This whole power play is going to bit him in the a!s. Where it will be Peonie’s or her father’s or someone else’s doing is the question. But I really hope it’s the princess.
“Preparing the evening meal” includes far more than cooking. There’s washing and peeling vegetables. There’s cutting and separating meats into portions. There’s presenting the table, and as seen just now, there’s also transporting the meal from the kitchen to the table as well as serving it. Oh, and there’s also washing the dishes and cookware. As long as Peonie isn’t putting the meal into the pot/stove, it should be ok, mostly. We still haven’t seen if Peonie is particularly adept carrying serving trays.
@Azure Princess Peonie near mystical(might even be a curse) But if she touches looks or Even stands to close to food well. I am with Greenstalker here “THERE DOOOMMED YOU HEAR ME DOOOMMMMED! DOOOOOMMMMED”
Well…I have no objection in principle to forcing toffs to do real work, could do with more of that in real life if you ask me. On the Peonie thing I’d have been bang alongside Sideshow Mel here telling Peonie to work for a livin’ if it hadn’t been for the veiled insinuation of rape and assault. Two questions spring to mind, why would it matter if Peonie is a princess of the Luminary Alliance to those dwarfs and hobbi////halflings (darn Tolkien estate), what has the alliance done that makes them resent it. Question 2; if they are in semi-hostile territory, why is Peonie wearing a crown that proclaims to all and sundry her status? Talk about just creating trouble, take the crown off princess!
And of course the ongoing violation of Hospitality (yes I know I keep coming back to that, but it is an important value to me in real life as well).
You know this question on the Barbarians Good or Evil reminds me a little of how the silent movie “the lost word” was nearly never completed. The problem was the Government Censors were cought in a catch 22. Dinosaurs are they Animals or Monsters. According to the Censorship regulations of the Day Monsters that stared had to Die at the end of a film as they were Immoral but a dog a horse what ever had to live at the end. As they amoral and it be immoral to have animal stars die. Because they acted out of instinct and had not the ability to chose Good from Evil. But a Dinosaur was both monster and natural creature. So in the end they did both they had the Dinosaur Escape to the River . If you think it’s a Animal (Amoral) it swam home,If you think its a Monster (immoral) it drowned. The Barbarians Are they honestly Evil understand that Rapes Wrong (immoral) or if they Honestly just think its Normal and thats How Sex is supposed to be(amoral to stupid to know better).
Ok i think to much.
On one hand I can see that as the king of sharks, you can only be so good before you are eaten. On the other, Peonie’s father seams to be the king of weasels, so are there any good guys here? Maybe the dragons.
Melan-Knee has shown himself to be full of self-confidence and bravado (as is appropriate for the chieftain of a barbarian tribe, who must show himself to be strong and ruthless at all times, lest someone decide he can be overthrown), but so far not particularly evil. Currently, he seems to be testing each of the visitors, separating them from their companions, so he can collect info on each of them separately, and compare their stories. Which demonstrates a certain cunning, as well. We’ll see if that translates into actual intelligence..
He’s scheming.
I do not know what exactly his plan is, but is is going to fail since both Niels and Peone have had a lot of experience with Machiavellian rulers.
I read it not as a threat, but as interrupting her right before she made the mistake of announcing her royalty. He’s not overly polite but I agree that he’s scheming, not just malicious.
Isn’t it strange that non-human seem much more common in barbarian territory? Perhaps the Luminaries doesn’t accept them. That could explain Mel’s comment.

I see there are Human females, We have yet to see the males other than the brother,”HMMMMMM?”

He’s pretty well-informed for a barbarian chieftain.
Um, the “sunburst”coronet kinda gives it away anyway.
Peonie is going to prepare the evening meal. “And after one meal a whole tribe of barbarians with mixed races went extinct.”
Last time she cooked we got a weird flavored jello golem. What will she cook up this time?
My thoughts exactly, Greenstalker! Apparently Mel-Knee isn’t as well informed as he thinks, if he assigned Peonie to cooking duty.

I wonder what he’s gonna say about Denver.

Sorry some one had to do it.
God that rapist stare at the end is still giving me chills

We need a narrator there somewhere. WE NEED IT. Someone has to say the ,DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!” in-universe as well.
I can’t tell if he is evil or just an a!s?
@ Azure:
She should be pretty good transporting food. She’s got a permanent set of snack trays to prove how good she is at it!
For some reason he doesn’t seem like a bad person (I doubt he hired the assassin too)

Next Panel: “I am more than capable of fixing you a nice meal kind sir…”

He’s not evil. Evil would be encouraging Peonie to tell the “help” who she really is.
