Uh oh Denver.
You’re about to be trapped in a conversation with an elder dragon.
Your time is at an end, accept your doom now.
Your ears will shrivel and die, but not until after your soul dessicates and shrivels in embarrassment.
With any luck, the dragon will allow Denver to proceed after an introduction with his companions. Perhaps the dragon will recognize the immaturity of the developing whelpling and we’ll get an explanation for the development process of dragons in this world.
Hmmm, considering the snow down the mountain side I’m thinking the tropics below are more likely volcanic as the change seems more gradual than sudden. Get down the bottom and its sunny and warm I guess.
The dragon doesn’t look like one of those northern ghost dragons so maybe its a southerner.
Be very interesting to see how it and Denver react to each other. It could well be Denver’s presence that allowed them to find World’s Edge. The last dragon that saw Denver simply huffed him away and flew off.
All dragons have the ability to… shape… their appearance, if you will, usually in tune with their surroundings, though the skill is something that becomes more effective over time. Younger dragons, like the one you see here, are more “solid” in nature, and really can’t (don’t) make the total shift into the ghostly, elemental presence very well.
Older dragons are more ghostly by default, their bodies shifting into the spiritual as they age, but are more than capable of appearing perfectly solid… or even not look much like a dragon at all.
Yes, the dragon can most likely sense Denver. What has Denver so horrified as to slap his hands over his mouth? Perhaps the fact that Denver can sense the dragon? I think they’re ‘conversing’ already.
Also, I question that the point of their quest is to turn Tiff back into a man. Remember at the party, where the priest told Peonie and the King about what the curse was doing to Tiff’s mind? I think that’s what they’re aiming to stop. Based on Tiff’s conversation with the shaman, I think she’s reached an accommodation with her current form.
But if Typhan-Knee is coming to terms with her new body, then why continue on this quest? Her conversation with the shaman clearly resulted in him telling her about the magical blade and its properties after she asked about how to break the curse? http://www.exiern.com/2013/03/05/the-blade/
Ragingagnostic: Likely because of the fact it’s also the means by which she’ll be able to confront and defeat her brother. I’m pretty sure there’s some kind of magic blocking her from attacking her brother currently, based on what the shaman said. Heck, it’s vague enough that the curse they speak of might not be the genderswap at all.
There’s been some discussion on this issue. The curse changed her body, but it is also affecting her mind, making her submissive, compliant, and stupid – her mental image of an ideal woman. Getting rid of the curse may not change her body, but it will stop the alteration of her mind.

I also wonder if this will turn out to be Denver’s Sister. Probably not likely though, there’s a long distance involved.
The way Tiff is talking, I’m wondering if there’s a spell protecting the area from discovery. Why would it not stop Tiff and crew? The Dragon is the clue IMO, they made it through because Denver the Tadpole is with them. You might as well put up a sign saying “Here be Dragons!”
“accepting” only because the mindfuck keeps happening and hes getting used to it. and he had to change the idea of females being weak so he wouldn’t die. it’d be pretty terrible to end on the comic deciding to leave tiphon that way. A decision like that would change the entire message of the comic to “don’t fight the inevitable, just go to sleep it’ll all be fine why resist”
Be a Producer!Your name/title with an optional SFW hyperlink will be posted prominently HERE following the close of the month! You’ll also receive monthly mailings from Exiern’s author, Scott T. Hicken!
Correction: no one who came looking for it and actually finding it ever reported back.
and the reason it was behind them, running away.
I wonder if it can sense denver.
I forgot why they came here…

Sargasso: They’re looking for a magical sword that Typhan-Knee can supposedly use to regain his body.
And they’ve met Sauron already. Not good intrepid adventurers!
Ha! Denver’s expression (OMG!)
northern dragons are more like ghosts or elementals. this is not an ice wraith
NOOOOO. not “the talk” 🙁
Denver, I am your Father!
The Dragon runs strong in my family. My father has it. I have it. And… my brother has it. Yes, it is you Denver.

Dragon Growls Leaps Down Screams out “Denver wears my GOLD Locket YOU BRAT! I Am so going to Pinch you and tell MOM!”

Who says they are going after the blade only to turn Tiff back into Typh?

Deanatay: didn’t Tiff already start to accept her change? And stop being a submissive docile female?

I already figured out why they ‘blink’ and the horizon is behind them, but I won’t spoil it for anyone else. 🙂
