wait… what? i must need to re-read the comic or something. i dont remember this kid at ALL, and i thouight Denver was off transforming into an adult dragon or something o.0 (or am i thinking of someone else?)
Yes Denver is slowly developing into his adult form. Which happens to be a Dragon. But that takes time. Faden said he has a year or two before he changes. You can see that here:

The boy was just a hapless victim of Faden’s rampage as you can see from the links above. As part of my mercurial story telling method we are going to learn a bit more about him.

Yep, he’s the kid who ran up to a wounded Faden on the beach, asked if he needed “a hand’ and Faden took it, literally.
