I’m wondering how they’re going to dispose of the Hanzalo in a frozen wasteland. They don’t have a shovel and there’s not enough wood for a funeral pyre. Besides, burial in ice isn’t practical. Even if the ice doesn’t melt and expose the carcass at the next spring thaw, ice shifts with time, meaning the remains could pop out as cold blue icicles. Very nasty.
Am I the only one wondering why, if he took off the furs and handed them to Peony, he’s still wearing them in the final panel? No one seems to have mentioned it.
Yes, cut off the sleeve of the jacket because metal is so much better at insulating against cold than fur is.
I totally want someone with extra-dimensional pop culture knowledge like Faden to sneak up on a sleeping Neil some evening and give him a red and gold paint job on his armor.
Mr. Bill: only someone who has zero knowledge about armour (or what they see on GoT) would assume there would be nothing worn underneath the suit of armour (even chainmail tends to have leather/cloth worn underneath it)
At least Neils didn’t assume about Hairball customs regarding their dead, he asked first
I will go with Neil having some kind of warming charm on his armor, they have magic in this world. So, why would you not make the armor you wear all the time as comfortable as possible.
@Mr.Bill: As Guesticus pointed out plate armor isn’t normally worn alone(captain commando is an exception). There is normally a thick padded cloth suit to absorb impacts first then chain to cover the holes left in the plate so you can move.
Also he is part of the kings personal guard in a world with magic. It wouldn’t be at all surprising for it to have enchantments to protect against extreme temps, corrosive agents and other environmental hazards/magic attacks.
Of course not. They have five day burial festivals where everyone in the tribe eats the flesh of the deceased and the bones are turned into toys for the children, and ornaments for the family,.
While in the SCA, we had gambeson (or varients) that we wore under our chainmail (or plate). Itchy, scratchy and NOT fun during hot/humid months. And they smelled too if not cleaned/aired out properly!
I am not so Certain Neil all that human .. I always get a Death Knight /Flesh Golem Vibe when I see those Glowing Eyes. I mean if it was Jet Black Armor with Skulls on it we all go DEATH NIGHT but he’s in white and we go ahh Magic charms !! But Neil not bothered by cold nor tires and appears way to strong.. It might be magic buy but in that snow hes very Frankenstein looking. Not to mention this scene so lone ago http://www.exiern.com/2011/04/20/or-maybe-not/ Frankenstein looking. Can not Help thinking the King had his Priest/mages make a better Knight out of Neil Literally.. Like a Fantasy World Bionic-Man .
Actually Jonathan, if you read the comments for that page you listed, that was Bohrs on the slab (and it looks like he is the bald one, but Niels most certainly has a full head of blond hair {cut short to fit under his helmet of course, he aint no poofy Prince Charming :P})
True but they are a set. As for we have seen his skin so what. If the king had a set of Flesh Golems or a magically surgically enhanced Knights he would Try and keep it secret for no other reason than keep the Advantage, If you can rebuild a body sew on a arm, hiding a scar would not be that big a deal.Heck if there are scars or tell-tail sins they might be under the Chest piece.
Not required he has false Memories , Just the Bionic-man origin.
Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the Magic. We have the capability to build the world’s first DeathKnight. Neil and Bohrs would not need to lose there history or a set of fake Memories. Just Two loyal Knights that Get Rebuilt After they wear hurt or killed. They might not even need to be undead, just rebuilt.
IS NO ONE GETTING THE FACT THAT THEIR NAMES WERE NIELS AND BOHR, LIKE NIELS BOHR: THE FAMOUS PHYSICIST WHO PIONEERED ATOMIC STRUCTURES AND QUANTUM MECHANICS? EVER SINCE HIS FIRST APPEARANCE I’VE BEEN WAILING ‘NIELS’ ECSTATICALLY. THIS ADORATION HAS ALSO CAUSED ME TO WRITE COMPLETELY IN CAPITAL LETTERS. NIELS IS ACTUALLY MY FAVOURITE CHARACTER. I HAVE A MOUTH AND I MUST SQUEE.
Be a Producer!Your name/title with an optional SFW hyperlink will be posted prominently HERE following the close of the month! You’ll also receive monthly mailings from Exiern’s author, Scott T. Hicken!
And he’ll turn out to be alive.
Anyways, I really do hope something fun does happen to Peony. Anything will do even a slip of the tong.
Neil Ever Practical.
Slip of the tongue? Slip of a thong? Neat little triple entendre, anyway.
And a complete accident…but let’s pretend that it was totally on purpose.

Nevermind. I see now. He cut the sleeve off his
ah, so its not that he went rooting around under the furs and pulled out a third glove grina made him wear somewhere

Why would Neils’ sclerites contain metal?

Nobody noticed the glowy gem things on his armor changing colors? My guess is blue = cold climate setting.

He can probably sleep in that armor thanks to some comfort charm. Heck, he probably doesn’t even need bio breaks.
Of course not. They have five day burial festivals where everyone in the tribe eats the flesh of the deceased and the bones are turned into toys for the children, and ornaments for the family,.
@Bob-AW: the lack of scheduled bio breaks _is_ what keeps him warm and comfy. There is a reason he is not taking off the armour in company.

Just been reading about the Norse Draugr and I can now see that it’s clearly a significant inspiration for the Mingalow.

@David.
Let me say I had not considered that option…ew.
Does explain a lot though…
@jonathan
we saw his head, he has hair and skin and such
Tegre: so did Frankenstein’s monster (and Herman Munster :P)

So Kingie also ‘programmed’ Niels with false memories? And he was actually breaking into someone elses house and stealing their stuff?
Not required he has false Memories , Just the Bionic-man origin.

that bionic man thing might be what happened to bohrs

Might not need to bury him if he keeps sliding out of the panel like that.
