I don’t think Tiffany can be goaded back to her old self. It doesn’t seem to be related to her level of anger but her self image as a woman. She doesn’t believe that women can fight, can’t fend for themselves, can’t stand up for their rights, can’t stand up to a man … and therefore, she can’t. She may try, but, deep down, she doesn’t believe a woman is capable of it.
With each failure (the above ineffective slap), she becomes more aware that she is becoming a woman, the type of woman she believes that all women are. Presenting her with other options, other female role models, may be too late at this point. Prior to reaching civilization, Tiffany still viewed herself as a temporarily inconvenienced male barbarian. All of the recent attempts to tame her have started her down a slippery slope, on which she is gaining speed. Her only chance to get back to the old busty barbarian we know and love is a reversal of the curses progress, a reset of some kind. It’s not possible to change her self image in time to save her, you’re talking about a lifetime of living in a male dominated society.
When you think about it, that’s one hell of a curse.
We’re building to a crisis here: King Urtica (“Hives?”) has demanded that the curse/spell on Tiffany be reversed, no matter the consequences; Peonie kidnapped by a guard under a spell (by whom?); Faden’s arm is loose in the castle–and in league with strange beings, shape-shifting Rus are visiting the capital for as-yet unstated reasons; the Eye (which Tiffany is wearing, remember?) is being sought–for what purpose? And who knows what else?
Reminds me of an A. E. Van Vogt novel; he said his style was introduce a new idea or element every thousand words. (Read _The Weapon Makers_ if you can find a copy. One of the greatest of the “hard” SF novels of the good old days; I suggest you do _not_ rent office space in the Trellis Minor building…)
@Hikaro
Hikaro they are walking along a corridor, when they stopped to chat (in front of what is a suspiciously prominent mirror if you ask me) after Teresa’s put-down (because it was that funny). Tiff has presumably followed them along it, or even used another door.
Teresa has (foolishly) gone nowhere, if it had been me I’d have had it away on my toes as soon as the distraction started, but then I wouldn’t gone along with the dubious duo to start with. The last panel is seen from approximately her position as she took a step backwards just as Tiffany attacked. She may have expected more of Tiff too.
So two things for next few strips. Teresa’s expectations of Tiff, and a suspiciously prominent mirror. How will they be used?
The poor advertisers are being squeezed for space. “Twitter:Exiern” is only four lines now, so why not cut it down to zero? Cut “Exiern chat” from 600 pixels tall to 300 pixels tall, and cut the Exiern strip itself from 1000 pixels tall to 500 pixels tall, and you can get at least three more ads in. The advertisers expect the preferential treatment that they’re paying for!
GrimGhost – Unfortunately the comic isn’t making enough to support itself so the current ads are a necessary…distraction. I’m trying hard to not interfere with the stuff people come here to enjoy/use, so have no fear of a smaller comic or chat. When I first added the new ad space the Twitter feed didn’t change size…not sure what happened to it, honestly.
Once I figure out a way to get some better income I’d love to streamline the homepage and get Exiern.com much more svelt…but for now we’ll have to deal with the clutter. ๐
No apologies necessary – it’s stuff I need to know! And snarky is fun to read…I don’t take it personally. No worries! ๐ I AM trying to find ways to help the website, and things are going to get moved around and adjusted – I WANT to know what people think. I really do appreciate your comments.
I think Drowemos and I are simultaneously making edits to the website…we’ll try to coordinate to avoid these glitches. Twitter should be visible now…we’re trying to keep it that way. ๐
@M, the ads pay the comic creators so they can keep making the comic. Please, turn of your ad blocker when you read comics, it makes a huge, huge difference. In at least one case (Dreamlands), asking the readers to shut off their ad blockers made the site revenue literally quadruple overnight.
I think that any comic you enjoy is worth supporting by such a simple act.
Well, a bit more then a slap is required of course, heck, use a chair. Other then that this “woman warriors” and such is just a fantasy thing anyway so nothing strange here. It would be good if in the end this “Tiffany” would get rid of that silly curse altogether and become who he was, a strong male barbarian warrior. Like it should be.
What’s with the tousle-haired priest? His hair is gray in the first panel, then becomes blue in the second, and is gray again in the fifth panel.
As for Tiff, something needs to be said: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Rage, Tiff, Rage! If the curse has taken her this far down the girly path, only anger can get her back. Hopefully, Theresa can say something to p!!s her off!
@Khamya, no, shan’t. I despise advertising and will not turn off my blockers. I do support comics, when I can, buy buying merch, and in the case of Exiern being a paying member, before the paypal balls-up. I will, when feeling rich enough, donate, but I won’t be advertised at for anyone.
Be a Producer!ย Your name/title with an optional SFW hyperlink will be posted prominently HEREย following the close of the month! You’ll also receive monthly mailings from Exiern’s author, Scott T. Hicken!
Slap fight!!!! No?
Hopefully Teresa realizes what’s happening and “goads” Tiffany back into her “Power” mode
Huh. So Tiffany’s curse makes her unconsciously act as her perception of a woman as well as looking like it? That’s interesting. 0.o
Tiffany has become a little girl, no longer a badass barbarian. Sadness ensues.

Somebody hand the barbarian a can of spinach, STAT!
Why does Tiff come out of nowhere? And where the hell did Thomas/Teresa go?

That’s the scariest thing that ever happened in this comic so far.

@GrimGhost Ads? What ads? I think you need to install adblock and noscript and stop kowtowing to your capitalist overlords.
Okay, and now the Twitter feed is big again, and I haven’t touched it…
If this was a temporary glitch, then I recant, and apologize for, my snarky post of a few hours ago.

hey guys did any one else get the kelloggs rice crispys ad tag line in the previous page?
Not me, I had to have Exiern Chat point it out to me.
Change of subject: “Twitter:Exiern” has disappeared completely. ๐
