Wait…..Starlight, really, Tiffany Starlight? Oh god I wish Faden was still here. The King is smooth though, I like him. If Tiff doesn’t want him I’ll take him.
Incidentally why is the King’s title “the First”? Monarch’s only get a “first” added retroactively when a second appears later. Even if the heir that is to be the second has the same name the monarch that is to be the first doesn’t get the first added until after the heir ascends the throne and becomes the second…
Except for James the First of the United Kingdom, but that is because he was already the Sixth of Scotland before uniting the crowns of Scotland and England and England hadn’t had a James before, so he became James the Sixth and First.
And another thing, Kings (and Queens) are Majesty’s not Highnesses. Peonie would be Royal Highness, but the King would be His Royal Majesty (and Tiffany would be Her Royal Majesty if she marries him, and if the conquer an empire then they become Imperial Majesties).
Peonie is clever… She really managed to handle that in a very smooth way…!
Maybe the rules for royal titles are different in th Grand Illuminary Alliance than in the real world 🙂
If someone can be number I just because he is also # VI then maybe in a fantasy setting someone can be number I just because he is the first king with that name after a long line of other kings bearing the same name?
Well, I was WAY off yesterday. I figured Urtica already had a consort for the festivities, since Peonie and Tiffany didn’t seem to have arrived more than a few weeks before them.
Jarwy, she said that when trying to think of a plan to escape the songwitch, IIRC. Very nice catch!
I hadn’t noticed until now how bizarrely similar Tiffany’s “protector” garb is to Urtica’s outfit.
Not necessarily LookBeyond. Some countries monarchs are accounted the “first of that name” if there has not been a monarch before them with their name. Also this is Drowemos’ story, he can call them highness, majesty or googleplex.
Yep, monarchies, titles, and style of naming differ per country. Although you’re spot on for the British Isles! Besides, if this was medieval Britain, she’d be burned for wearing that dress. Naked shoulders! *le gasp!* 😛
I like the idea of monarchs being referred to as googleplex….that is going to be my title when I take over the world. Just as soon as I’ve finished doing the laundry.
At first, I questioned the King’s plan about getting Tiffany to accept the change, thinking Tiffany would never accept it. But now, with further developments, I’m beginning to change my mind. If the King, who Tiffany already respects thanks to the sucker punch, continues to treat her with respect and does not speak down to her or condescendingly, confides in her as a bit of an insider, and offers his help without an obvious quid pro quo, she will come to trust, even like him, which, under the right circumstances, could lead to more. Her potential relationship with Denver is temporary, at best, if the suspicion about his true nature is correct, and she knows that. If Peonie offers to trade teaching Tiffany to behave more like a woman for Tiffany to teach Peonie to to behave more like a warrior, thereby relieving Tiffany of the job of Protector and giving Peonie the skills she needs to go adventuring on her own without the protection of a squad of troops, Tiffany might accept the situation until it becomes second nature. She can’t return to the North as she is because Northerners seem to treat their woman as chattel, even more than Southerners. If she can’t manage to get back to being a man, life as a queen could be her second best option and she could be persuaded to willingly accept it, if everybody is careful about it. Of course, all hell is about to break loose at the banquet so the carefully created plans are soon to be out the window.
The way it reads to me is the 1st is a rank not a title. He is ranked 1st among the illuminary alliance. Others may be ranked 2nd, 3rd etc. At least that is how it reads to me.
Wait, haven’t all those that have tried to become “Fuhrer of ze World” died before taking office?
Now, “King of the World” has enough frauds caming the title that fate seams to have trouble finding the true one.
@Jarwy: She said that not long before fighting the gel monster about the witch. She thought ‘What would Tiffany do?’ then ‘What would I do?’ and her plan involved flashing the witch. Then she made that comment.
Perhaps King Urtica the First is suggestive that the king previously had a male heir but then this theoretical Urtica the Second met something to the effect of his unfortunate end somewhere along the line.
That would explain the need for clarification in the King’s official title.
You mean no one (especially Tiffany) doesn’t smell a set up from the fact that the king (i.e., Mr. Most Eligible Bachelor in the kingdom) DIDN’T already have an escort?
@Deof That is exactly why he wouldn’t have an escort.
It might make some poor gal think she has a chance, when he has no real interest. Also, anyone on his arm is going to be the target of all the other women in the room, but since Tiff is a barbarian, she’d be a target anyway.
Also, since Tiff is the guest of honor, having her be escorted by the actual lord of the place is about the most honor they can give.
Of course, she could have chosen to go stag – she’s a barbarian, why not set her own standards? But she chose to go with the status quo, so the king has his chance…
Be a Producer! Your name/title with an optional SFW hyperlink will be posted prominently HERE following the close of the month! You’ll also receive monthly mailings from Exiern’s author, Scott T. Hicken!
It’s good to be the king.
I’m pretty sure Peony has said that (in the last panel) before, but I can’t recall in which strip.

Chuckled at Starlight.

TYphan-Knee’s last name is STARLIGHT!!!!! For the traditional fictional barbarians Starlight is a tame name.
I truly feel sorry for TYphan-Knee taken out of his/her element and thrown into… politics (as the token woman no less).
All Hail LookBeyond the Googleplex! May he rule wisely and with an economically stable number of mass murders!
OneAndLonely, you got the syntax all wrong, it’s “His Googleplex, LookBeyond the 1st, Fuhrer of ze World!”
Wait, haven’t all those that have tried to become “Fuhrer of ze World” died before taking office?

peonie, you wouldn’t be you with a non-slutty plan. Not that you are slutty, far from it, but I love how you think.
