well a tadpole starts harmless, then it hits a certain age grows legs and teeth and wings(to crawl out of the water by flapping) and starts spitting fire and eating the minnows it grew up thinking it was.
The locket she got from the ‘monster’ in the previous comics belonged to Denver’s sister, who was, in fact, the monster. The monster is a partially grown up dragon.
Dragons start out looking like humans, have a transitional humanoid dragon phase (like puberty) where they lose their senses, and then turn into the kind of dragons seen previously.”

[Actually, I was lost the first reading of this comic too. It only made sense to me later. But apparently it was supposed to be obvious from this point… so I guess I’m just a Northerner.]
