Tiff really does have it bad for Denver if her reaction to him siding with her arch-rival is so emphatic. She’ll feel better after a good cry though.
Trouble is Teresa is kinda right, she’s not disliked Tiff. She’s been a snob, not an a!!!!!e, and she needs to work on her people skills and prejudices. Same could be said of Tiffany though.
I do not completely disagree LookBeyond But Teresa out and out said that Tiff a good hero despite Her Race. That like saying your one of few good blacks despite your aggressive Jungle Nature or Wow your really honest for Jew that must be hard ! The fact she’s serious makes it worse. She kind of a female blond bombshell Archie Bunker.
Tiff never acted racist, she had Odd ideas and expectations about other cultures but not really racist Views.
No I think what’s bothering her is the fact that Teresa taken to her New female form like duck to water and Tiff sees in Teresa her own future. And she scared of the fact that she starting to like Guys as a Girl. Making her come of Homophobic.
Well, keep in mind this is medieval fantasy setting, and one of the hallmarks of that kind of time-frame is “be fruitful and multiply.” Typha-Knee has already expressed hallmark views of this setting, which are perfectly understandable when survival is the key issue:
-Desire for a large family / lots of kids (though I’m pretty sure she meant as the father)
-Frank assessment of wealth (comfort, food, safety)
-[male] Deviancy is questionable at best (how many perv-putdowns?)
-Every “that sounded weird coming out of my mouth”
I wouldn’t so much say ‘homophobic’ as wanting to be ‘back to normal’, which for Typh means getting back on track of becoming a wealthy guy having a large family. For a strong-willed, independent barbarian the thought of submitting to an undesired and unnatural fate, regardless of happy outcomes it may bring, is pretty much antithesis.
On that subject: haven’t commented yet, but great characters all around and storytelling elements throughout. Engaging, funny, dramatic, believable. Went from first to last in one sitting and have exiern bookmarked in my daily-check folder =)
LookBeyond: “Tiff really does have it bad for Denver if her reaction to him siding with her arch-rival is so emphatic. She’ll feel better after a good cry though.”
If she could read these comments, she’d kill you. 😀
I think you’re all giving Teresa too much credit. A woman doesn’t have a sword-and-sorcery slapfight with another woman and come out of it without some bad feelings – only men do that. Women carry grudges.
Teresa isn’t being nice because she likes Tiff – she’s being nice because DENVER IS THERE. It’s a classic ‘wounded party’ scenario. She clearly knows Tiff is jealous of her attentions to Denver, so she’s acting innocent to earn his sympathy. And succeeding brilliantly, I might add.
You never read a history book, if you say man do not carry grudges… we got wars because of bankett words and falls of empires because of a wrong word in a letter to an important state figure.
Checked the Archive, Teresa threw the first “Punch” in the fight. So Denver was wrong and that’s why Tiff is pissed. Teresa also insulted Tiffany first, though not intentionally.
Good to know that I must carry a grudge over every little slight, and never let anything go. I’ve obviously been doing that one wrong my entire life
Technically the first physical blow is Tiff prodding Teresa in the chest, that never ends well. Plus the unsupported accusation of paedophilia. Basically it was two egotists that didn’t know when to stop. Both as bad as each other, although Teresa actually let it go and was prepared to accept her punishment (being stripped naked http://www.exiern.com/?p=837 ) with good grace. Tiff just wouldn’t let it go though. I’m sorry, but racist snob is in the right, the violent, insecure, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, jerkass just wouldn’t let it go. Although Teresa’s apology later did not help (although kudos for her actually being prepared to apologise though).
The other priest also accused teresa of pedophilia. It’s also an old priest joke.
Considering she’s a barbarian, Tiff probably doesn’t have a problem with gays, it’s just Teresa she has a problem with and Teresa is a bitch.
Teresa hasn’t let it go either anyway, so don’t go draco in leather pants about it. She’s clearly still playing and angle. Like the King said, it’s politics.
Another big problem here is that Tiff was a male barbarian, while Teresa was a male cleric. Tiff grew up in the wild, learning to use weapons and hit things, while Teresa grew up in the city, learning to be subtle and manipulate people. This means Teresa has all the right experience and ‘weaponry’ for fighting this sort of political, emotional battle (fighting like a girl?), while Tiff is, basically, unarmed and defenseless. Until, of course, she finds a weapon or hits someone. Which, in this situation, would only estrange her further from Denver. What Tiff really needs right now is someone who knows the court, knows subtlety, and whom she can trust. She needs… Peonie.
heh, I’m with Tiff. T is up to something…I’d trust “her” as far as a I could through her if she were chained to a mountain. hmph, manipulating strumpet.
@deanatay: Wait, Peonie’s subtle? I guess compared to our resident barbarian. She’s also not trustworthy at the moment. Granted, Tiff doesn’t know that at the moment but still.
Abeo: I didn’t say Peonie _was_ subtle, just that she _knows_ subtlety – she did grow up around these people. She can fake it, when she wants to. And, she might be able to translate into barbarian-think.
And, I think Peonie’s more trustworthy than you think – and her father far more subtle than you’re guessing. Her father stated the situation quite clearly – he only needs a bride (and an heir) because his daughter refuses to be a good princess and marry. So, he puts her in a conscience trap – manipulate and, essentially, betray her best friend, or accept her responsibilities as a princess. I think I know what she’ll choose.

Wow, Teresa’s becoming really good at this whole “being a woman” business.
I wonder if they’d get along better if Teresa’d punched Tiff instead of blasting her with magic?
Oooh…A freudian slip? Tiff letting Denver know exactly what she wants from him?
Actually, looking through past pages, it was Theresa who started the conflict by insulting Tiffany. She also used magic to blow Tiffany several feet.
So yeah, Denver is kind of a douche to say that.

Teresa is a racist, and Tiff is a sexist, together they fight crime, Thursday 8pm (central) only on Fox…sorry.
But yeah. Teresa was racist towards Tiff, but Tiff was just as obnoxiously offensive in sexist (and sexuality) terms towards Teresa.
I think you’re all giving Teresa too much credit. A woman doesn’t have a sword-and-sorcery slapfight with another woman and come out of it without some bad feelings – only men do that. Women carry grudges.

Not to mention the fact that the darn monk should be finding a way to fix Typhanee

@Elfguy. No, “F!!k you” is a universal insult.
@LookBeyond: Except snobs are by definition a!!!!!!s. Calling someone a snob is an insult for a reason.
Anyway, Teresa has always shown bigotry over tiff’s barbarian heritage, so it’s clear she’s just acting nice infront of the king.
@LookBeyond
Except Tiff isn’t homophobic or Transphobic.
