Well, that is a much better reason than what you are left to think, when a family is destroyed and they leave their offspring in their place.

They kinda have to defend the whole world from stuff “man is not supposed to know”. So killing/eating a few humans here and there is really not such a big deal.

@Deanatay: It kind of looks like England which is what I think the Westeros design is based off of (Seriously look at Westeros, flip parts of it so that east goes to west in areas and leave the rest alone and I guarantee you’ll see something that looks very close to England in design.)

    -sigh-

Until now the series managed to avoid this “one true religion” bullcrap.

@Schwartzer Ritter: Maybe I’m not quite understanding the crux of your statement… but… okay?

@Schwartzer Ritter: A religion is only a religion if there are worshippers. From what we see dragons are not worshipping travelers they are more like angels created for a purpose only material bound. Somewhere in old pages it was said old gods left the Exiern but we don’t know if it referance to travelers or not and just because they were called gods doesn’t mean all of Exiern were worshipping them (actually it seems North does not worship at anything at all)

Lastly this is how dragons perceive world it doesn’t necessarily means how it really works (for example in DnD until time of troubles People not aware of Ao’s existance and at the end of Time of Troubles books it refers someone even higher than Ao.) so saying that tis is “one true religion” is hardly correct.

yeah, its kindof a staple of fantasy stories that the gods are dicks or that “evil is winning” or some kind of doomed slow decay type of thing.

much of the indepth fantasy tends to have dark undertones, possibly as a result of the sorts of people who tend to spend enough time in their heads to make a world with much depth tend to have a reason for doing so

    ? not really…..

it was never a disputed fact that the travelers created the world(something about sex slaves) and the 2nd group of gods who’s name escapes me popped in ran them out and then vanished too(something about justice). it was always rather matter of fact and out in the open

and I don’t think anybody worships the travelers much at all….but they do seem to worship the 2nd guys. I think thats who the church is about

Ther problem is that we now know there is a whole multiverse and a war between dragons and the powers that should not be.
It kind of makes everything else going on insignificant by comparison.
It’s like wathing a soap opera and there is a T-Rex standing at the edge of the screen. No matter how much you like soap operas, you want to see the T-Rex.

Rem is not one of the Authorities (the higher plane denizens who forced out the Travelers). What exactly Rem IS… well… that’s for a later story, really.

I am confused. I thought the travelers show up and beat up the Old Gods (who created the world they were called Old Gods not Travelers) who were implied the same race as the Travelers but implied magical called the old Gods and the Traveler Showed up and beat them up and captured them ,then Abandoned the Planet and there new worshiper (the old god worshiper that jumped ship).

It also said some wear The Dragons wear created by the Old Gods but betray them to the Travelers and let them in.

It’s not even that they are evil. It’s just like they did what they wanted and neglected to decode the errors in their design. Seriously, these Travelers are like computer programmers who design a system hastily over night when they should spend time to work out then bugs, then realize it has errors and instead of trying to fix the errors, they insert a questionably effective patch (dragons) to deal with the errors.

@schwarzer Ritter: I’m thinking maybe they are introducing these problems because the characters are probably going to start having to deal with them soon.

Why the heck is my comment not showing?

    Try again:

SNOZBERRY! WHOEVER HEARD OF A SNOZBERRY!

But I guess the Travelers were the music makers and the dreamers of dreams yet also world-losers and world-forsakers… I wonder if O’Shaughnessy’s ode is inspiration for some of the mythology of Exiern with spell singers and the such.

Not sure what you’re talking about schwarzer. The comic has referred to the Travelers from the get go. My understanding is that “The Authorities” are some other powerful group that went to war with the Travelers and captured them or both are now gone somewhere past the wall to the “beyond” where these “beyonder” demons lie.

@Greenstalker: I had the impression that The Grand Luminary Alliance worshiped the Authorities (of which Rem was one) and the Northerners worshiped the Travelers. I’ll have to re-read to find all the references though.

I’m at a loss to see what sort of objectionable material this adds that the existence of The Authorities didn’t.

    Christopher,

I suspect that the dragon would feel that killing a knight that was too stupid to take cover when he was warned that he was in danger was just asking to be eaten. In fact I think it would see that it was doing the Princess a favour by getting rid of someone who was more of a hindrance than a help.

Similarly, I suspect Denver’s sister attacked the knights because they were bullying Denver (psychic connection and all). The older dragons would probably tell her off but would be rather forgiving as she is just a whelp after all.
