Hikaro: I don’t think she comprehended the words, she actually thought Theresa cast a spell or something with the letters! She thinks she has a spellcaster for backup, so she’s going after Denver. It’s just a funny coincidence that she said there’s no time to get help.
@Hikaro. You have misunderstood what has happened. Teresa wrote she cannot do anything and to go get help. Tiff, unable to read because she is just a dumb blonde bimbo (good job she can’t read this, eh), thinks Teresa has has demonstrated she can do “magic runes” and is dragging her into the fray because she thinks there is no time to get help.
They aren’t going to get help like Teresa wants, because Tiff thinks they are the help.
@CrypticMirror, illiterate=/=stupid. If you live in a harsh wilderness, where you spend every waking moment searching for food and trying to keep from BEING food, you don’t exactly have the luxury of learning to read and write. Doesn’t necessarily mean you’re stupid. It just means you haven’t been taught.
There ARE plenty of people who CAN read and write, yet are complete morons. Just look at the “occupy dumb street” protesters. Holding up signs saying “outlaw money,” “there are too many rich Jews” “pay MY tuition” and so on.
I dunno, if I were asked something like “Can you cast spells without your voice?” and I knew the answer was NO the first thing I’d do is… I know this sounds extraordinarily clever so perhaps they never thought of it… I’d SHAKE MY HEAD.
I’m a bit weary of the “plot relies on character stupidity” trope, but I guess I can forgive a bit of it in a comedy strip (since comedy by its very nature requires a certain level of this).
Perfect. This is just perfect. Teresa is so used to acting elegant and Raritylike that she ignores the simple, efficient way of signing “No”, and she was too busy baiting Tiffany way back when for it to really sink in that Tiff’s illiterate (plus, as noted above, people who can read just assume others can also).
Meanwhile, Tiff, knowing that Teresa SHOULD know that she’s illiterate, unconsciously assumes that Teresa is already taking that into account. There’s probably also some kneejerk defensiveness about her lack of civilized ways making her not consider things deeper.
@Coyotenose I have to admit, I would probably do much along the same lines as Teresa in that situation. Maybe a melodramatic gesture and pull a face (a silent “are you kidding me, twerp”), but then I’d be scrambling for something to write my sarcasm on without realising hum stupid it would be. Trouble is, “how can you be so dumb as to know it isn’t possible” is very easy to misinterpret as “how can you be so dumb as to even consider that I cannot do that”, especially when you know the person saying it is a bit arrogant.
Likewise, if I was in Tiff’s position, I would assume the same thing, that #person knows I can’t read because like every single person on the planet I *know* that I am just *so* important that everyone instantly recalls every single casual conversation we ever had, and takes it into account no matter how many other more personal/traumatising events have passed in the interim.
There you go, perpetuating hurtful stereotypes. No, there are NOT “really” too many rich jews, any more than there are to many rich Christians, hindus or muslims.
There ARE, however, too many rich brats screaming “That’s the Bank that stole my parents’ home!” when his parents SOLD their home and downsized, perfectly voluntarily (Yes, some newspeople actually bothered to check out who he was and did some checking…)
This is indeed a magic mirror. Tiffany’s errant lock of hair should be to the right of her nose (our left), not to the left of her nose like we always see it.
ok here’s what she should do, write down “tell tiffany that these runes are casting a magic spell that will make her as strong as she was yesterday as long as she lets herself feel confidant” and show it to someone.
Yeah, Tiffany still seems pretty tall for a “little thing.” Maybe she’s not done changing. I could’ve sworn her hair was longer, too. Ooh, I obsess over the strangest things.
How is she smart enough to know how to write, know she can write on her breath on a mirror, but NOT be smart enough to think to just shake her head?
Dumb girl, you deserve the horrible death that awaits you.
Be a Producer!Your name/title with an optional SFW hyperlink will be posted prominently HERE following the close of the month! You’ll also receive monthly mailings from Exiern’s author, Scott T. Hicken!
LOL
ummmm wasn’t Theresa at there when Tiff mentioned she can’t read and even made a comment on how barbarians are?
Does nt mean she was thinking about that. If you CAN read, you first impulse upon realizing you can’t talk is to spell.
How is it that dork didn”t realize before now that Tiff can’t read?
I don’t get it, though, does she understand the “get help” part? She clearly doesn’t understand “Powerless”, but she responds to “get help”.

Poor Tiffany. Hasn’t got a clue. This is where being her old self would come in very handy right now.
Cryptic, someone might read it to her. Also, she might eventually learn to read. So watch yourself.

Okay, no one give Azure any more coffee.
@Drachefly…I now see the flaw in my previously cunning plan…help.
@CrypticMirror:
you explained the comic to me six minutes late.
@Azure:
Are there REALLY too many rich Jews?
Oops… she forgot Tiff can’t read. That isn’t going to help.
*facepalms and laughs*

@ Elfguy
Hey, now, I’m just trying to figure something out, okay? I didn’t mean to perpetuate any stereotypes, you [Stereotype Deleted].
Yeah, if you’ll note, she’s gone all take charge Wo(man) of Action again so the curse is adjusting itself to Tiffany’s new mindset.
@ Doug
and it’s about time too ;P
Wow.
Death by illiteracy.
