Either they did more than normal raiding in that area, or they know exactely who he is and why he would be especially pissed (well, maybe not know who he is, but have a very good inkling about who his family was)
I believe those two old men just learned the value of diplomatic silence. Let’s see whether they can learn the value of sneaking away and not being seen anymore, ever again. 😀
“It is funny it is freezing cold in here and for some reason I am sweating like hell I should change my underwears before it gets too bad would you join to me my friend”
“Yeah I think ı have same problem I think we caught a disease that made us sweating like hell and wetting our underwears”
@ Dragondeathlord: Neils is twice their size, young, armed with a BIG axe, armoured like a tank and therefore logically needs to have the muscle-power of a bull. And he has ample reason to want a lot of Northmen dead. Death is a very strong possibility if he loses his self-control, and the barbarian geezers just realized they’ve been heckling him. :p
In some other comic I read, there was a similar “awkward moment” where the author used the same drawing three times in a row. In the comment section, several people berated the comic author for his “laziness”. He said he considered it to go nicely with the dramatic flow.
I have to admit that I’d have considered this comic quite funnier if here, in a similar manner, the last panel would just have been identical to the second-to-last panel.
Except that you’d have gotten the same kind/amount of jerks to complain. Maybe copy that second-to-last panel two additional times (making an additional row from it), keeping the total of individually drawn frames the same.
Just figured another reason they are so crapping their bloomers: considering their apparant ages, it’s possible that their favourite raiding area was Neese (if it was somewhere else, could see them directing Niels to other old codgers as a joke to see how he would react)
Page with explains how Ash tribe was one that mostly raided the village. Page before explains they were only tribe with blondes as also did most of raping of the village.
@david, I’ve seen it work and seen it fail. This version worked for me, I do think that just the sweat without any words would have been good too, but this version works. Your suggestions would have worked too.
Also, what no one has mentioned is that those guys probably just realized that he did not only his own work but “half the clans” work WHILE WEARING ARMOR. Most people take of a shirt to chop wood, even when it’s very cold out.

Well that shut them up.
and that day, not a pant was dry among the two.
Merry Christmas.
Oh buggah!
These awkward silences.

Soooo, run?
Merry Christmas one and all, and thank you to our wonderful scribe and artist for a brilliant comic for the year.
That last panel was awesome. It didn’t even need the text bubble to tell what they were thinking.
@ DragonChild: Good one. ^^

Unspoken subtext in last panel – “Crap!” 😀
They look like they expect to die.

Slowly walking away than running like hell
