In this regard Tiff is in the wrong, but whats her/ his face there was being a condescending jack-a!s before, which isn’t a good idea with people who generally solve disputes with their fists.
“Aye Ragnar, ye beat me down, I guess ye have a point after all.”
Why is Tiffany in the wrong? Isn’t part of the backstory for Exiern that this priestly order was doing nasty things to people? (Or at least, to northerners? I forget the details.) If I came face-to-face with a sexually suspect Spanish Inquisitor, I wouldn’t be respectful in my language either.
Really, Tiffany is kinda in the right. Thomas/Theresa fired first when it came to insulting her. It’s actually a very common thing among the religious folks. You go after their reputation, they bring down the wrath on ya.
Well, that’s the thing; this church did ‘mean things’ to *NORTHERNERS* (I’m guessing the same sort of ‘evangelism’ that European priests did to Amer-indians – specifics are up to Drow).
But here’s the rub: Arch is NOT ‘the North’ – to carry on with the analogy, ‘Teresa’ is/was a Jesuit priest, Tiffany is/was a Sioux brave, Peonie is the daughter of King Carlos I of Spain, and they just returned to Seville. Tiff is the odd one out here – everyone else LIKES the priests.
…and even if they DID know about how the priesthood ‘re-educated’ the ‘godless savages’ of the North, they probably would *still* take Teresa’s side, not Tiffany’s.
Keep in mind that Tiffany defeated and/or survived that Dark Lord guy several times now (whoever he is), and the Dark Lord is vastly more powerful than this chick. Unless someone shows up to stop the fight midway, Tiffany is probably going to win.
This is assuming, of course, that the author doesn’t do something completely off-the-wall….
I love Teresa’s insult, calling Tiffany a “backwater fizz-brained bonesucker.” Much more imaginative of the writer than just having her say “moron barbarian.”
As for why Tiffany is in the wrong, I am saying that from two viewpoints, of which I am certain Tiffany would not share. From Tiffany’s viewpoint she feels justified – of course, everyone justifies their own actions, so that isn’t saying much.
My first is that its a modern viewpoint from this world, not from Exiern.
The second is that nothing is ever black and white in the real world (and not really in Exiern either), but for Tiffany things are that simple.
Tiffany is making three judgements that aren’t necessarily correct.
The first is that she has declared Teresa a pervert. Teresa has taken to the body change well which to someone like Tiffany would mean that the person was a homosexual/ transvestite in the first place. For this type of world that would be viewed very badly. Not to mean there aren’t any around – historically there were the same ratio then as there is now, about 1 in 10 – but you kept it a secret. As long as nothing went beyond the occasional whisper, all was well. Of course Tiffany’s own conflict over the body change and her own changing feelings is projected into this judgement as well. Of course there is no proof that Teresa was anything of the sort, she just may be very adaptable. And if she was, so what? of course that last is a modern view.
Second she assumes Teresa was a pedophile as well. This is an extension from the first. Its an assumption people make today as well. If you are gay, then you must also molest children. Although statistically more pedophiles molest girls than boys, but that is beside the point. Unless I missed something, there was not even a hint that Teresa was ever doing anything of the sort. Tiffany is just pulling that out of her shapely a!s.
And finally there is the assumption that because she is a priest of this church, she must be a creep. That too is a fairly common attitude even today. Look at the mass hysteria over Muslims (i.e. some Muslims are terrorists so… all Muslims are Terrorists! Or as one twit put it – all terrorists are Muslims, which must be news to Oklahoma and Ireland). And of course closer to this topic, the Catholic Church. Catholic priests have abused children, therefore ALL Catholic priests abuse children! Simple guilt by association. Some people in group X are bad, therefore all in group X are bad. Its a human judgement to make, but that doesn’t mean its right. Particularly as up until now Teresa had been a pretty decent person – except for the sin of cozying up to Tadpole (which of course is the REAL sin here).
So as I said, my view is based on a modern position outside of that environment, not from someone in that environment. And from that view, Tiffany has made three judgements that are not necessarily correct. And to add to it, they are merely excused to cover the real reason that Tiffany is angry, that she is attracted to Tadpole, while at the same time is not completely comfortable with it, and Teresa adapts easily to the change and proceeds to make time with Tadpole while Tiffany would like to keep him on a string until she figures out what the hell to do.
And at any rate, it doesn’t change that Teresa was being condescending, and really should know better than to yank the chain of someone who _prefers_ to resolve problems with violence.
BTW – I have no interest in a discussion of real world politics or society, I am merely using RL examples to illutrate my point.
I want to see her recover and tell the princess that she has two minutes to talk to that priestess before I mix her bones with the cement I will make from her temple. And I am not so good at counting.
@Eric Not all Muslims are terrorists true but over 60% of the Koran, the central doctrine of the Muslim faith, deals with Jihad and the practices that support terrorism. Even the Muslims that do not practice terrorism believe in the core values that make terrorism possible. I’m thankful they are looking beyond those values and trying to reform the faith, but it has a long way to go before it can be considered a peaceful religion. Don’t forget that historically it was founded by a Robber Baron in Medea who used these teachings to justify his raiding the caravans that passed by. This is a matter of historical record for anyone that wants to look it up. I hardly think it qualifies as one of your examples. Of course the other religions you mention have similar histories, none of them are blameless.
My read on Brother Thomas is this: He never has been a sexual deviant and Tiffany is unjust in calling him one. Further, he is heterosexual. Note that Tiffany was a hetero male before her change and is now a hetero female after her conversion.
In truth, Brother Thomas had always been VERY strait-laced: he was living, but not enjoying that fact. Wether its a concious decision or not, he has taken his conversion as an opportunity to explore the more pleasant aspects of being a human.
Well the northerners are all about the whole crush your enemies(and if you can’t find some raid a random southern village for fun), see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women(and then kidnap some of them and breed little half barbarians weather she wanted to or more likely not) so…

WHOA!!!
Now That Was One Powerful Word.
If those gray shards behind Tiffany are pieces of cloth, I think “Sir” is about to get his wish — body parts showing.
Okay biotch! Its on now!

ACK! Wall of Text. Sorry ’bout that.
She most have felt in danger when tiff touch her so she retaliate immediately.
I want to see her recover and tell the princess that she has two minutes to talk to that priestess before I mix her bones with the cement I will make from her temple. And I am not so good at counting.
No eric, the pedophile comment came from because he’s a priest, not because he might be gay.
And He/She was being flirty. Tiff is in the right and she wasn’t the that made the racist insult.
Also, earlier, some of the transformed brothers suggested that Teresa/Thomas was a suspected pedophile.
The brothers were not clear, they never actually said that. It was Tiff who suggested pedophilia.
