May I just say, Peonie’s chest looks particularly scrumptious in Panel 2?
Tiffany’s sideways glance (last panel) — this a very feminine thing to do. Against her wishes, kicking and screaming, Tiffany is being lured to the Pink Side.
Panel 3, for the artist, good news and bad news. Good news — Peonie’s small, amused smile is well drawn. Bad news — PP’s eyes are brown, not blue.
Would someone who plays chess explain what PP means by her line, “Queen to king’s rook four”? Obviously it’s an answer to Tiff’s “I ain’t going to be your father’s pawn” comment. Or is PP demonstrating that she can speak gobbledygook to Tiff, and Tiff won’t notice?
Wonder what Teresa will say when she sees Tiffany all dolled up?
Moving a Queen to an opponents rear row, soon to make a “killing”.
I don’t know if I would take that guarding job. After what they have already gone threw I would ask for more.
That is some “rad” armor, I personally don’t think he/she needs it, hasn’t needed it before, or is this some foreshadowing? hmmmmmmmm….
And I think I am going to try to make some armor like you have done for the Kings guards, I hope you don’t mind.
she is commenting that, even though she claims to not like what is happening and listening to the king, she is acting exactly as the king wants. It is also interesting to note that the queen is the only known female piece on a chess board, and it is also the most dangerous.
As for ‘Resa, I think she’ll comment on even though she’s dressed up, she’s still a stupid barbarian… or that, dressed right, even a barbarian can look civilized.
In the long run, I’m more concerned for Tiff… About half of the luminary population has seen her naked, and it might make for some awkward situations…
Naroji – “In the long run, I’m more concerned for Tiff… About half of the luminary population has seen her naked, and it might make for some awkward situations…”
A good point, but if I was a regular person I wouldn’t mess with a barbarian I’ve seen naked and make them feel uncomfortable if I was pretty sure that they’d be perfectly comfortable slaughtering me…
Um, I play chess, and naroji’s explanation doesn’t cut it. The shortest possible game of chess is called fool’s mate, as is this strip. The final move is either queen to king’s rook 4, or queen to king’s rook 5, depending on how you number the board. Peonie is saying that whatever Tiffany may believe, the game is already over, Tiffany lost when she asked for the money instead of nothing.
If anyone’s interested, the fool’s mate game goes like this:
1w) white moves the pawn in front of the bishop next to the king, the king’s bishop, up.
1b) black moves the pawn in front of the king up.
2w) white moves the pawn in front of the king’s knight up two squares.
2b) black moves the queen to the only square it can get to in front of the king’s rook, checkmate.
@jayessell – Notice how there is no “lesser” treasure in here, no copper, no silver, it’s all the high end stuff. This is not the official treasury, this would be the kings personal glory room. After a long day of kinging he can come in here, strip nekked and swim/bathe in his money. there’s nothing quite like the feel of gold on bare flesh or so I hear anyway. As for the sword, well what’s life, or swimming, with out a little risk
looks to me like someone isn’t worried anyone can enter there and steal the coins. or even if they do get in. no one might be able to come out of there and escape some time in prison.
Peonie’s left breast looks like it’s trying for a wardrobe malfunction in the second panel.
Both faces look exquisitely drawn in the last panel! Keep up the good work!
Thank you to Naroji and Argrus for your explinations!
Queens to Kings rook for is the final move that gives “CheckMate” in a fool’s mate (title of the comic) the fastest possible check mate in chess. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fool's_mate.
Yuck. Not funny to use “ain’t” with “going”… Sounds…weird. It was weird in previous pages when you mixed it with words over two syllables. A more correct form (ironically) would be “ain’t gonna”. Personally, I find it funny to have barbarian who is so articulate.
Just because they are not ‘civilized’ doesn’t make them un-cultured, same as being ‘civilized’ doesn’t make one automatically better (so often, the so-called ‘barbarians’ are more respectful/honourable than someone who is ‘civilized’)

@GrimGhost:
As the title says, it’s the final move of a – the quickest way to win a game.
Could someone knowlegable about role playing games comment on the room?
They just leave loose coins around a chest?
What’s a sword doing there?
And now… a Barbarian in that room!
I wonder if that uniform has pockets.
Oops.
Missed a strip.
But still…
‘Shelves’ haven’t been invented there yet?

it’s either that or the drawer of the comic didn’t want to give the background a busy look. Which might(or will) happen when shelves are added.
… I’m a guy and I want to try on that armor.

i wonder how long that armor will last for
@ mike.
Knowing TYphan-Knee and how rough she’s on the equipment. That armor won’t be pretty for long.
