slow motion/time capture, something seems a little off here. Shouldn’t he have screamed…? I mean if there was time for Typh to quit and the sword to make a cracking noise… Shouldn’t there have been more of a reaction from the gelding formerly known as Coriander?
Also-
@kenoscope I’m wondering that myself. But either way, he’s never gonna be the Same, whatever he was, after this. I’d say by sword or by spell, Coriander’s learning first hand what being “with out” feels like.
No one said it yet, and it doesn’t seem likely, but what if that “CRACK!” is the sound of the North Wind breaking? *enter plot of restoration*
As for codpieces, if one is there, it might stop the cut, but not the force of the blow, so damage galore. We might still see decapitation or a lobotomizing strike. The North Wind does deem him pain worthy and not just clotheshredding worthy, but he might not be kill worthy.
There’s a line from the Stephen King novel “The Dark Half” where a guy gets that kind of treatment via straight razor.
“..and he felt his testicles swing in opposite directions.”
The North Wind only cuts when it deems it better for the wielder. Usually it just slices clothes and armour when not cutting flesh. What if the North Wind has decided it’s BETTER for Typh to, instead of killing him or even gelding him, to p!!s him off enough that he Spellsings, EVEN THOUGH he likely was told of how Brother Thomas found his inner Theresa.
THAT would put paid to this whole farce.
The North Wind pro’ly even tempered how much pain it caused – enough to well and truly p!!s him off, get the adrenaline flowing, and compromise his judgement, NOT enough to leave him a whimpering ball on the ground.
going by the title and the way the swing is depicted, Tiff is not going for the artery shot.. You slide *off* any codpiece straight into the inner thigh..
A simple “Slish” if the sword would allow it.
She went for the crushing shot right-to-left *across* any putative codpiece, which would either crush anything in there, and continuing to do nasty things to the pubic bone , and anything beyond that..
Especially if Coriander *is* lifted off his feet by the blow, and not by a reflex jump. You’d ordinarily need something in the order of a full polearm swing to have enough momentum to lift someone in full armor, a sword, even twohanded simply doesn’t “cut it” in that respect.
Either way.. that *crack* is the sound of a broken pelvis, and a lot of… pulp..
Yay, Tiff is open for adventure once again! Anyway, Urtica will have a lot of work juggling between the inmediate fight that will start as Coriander´s followers will rage about this, and the quite unsightly diplomatic consecuences. Hence the “I quit!” , Tiff said. Yes, way to leave your masters in the dust… of the incoming escape, no doubt that´s you´re thinking of, Tiff.
The North wind is a sword not a morale compass. Tiff would have long ago quit using it if it did not work 99% of the time. I don’t understand how most of you people can’t see this.
Tiff’s father used the sword to unleash hell on who ever he crossed paths with, and he was a very bad man.
Seeing this reminds me of an old Netbook for D&D that included the critical hit table for “The Rack”. Judging by what we’ve seen thusfar, Tiff rolled pretty high on it.
I wonder why Teresa is reacting the way she is. She looks like she has some feeling of sorrow?
I would think she would want something to happen to Coriander. Maybe not this drastic … but something like it.
And the ‘CRACK!’? What did the North Wind Hit down south?
Be a Producer!Your name/title with an optional SFW hyperlink will be posted prominently HERE following the close of the month! You’ll also receive monthly mailings from Exiern’s author, Scott T. Hicken!
Did she just whack him in the balls with the flat of the blade?
Seeing as how she cut the cloth, I’m guessing: nope. That one was permanent.
I am guessing that she is trying to provoke an attack via spell singing. The results will be fun to watch. That looks like she used the edge of the blade though on Coriander and with a lot of force.
His skirt is a bit drafty, he can feel the North Wind run right up it.
OUCH! Right in the Codpiece!

Is anyone surprised the barbarian pulled something like this?
Anyone looking forward to seeing something really amazing? I don’t mean a female version, how about a demon in disguise?
One could say that
…
..
.
..
…
was an underhanded move 😎
*cue CSI Miami themesong*
Oi, also, I just noticed that with the amount of hang time he’s showing, his heart might have to quickly learn how to dodge.
The North Wind has found his family jewelry…unworthy.
YES! Attack his weak point for massive damage!
Hmm. Interesting…
Unless this is just a way to inflict pain before the death blow it’s isn’t super useful I would imagine the spell singers have healing songs.
You could wallpaper this. It would be awesome.
Typh is either going for a split or a castration.
Did Typh just slice upwards between his legs? Or slice sideways chopping through the right thigh?
Do we really want to know what went ‘crack!’? o_O
For a moment, forgot that that sword can cut people, and not just cut armour and pass harmlessly through flesh and entrails
WHOO HOO!!!
Yeah!
And of course … OUCH!?!
A bit risky, given that Tiff didn’t check ahead of time that she’s actually permitted to just quit. Could go either way now on whether her actions lead to trouble or have just ended it.

It’s possible Urtica might not accept Typhan-Knee’s resignation and stand with him.
There’s nothing down there normally that “cracks”…
Actually, guys, that’s right where the femoral arteries diverge from the descending aorta. That’s a kill shot, right there, even if it doesn’t go any farther up.
…Assuming he’s something that can be killed, of course…
And there’s BONE down there that normally cracks if severely hit. The pubic bone arches of the pelvic girdle.
Possibly also an armored codpiece, but maybe not, depending.
Theresa looks rather shocked … or is she stifling a giggle with that hand?
Yeah… from the look of the angle, that’s a broken pelvis, destroyed testicles, and almost certainly huge amounts of heavy bleeding. The alternative being a combination of broken femur and severed arteries and tendons. Either way… he’s pretty much done for. Though one of the two will be a slower, more painful death.

Why didn’t she simply slice off his head? Why go for the groin?
Oo! That’s gonna leave a mark.
She needs to follow up with an immediately fatal injury, like decapitation. Leaving him maimed may sound like fun, but it’s gonna be a bad idea.
Something tells me that he’s going to be singing soprano from now on… (I can’t actually believe nobody else managed to make that statement before now)
That ain’t no armor, so those must have been his bones.
That is going to leave a mark….
@Ragingagnostic Because she making a Point.. Pedophiles will be gelded..
Tiff is a good debater. Her arguments are so very sharp.
Totally deserved, but still…
…OW.
The anatomy on this one is off but message is clear. Hat off to the artist.
… I’m a fem and that made Me even wince.

@KencingFendoka, very cute. XD
Darn. And here I was hoping for a decapitation.
Or long sword enema.
Looks like the head spell singer is gonna be singing soprano…
Until he bleeds out, anyway…

Dun dun DUN!!! Now we wait 🙂
@kstormgemini: :3
That’s disgusting, why didn’t she just chop off his head?
@rphb Six words: “Make the punishment fit the crime.”
Boom Headshot

Well THAT’S going to at least raise his voice by a few octaves, …

BRR! That is COLD!
…
Get it? North Wind? Cold?

Does anyone realize how much loot Tiffany just gave up by quitting?
This is pretty dramatic.
Seeing this reminds me of an old Netbook for D&D that included the critical hit table for “The Rack”. Judging by what we’ve seen thusfar, Tiff rolled pretty high on it.
Sometimes, when you can’t fight within the rules, getting yourself outside of them can really work miracles. I hope that hurts. A LOT.
I wonder why Teresa is reacting the way she is. She looks like she has some feeling of sorrow?
I would think she would want something to happen to Coriander. Maybe not this drastic … but something like it.
And the ‘CRACK!’? What did the North Wind Hit down south?
small object with a thin profile moving at speed, that crack could be the Sound Barrier just before impact.
I’ve seen it done by Kenjitsu masters and a Master Destero, but their blades where thinner and lighter.
Northwinds Magic Major Artifact.. My guess is its as Fast as the wind…
Sometimes the simple solutions truly are the best ones.
Doesn’t matter what, exactly, was hit. That’s gonna hurt bad enough to put ANYONE out.
Bad Taiming: the North Wind is a magical sword
